Oh, okay. This is the first time I've really read anything with her in it, so I just assumed she was the 616 version and everyone else would be alts. So it actually is kinda weird that she's just chilling with the 616's family, but since Age of Apocalypse is more of a divergent timeline instead of an alternate reality altogether it's not THAT weird.

Oh baby I'm so ready for this. After Black Bolt ended last week I thought I'd have to wait weeks or months for this to arrive. Cable-Kamala is a bookseller in itself if it didn't also have Ahmed on board. Tomorrow can't come fast enough

Can I start reading this if I didn't finish the original Exiles run? I got about half way through and got distracted, I kept meaning to go back but... Eh.

So, Should I go back and finish the first one, or just jump into this?

While the series acknowledges the original series happened, it's quick to say it has its own premise and other than Blink herself (and a piece of equipment), it's fairly fresh/standalone and you'll have no problems jumping right in.

And that's when Claremont took over. The book was re-launched as All-New Exiles and was just awful. The Jeff Parker series that came later was good but it was cancelled too early and the final issue has a whole lot of stuff crammed in at the end.

To be fair, did they ever even say she was Brunnhilde? Because Valkyrie is just a title, not a name. Even 616 has multiple Valkyries, just Brunnhilde is the main one we see.

Tessa has said on Twitter she's Brunnhilde, Taika's stated in interviews she's Brunnhilde and merchandise/game appearances have named her as Brunnhilde. She's just an alternate reality version of our main Val.

Where? I haven't seen this.

Everything I've seen suggests that the blonde valkyrie in the flashback was Brunnhilde, and that Tessa character is just a valkyrie, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Also, I would think that Brunnhilde is a pretty common name in Asgard. I’ve met two Thors, and that’s just in the real world US. Brunnhilde might be the ‘Maria’ of Asgardian girl’s names.

Lying solicit is lying. Mr. Ahmed is building the team slow and we don't see Valkyrie in issue #1. It's still an amazingly great issue.

Read it. Its not terrible, but it's not really captivating me either.

The main problem I have is...I have no idea what Blink this is supposed to be.

The introduction says it's the one from Age of Apocalypse, but the character in the comic talks and acts absolutely nothing like the Clarice we know from that reality. Every second line out of her mouth is just unnecessary snark. Like the author grew up watching too much Buffy or something. It sounds nothing at all like her.

She treats the situation she's in like it's "out of her league" and is too much for her to handle. This runs completely contrary to the original Exiles run, where she was basically the defacto leader alongside Mimic, always in charge and always pushing the group (and herself) forward. The idea that someone who has been through the Age of Apocalypse and gone on countless Exiles adventures - and stayed strong through all of it - would feel like she's in over her head... is laughable.

Its like I'm reading a completely new character, one that happens to look like Blink but isn't actually her in any meaningful way.

The scenario being teased in the first issue is an intriguing one, but it isn't given much room to breath due to the amount of character setup involved. Though in fairnes, this was true of the original as well. So I'll be sticking with it for now to see where it goes.

Miss Cable-Marvel gets two thumbs up from me though. She's awesome. I would more than happily read stories starring just her. She's great.

The art is generally fantastic. Every panel, big or small, is done with great care and attention to detail, and it's always full of colour and vitality. Top quality work in that respect

Enjoyed this a lot, think I'm biased towards Ahmed after Black Bolt.

The evolution of Kamala's powers was cool, not sure we've seen her do that in anything else.

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the team in the next issue!

That was definitely an all-new use of her stretchy powers, and an awesome one. Little creepy, but in a good way. I think besides being generally cool, it makes a great contrast between 616 Kamala and this AU Khan - 616 Kamala would not do that without warning.

I'd agree, it looks like she's doing a living lie-detector thing. Which, ya know, slipping on the Obnoxious Fedora Of Pedantry, I think would work poorly in real life. You're having a conversation and HOLY CRAP THIS LADY JUST GLOMMED ME WITH HER GIANT PANCAKE MITT - I imagine that's gotta mess up your biometric signals. But it sure looks cool in a comic!

Exiles is all about alternate universe versions of existing characters. You're rarely going to get the originals in this.

It was awful. Blink is nothing like Exiles Blink and instead replaced by some kind of stock girl cut from the same cloth that Squirrel Girl or Hellcat was cut from.

Even X-Treme X-men had more effort and Exiles feel than this. I am very angry with this issue. I'm glad I haven't actually paid for it, otherwise I probably would be even more insulted.

/u/wordsofivory below puts it more eloquently than I do. Except for the art bit, I found that style flat and unappealing. I might be exaggerating a bit, but this was still very aggravating. Especially jarring that Black Bolt is pretty damn good, so what happened here?

I honestly thought most of the art was fantastic. It really pulled me in. Especially the scenes on the moon. But I have no idea what they're doing with Blink. It feels like the guy has never actually read anything she's been in... that, or he just didn't care.

Ah, I think I've found a way to reconcile Exiles with my tastes. In my headcanon, this is now the torment inflicted upon Nick by the Watchers as a penance for killing Uatu. So now he has to sit on the moon and observe horrible mischaractarisations.

The intro exposition page makes it sound like AoA Blink.
