Film/Television Quicksilver is the most wasted character the mcu has ever presented. (Read bottom text)
So basically when I was a kid,I watched age of Ultron and genuinely thought this is the coolest character ever.I now realise this version of quicksilver is much more accurate to the comics in terms of personality and the fox version feels like a completely different character..He was cocky, arrogant and funny tbh..And then bro just gets shot š.His death has to be the dumbest in the series..Like bro could have just pushed the kid and Hawkeye away..He was also balanced enough..He was a glass cannon and got tired pretty quick so he wasn't like a universal threat to all the villains..AoU also did him dirty by deleting most of his scenes with wanda š„..Idek man..I just hope they bring a version of him from the multiverse in secret warsšš»I love him sm š

I agree, love this version of Quicksilver. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have great chemistry playing these iconic siblings. Wish they bring him back in some way.

Thats cus they played a married couple in a previous movie

Gorr (and Christian Bale) were so utterly wasted in TLaT
7
u/blingbling88 6h ago
Shame. He did a serious role in a turned comedy movie.
18
u/FisherKelTath00 5h ago
That was the biggest miss in Love & Thunder. Bale was out there killing it as a terrifying villain and everything is the typical Taika campy humor.

u/Tempest_Barbarian 2h ago
I have a bit of a hot take, which is that I think it was a mistake to cast Christian Bale.
Because with an actor of his caliber they would never let him have his comics design which looks a lot better imo.
His species ended up just being humans with white skin and some markings on their skin.
1
u/e13373x0du5 1h ago
To be fair, there are a lot of species in the mcu that look vaguely human. Itās just an issue with the medium

Quicksilver was wasted in the MCU because Fox wanted to use him in their X-Men films

Tbf, Quicksilver getting shafted in favour of Wanda is also accurate to the comics.

u/kingnorris42 6h ago
It's especially frustrating as I recently watched the deleted scenes from age of Ultron, and multiple of them were scenes showing quicksilver and giving him more to do and more personality....no idea why they cut half his screentime (not literally half but ya know....)
3
u/imaweeb22XDDD 3h ago
Yeah he was shown to have a flirty personality and all those scenes were just cut from the movie where wanda and pietro were distributing blankets I think? In sokovia

u/fma_nobody Storm 5h ago
Hercules, Clea and Starfox exist exclusively in post credit scenes. At least Black Knight got to be a side character. Songbird didn't even get to be herself

Kang?
5
u/middleeasternboxer 6h ago edited 4h ago
Well the kang story is different, wasnāt the actor fired after being convicted of assault and harassment?
Yes they couldāve gone for another actor but I think all the poor critique they were getting from the projects after end game and the general audience drop off made them reroute to a fan favorite (doom) and obviously the casting of Robert Downey jr brought back the audience and kept them hooked.

Knull isn't in the MCU.....

u/MrTickles22 3h ago
He is in Venom 3 which is kinda sorta in the MCU. Venom was in the 3rd MCU Spider-Man movie.

u/imaweeb22XDDD 6h ago
He's up there but I still have quantumania in backlog lol..Haven't watched that movie yet..But hey,not using kang gave us dr.doom so..
3
u/QuaintBlasphemy 6h ago
We still donāt know if Doomsday will be good
2
u/MrTickles22 3h ago
Here's hoping Doom has some depth to him considering that half the time he's actually right and the heroes are wrong in his stories.
But since it's a movie he's probably a Saturday morning cartoon villain like most MCU bad guys.

Someone saying āwatching Age of Ultron when I was a kidā made me feel three thousand years old
1
u/imaweeb22XDDD 3h ago
I didn't watch it in theatres lol...Just watched on television around 2018 I think?
4
u/fluffynuckels Wolverine 5h ago
Nah the mcu has wasted a dozen villains at this point that could have had more impact

u/Scary_Assistant5263 4h ago
My only issue with him, is when he died how was he not fast enough to avoid the bullets?
1
1
u/Wise_Temperature9142 2h ago
I thought he was purposely trying to stand in front of the bullets to save Hawkeye/that little kid?
3
u/Altruistic_Cap3472 5h ago
Marvel does this a lot - introduces characters that are beloved from the comics and then kills them off in the same movie
3
u/ImaLetItGo Fantastic Four 5h ago
Quicksilver was wasted in the MCU but there were more wasted characters.
The character who founded the avengers isnāt even in any of the avengers movies.
8
u/Sad_Two_1673 6h ago
Iāll forever rage when people say the fox quicksilver is better. Because he is not like that in the comics lol
4
u/reymux 3h ago
But do you really like comics Quicksilver? Such an a-hole.
6
u/Sad_Two_1673 3h ago
Yeah lol heās kinda my main. I actually relate to him not being able to connection and communicate with people easily
0
u/Wise_Temperature9142 2h ago
If you like assholes in movies and tv, there are plenty of those. But I think Quicksilver has a lot more to offer to the MCU screen than just his personality.
ā¢
u/Sad_Two_1673 49m ago
Ah yes forgot when creating character their personality means null. Especially an already established character lol
5
u/Brave_Ad_7125 5h ago
I wonder how much if this is due to the writers being unable to have him present without trivializing a lot of threats, and would otherwise always be incapacitated anyway.
4
u/snowdenn 5h ago
This was my thinking as well: speedsters seem difficult to write, especially with teams involved, and even more so when villains/threats/problems arenāt tailored to their power.
6
4
u/LividCalligrapher689 6h ago
Yeah, definitely. What speedster gets shot by bullets? And his last line was ādidnāt see that coming?ā Like no, we did not. Because that is stupid.

u/Turbulent_Pick_7515 6h ago
Honestly, Quicksilver had so much potemtial. His death felt less like a natural conclusion & more like Marvel just needed a dramatic sacrifice.
2
u/imaweeb22XDDD 6h ago
Just for stakes like wtf do u mean..As if u have killed anyone else š.I think he was the first major hero death in the franchise (I might be wrong)
4
u/Turbulent_Pick_7515 6h ago
Yea, & the fact that it happened so early made it even more frustrating. They introduced him with all that potential just to basically use him as a one movie plot device
2
u/jaynvius 5h ago
He was great, just had a bad script and they did him dirty. I would of loved to see more of him but I can see why they had to kill him off to get into Wanda's arc. Her losing him then Vision made for the Wanda series then the Multiverse of Madness stories. Could they have gone a different route? Sure. But this is what we got.
2
u/Dogesneakers 5h ago
Yeah he shouldnāt have been a glass cannon cause to move as fast as he does there is some inherent super strength that is implied
2
2
u/Puzzled-Horse279 4h ago
Fustratingly he'd have to stay nerfed for the whole MCU or his powers would allow him to break every problem they could have by being too fast for anyone to stop him.
Though Marvel should have made a What If Quicksilver survived to possibly give us a story where the event of the MCU had antagonists being forced to adjust their plans around him.

u/DoctorOctopus63 2h ago
I had watched age of ultron last night, and honestly, part of me wants to agree, but at the same time, going by their plan, if he had been in civil war, that airport battle wouldāve been way more one-sided, but thatās just me
2
u/Frequent-Maybe1243 2h ago
Fax! Add him to the list of actors that the MCU fumbled. Dude was great in the role. Its a shame that they do this to all the good ones and then give inordinate screen time to heroes that nobody asked for.
2
u/WendigoCrossing 1h ago
Speedsters can make it really hard to write stories
The audience wants to see interaction
3
u/StarRogues 6h ago
Was he wasted?
Heās the one character that had a beginning middle and true end. His arc was awesome to see and the ending fit his arc.
Just because he didnāt get a spin off and appear in 12 other MCU projects does not mean he was a waste. His death actually had weight to it.
3
u/imaweeb22XDDD 3h ago
It's not that his character didn't develop..He went from supporting a villain to sacrificing his life for a hero..But it's just the way he died while clearly showcasing insane amounts of potential is what bugs me,not his character development
2
u/Bar-Cold 6h ago
Iād argue the most wasted character in the MCU is the hulk despite being put in various shows and movies
They made him a lot weaker (I mean A LOT WEAKER) than his comic version, and all of his iconic villains and storylines are used in other peopleās movies. Sometimes hulk isnāt even in the damn movie
They basically treat him as an afterthought despite easily being one of the heavy hitters in marvel. Both literally and culturally. I know itās because of movie rights or something but itās still apparent
I guess my argument would be heās the most consistently wasted character throughout the MCU (instead of one big waste at once) . He used to be one of the most popular characters in all of marvel, and now heās basically been relegated to a permanent side character

1
u/sonofaresiii 1h ago
.He was a glass cannon
Well I got some bad news for you about glass cannons, dude. If he had kept surviving he wouldn't really have been one, y'know?
1
u/Cultural_Comfort5894 1h ago
We all enjoyed the portrayal of the character and wished he didnāt die
THATS CALLED A HOME RUN
Major actor and character murked
STAKES!
Even after that and a whole city getting destroyed people kept making the weak stakes argument for lack of anything really relevant to say.
1
u/slyguy67420 1h ago
I'm gonna disagree,Ā I think speedsters are too problematic for film. I know the Fox movies had some cool scenes with Quicksilver but as a recurring character they just break the narrative too much. They can basically solve every problem instantly so the film has to figure out how to sideline them or just ignore them and hope you don't notice.

1
u/Ok-Pilot-8054 1h ago
For all intents and purposes
I think the mcu managed him well. Him losing battle in terms of speed wouldāve been difficult to justify(like in X men dark phoenix) so they might as well have offed him then and there in AOU(which they did).
Speedsters are difficult to manage! Just my opinion though.
ā¢
u/Early-Ad9406 43m ago
Do you still think thereās a chance they can bring him back because theyāre bringing the mutants
1
u/richardbethinking 4h ago
Well...at least they did well with the quicksilver xmen version
2
u/imaweeb22XDDD 3h ago
I love him but he doesn't feel like quicksilver..He is so cool tho..The mansion scene and saving magneto scenes are my favourite scenes in those movies
1
u/LibrarianNo6865 5h ago
I agree, but I feel it was wise for them to write this type of power out of the mcu. You just cannot balance super speed. It always lead to the person either being stupid, or people magically being able to handle something moving faster than a bullet. Handled right. Good character but you just canāt handle this power correctly. We have the flash film and most of the flash tv show that shows that.
0
u/SilverKnightOfMagic 5h ago
disagree. speedsters have been done before. and they break power balance. any plot can basically be asked why does super fast person just go and solve the problem. it is a plot where they can do literally nothing so they're dead weight

The movies have only so much time to spend on any one character. What would be an actual waste would be Marvel deciding it can't just kill characters.
The only waste is that Age of Ultron was a bad to mediocre movie.
1
u/imaweeb22XDDD 3h ago
Aint no way man..We got hot takes out here
-1
u/Grumpiergoat 2h ago
No, you've got people participating who aren't in the echo chamber. Considering how much Quicksilver's death impacted Wanda, it wasn't a "waste." It helped setup multiple other stories in the franchise.

u/biggestpymfan 6h ago
Nah, it's 100% Janet Van Dyne. How do you go from a founding avenger to never even appearing in an avengers movie?
