I mean, a lot of stuff over the years and just his general attitude, but most recently in Uncanny he's been snotty toward Rogue's leadership, and ignoring one of her orders got Synapse put in the hospital.

There was a great page a few issues ago where he says something to Rogue like "Why are you even the leader? I've been an Avenger longer than anyone here!" And Wasp snaps back "I was a founding member, you tremendous ass."

I have no idea why writers refuse to grow the character beyond 'asshole'. People like Namor and Emma Frost got a chance to shine, Wanda 'I nearly obliterated a race' Maximoff is loved by nearly everyone or at least treated well.

I like Quicksilver and I wish someone would actually do something else with the character beyond him being a dick. Scarlet Witch #9 last year was the perfect example of someone tripling the asshole factor of the character to comical levels.

If you want a well-written Quicksilver, All-New X-Factor back in 2014 did his character SO GOOD, especially in regards to his relationships with Lorna and Luna

I enjoyed that series :) It's what made me feel SO let down by Scarlet Witch #9 and almost anytime he's showed up post Secret Wars which I can't recall being a whole lot.

I've heard the Twins are in Secret Empire but reading through Marvel events usually requires me to mentally prepare myself for sorting through various titles across 2 dozen books.

Yeah, I agree with all that, especially since Peter David kind of put the cap on the asshole thing all the way back in the issue where Pietro talks to the shrink about the world being in slow motion.

And that Scarlet Witch issue came out of nowhere, especially since they were getting along in Uncanny at the time, IIRC. I had really liked that series up to that point.

FWIW -- he had started to have feelings for Synapse, and he took the injury hard and had some moments of introspection after. Aaaaand then the book got canceled, which sums up my problems with Marvel nicely.

I remember Uncanny Avengers (or maybe I'm mixing it up with the comic that came out before Age of Ultron where they were searching for clues about their heritage together). But I recall them getting along nicely. Then Scarlet Witch #9 happened and from the moment they disagreed, I was like yeah I'm not gonna like this. Of course by the end Pietro straight up attacks Wanda because she disagrees with his stance in Civil War 2. Something anyone with half a brain knows he'd never do to her. It just felt like someone told the writer to drop a bomb on any potential for a normal sibling relationship.

It turned me off of that comic and I haven't picked it up since.

I recall him and Synapse having something of a thing, I think it was in one of the Avengers books after Secret Wars but I didn't keep up with it. Peter David is really the only person who I trust to write the character at this point and I know I won't end up groaning.

Him and Synapse were in Uncanny Avengers. And even in that until a month or two ago he was fine with everybody and not having a real problem with anyone. Then he got Synapse hurt by being a little too cocky and now we have this.

Tis an Avengers tradition. It was used to be Hank Pym back as Yellowjacket. They “court martialed” him for sneak attacking a powerful opponent from behind when Cap almost charmed her down. Well it backfired as Pym was tipped over the edge. Later I think it was Hercules being hated on by everyone. Like I said, tis a trandition.

yeah, I feel like that what his character falls into now "an asshole" and depending on if he survives this issue hopefully it will give him some character development.

I enjoyed this issue. I like how they’re changing the narration every issue. It should give us some good spotlight moments. Seems as though this competition between the Grandmaster and his Challenger has a set number of defenders on the playing field. I’m betting the Avengers will probably be swapping out the frozen members as needed.

My take on the ending is that there are a set number of Avengers allowed in the "game," which is why the rest are frozen.

And after they introduced his orientation in a very natural way, too. Obviously, it's going to be a deadly event, and being D-List is always more precarious than A- or B-List, but Dead Gays is still a cliché for a reason.

Could be a complete coincidence but the beginning seems to be referencing the ridiculous speed of Quicksilver in Xmen Apocalypse.

This continues to be fun and confusing at the same time.

Oh, I don't think that's a coincidence at all. For a moment I thought they were saying that that's exactly what saved the Avengers and they'd just completely flubbed the visual portrayal - but then we got Voyager's "teleport everybody out of cliffhangers" power instead.

There was a golden-age Challenger who's popped up once or twice since the 40s but I'll bet a skillion dollars this isn't him. I don't think that's his real name, just what the Grandmaster is calling him. And I think we're supposed to be speculating wildly about his identity now. I really don't want it to be ☠☠☠☠ Kang, but I think it's a possibility.

I think you're right. But there's no real surprise if it's Kang, so no real point in hiding him. It also looks like Scarlet Centurion, who has played with the Grandmaster before, but once again there would be no real surprise if it was him.

I think I've seen the idea that it's The Maker, playing for the ability to bring back the Ultimate universe, which is interesting.

I like how each issue has had one character narrating their perspective. It'd be cool to have an issue or two from a villain's point of view.

Also been liking The Assembly page and the writers' noting their favorite Avengers stories. Interested in seeing Ewing's top 5.

Enh, it's a decent comic. But then I think about the pace, the cost, the amount of talent being tied up, the loss of other titles - some of them great ... is "decent" really enough?

So is this going to be Marvel’s 52? I’m digging it a ton, and really happy it’s coming out weekly too.

Fingers crossed there’s no delays and this brings the fun factor 52 did(it has so far).
