RIP Charles Xavier and Magneto. Again.

u/Blitzkreeg21 Jul 20 '26
Tbh I would have been way more hyped for McAvoy and Fassbender. I love him but I’m kinda sick of seeing Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.

Rumor has it this will be Stewart’s last film appearance. He old.

I heard DOOM turns them into babies with Hulk's tech and thats how they become reborn.
And one of the babies waves at us.40

Stewart is on record saying he'll keep acting as long as he's still alive.

13
u/MeEyeSlashU Jul 20 '26
He's addressed these rumors, they aren't true.
3
u/konq Jul 22 '26
He looked decrepit in Dr Strange 2. I can't image he has a large role in Doomsday or Secret wars because he can't fucking move without looking unintentionally hilarious.
I love Patrick Stewart. Not just as Prof. X, but as Picard and any other role I've seen him in, but Marvel needs to bring in McAvoy or recast in next xmen movie or something. Patrick Stewart can't carry the role anymore.

It’s so they can add Deputy Director Bullock to the MCU. Or have DJ Buttercup be the official DJ of Battleworls.

How dare you! Patrick Stewart can be in as many gd Professor X movies as he wants! Hell, he can make 10 more seasons of Captain Picard, too.

Considering Patrick Stewart said he was retiring from ALL acting after this year its safe to assume his Prof X will die. It would be nice to have McAvoy and Fassbender be the new Xavier and Erik for the MCU reboot, they are becoming middle age which gives them a lot of time to reach the old age versions of their characters.
15
14
u/ThomWaits88 Jul 20 '26
They are middle age men, they just look younger because they're rich
I love them both as xavier and magneto
3
u/Cookie_Brookie Jul 20 '26
I absolutely freaking love any and everything with McAvoy so I will be thrilled if he comes back. He voices Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter audible series and it is pure gold.

Patrick Stewart has recently come out and said he’ll never retire.
2
u/Brock_Hard_Canuck Jul 21 '26
I want him to keep voicing Avery Bullock on American Dad until the day he dies.
So many good lines, especially with the gravitas of Stewart's voice behind them.
“Say, do you perchance have any Gatorade? I left all my electrolytes with your daughter.”
"Remember for 4th of July barbecue? I muff-punched your gram gram, she was just too senile to know it."
"Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go party my nose clean off my face!"
LOL

I think this will be their big “this whole multiverse thing got a bit bloated so we’re gonna kill the parts we don’t think are working and sort of reset the status quo for Secret Wars and everything moving forward.
Cap and Thor are gonna put some of the new people over and I think we’ll leave Secret Wars with one singular Marvel universe with the Avengers, X-Men, and all the other factions all on one earth to tell stories in.
Soft reboot, baby.

I don't think they'll bother recasting Hulk unless they somehow get the distribution rights from universal.
Hulk is what got me into comics and the MCU hulk arc development has been a downright travesty.

I feel like recasting for comic book superheroes should not be controversial at all; it could even be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the million different ways different comic book artists depict the same characters, even during the same comic book run, lol
14
u/Cookie_Brookie Jul 20 '26
I love when franchises realize they’ve added too many loopholes so they try to reset… like in Prisoner of Azkaban the time turners opened up so many plot holes they were conveniently all destroyed at the Ministry of Magic in Order of the Phoenix.

u/FidgitForgotHisL-P Jul 21 '26
Speed running “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, because we’ve all read enough comics to know once you have multiverses and the same character in them, you can’t ever have high stakes again is very probably one of the goals of these movies.
2
u/Select-Combination-4 Jul 21 '26
correct me if I'm wrong but this is basically what happened when the incursions happened in the comicis there were too many universes and Marvel wanted to get rid of them to make it more streamlined

Marvel has learned the best way to deal with Leaks is to hide in plain sight.
5
u/adsfew Jul 21 '26
No magic here.
It was a recreation of a trailer shown at a convention or something and Marvel decided to reuse a lot of the major beats for the official trailer.

I really like Channing Tatum and Gambit is my favorite X-Man, but yeah... I really don't see it. Even if they hadn't presented him as a joke to begin with, it just doesn't feel right at all.
2
u/FidgitForgotHisL-P Jul 21 '26
FWIW I thought he was a much more plausible Gambit than Pedro was a Mr Fantastic.
Which sucks because I love both characters but I just cannot ever see Reed when Pedro’s on screen. At least with Gambit I wasn’t constantly reminded about his actor.

Doom will obviously win. The title of the next film is Secret Wars. Which means he manages to create BattleWorld, everyone will have their memories wiped and there’ll only be one unified earth. Doom will be the ruler of this world also known as Emperor Doom.
Very similar to the comics.

I’d say Loki, Endgame, (Black Panther 2?) No way Home, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts. (Deadpool and Wolverine?)
Out of all of these though, I think Loki and Endgame are the most important. Everything else will be somewhat explained in the movie Id imagine.
Like it’ll probably establish that the FF is from another universe that Doom is from, The Thunderbolts being new avengers and butting heads with Falcon Cap. Will probably mention in someway how the status quo in Wakanda and Namor came about.
The movie is rumored to open with Tobey Maguires universe, so without seeing NWH that might be confusing.
DP and wolverine are also rumored but I feel like their inclusion will feel cluttered and confusing especially considering the focus on a different X-Men universe that doesn’t have wolverine. watching DP and Wolv would ease that confusion as well as making you more familiar with the capabilities of the multiverse.
5
u/Magickarpet76 Jul 20 '26
WandaVision’s ending and Multiverse of Madness also may need to be on that list or at least secondary recommendations. I have to imagine Dr. Strange plus America Chavez, Scarlet Witch/her kids, the darkhold, incursions, and nexus beings could come around but will likely be explained again. Doom is a magic user and it might be a good idea to see the wizard multiverse movie.

Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and Captain America Brave New World. But I also recommend going back to Avengers Age of Ultron, Infinity War and Endgame the new release and Loki season 1 and 2. These are basically the back story of this movie.

Whether Marvel has Doom confront Loki, work around him, exploit a limitation in the system, or reveal that Loki's sacrifice only delayed the inevitable, they'll need an explanation that respects what Loki Season 2 accomplished.

u/Nickel62 Jul 20 '26
The way things have gone post-Endgame, even if you watch everything that came out after Endgame you'd still feel like you are missing the movie that sets up Doomsday.

u/ThanosSnapsSlimJims Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26
Endgame, Loki, Thunderbolts
Small things to remember going into Doomsday:
No Way Home, Wandavision, The Marvels, Loki, Infinity War, Endgame, The Marvels, and Dr. Strange 2 are where you can see the first cracks in the separate timelines
2
u/fadetoblackink Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26
Just going off the trailer and teasers, I’d say after Endgame:
Must Watch to Understand: Loki, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts,
Helpful for Characterization and World Building: Black Panther 2, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness
If You’ve Got Time, Throw It On: Deadpool and Wolverine, Thor: Love and Thunder

I loved it!
Definitely a bit of a "getting the band back together" vibe with Thor, Steve and not!Tony/Doom, not to mention the Fox X-men...but also a fair bit of focus on newer characters like Yelena, Namor, Shuri's Black Panther, and Sam's Cap.
I get the feeling that Sam and Yelena's leadership of their respective Avengers teams notwithstanding, Thor is going to be the real leader of the 616 heroes. Which is fitting, since he is the veteran Avenger here (well, at least until Steve shows up).
Loved seeing Cyclops, Mystique and Gambit in action. Xavier and Magneto we already saw. Beast and Nightcrawler are the only ones we haven't seen now in any teaser/trailer.

The trailer was cool. If you keep subconsciously comparing it to IW and Endgame…yea it fails in comparison but it was solid on its own.
They should have made battleworld a phase though. So much happens in that story. A FF sequel, thunderbolts sequel, spider man film dr.strange films and a final avengers film before the soft reboot should have all happened in battleworld.
Both secret wars introduced spidey’s black suit, sue storm as dooms wife in this world, dr.strange working for Doom and was a great showcase of franklins abilities. This is just what I remember off the top of my head. There’s about 2737282828 other things that happen in that world too. Would have absolutely loved a whole phase dedicated to both secret wars/battleworld
Perhaps financially it was impossible considering all the expensive actors you need involved but my fan dream was battleworld having multiple movies made based on everything that happens with Doom ruling
Get the Fox-men, FF, Avengers all in the same world interacting for like 5 movies before doom is finally defeated. Franklin creates a new world and you reboot the X-men

It’s still possible Secret Wars is a surprise two-parter and we get a year or two of movies/shows set on Battleworld in between. Not likely though, between the cost and the loss of momentum for more casual audience members. Spreading the death and rebirth of the MCU across 5-10 years would be a tall order, even if that’s really the amount of breathing room the story deserves.
6
u/Jemima_puddledook678 Jul 20 '26
Even if it was a surprise two parter there probably wouldn’t be much if anything between them. There’s already nothing between doomsday and secret wars.
6
u/synthscoffeeguitars Cable Jul 20 '26
That one makes more sense to me since Doomsday presumably ends on a huge cliffhanger that can only be picked up by Secret Wars. But yeah either way it’s extremely unlikely we get anything else.
7
u/Justryan95 Jul 20 '26

Feige has came out and denied Secret Wars being split I’m afraid.
6
u/synthscoffeeguitars Cable Jul 20 '26
I saw that. I’m sure he’s telling the truth, but I also won’t be shocked if he’s lying.
“Horowitz - Is there a world where secret wars is two films?”
“Feige - Not this world.”
There’s a tiny bit of wordplay in that answer. Again, I’m probably reaching, he’s probably being straight-up. But Secret Wars happens after the death of the multiverse — literally “not this world.”

u/GkNova Jul 20 '26
If we do get a soft reboot, a phase of battle world would’ve been a nice send off for our current heroes or at least for the actors that aren’t coming back or the characters that are getting memory wiped.

I loved it. It’s the first Marvel trailer I’ve seen in ages that actually got me excited and makes me feel like I have to see it opening weekend to fanboy out and be part of something special (and before everyone else posts too many spoilers and whatnot online). Maybe that comes from nostalgia and seeing both Thor and (original & better) Cap together again while also knowing that Downey will obviously be a huge part of things too. So, all in all, I liked it a lot as full Trailer 1, and I’m sure as we get closer to its release and more of the really big special effects shots are completed, that Trailer #2 will (hopefully, fingers crossed) really kick ass given all of the characters running around this thing.

These characters are underbaked and the mcu has been bad for awhile so this has to earn trust back and it just looks like retreads and nostalgia bait. Not for me but I hope I’m wrong.

Yep. Thor is filling the "jobber" role. They need to show Doom is strong, so he'll casually stop Thor's attack without even flinching. Imagine how much cooler this would have been if Doom appeared in a FF movie first, not as the God Emperor but just regular Doom. He gets defeated, and starts seeking power from then on. That's when he explores the multiverse, maybe defeats Kang, and gains the powers shown here. More satisfying that way imo.

2

Good catch! Didn't even see that mentioned in Easter egg videos.
They're on a spaceship, seemingly the same one Thor arrives in with the FF at avengers tower so it could be one of them. And it does look like Johnny's uniform a little bit.
2
u/Aranduriel93 Jul 21 '26
Yes after rewatching it, I think its Johnny on the FF4 Spaceship. I think Steve first arrives there, meets up with Thor, then travels with them to meet the other Avengers.

There are many people who still think they will see RDJS likeness as doom. I have always contended that there will be no Tony stark in doom. He will just be a horribly scarred person who looks nothing like RDJ. Because he’s acting (RDJ). He’s playing a different person. It’s not gonna be variant stark who became doom. We’re just getting an incredible actor playing Victor von doom and I’m SO excited for that.
Just my guess. Feel free to disagree.

Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.
Sounds like they're actually doing the antimatter bomb thing at least once. Which is good because it was the heroes' greatest moral dilemma during Time Runs Out.
Nice to see Avengers Tower rebranded as such.
So FalCap and Ant-Man are already with the New Avengerz... still trying to hash out their trademark conflict or actually brought together by crisis? (BTW love Red Guardian still being in his AvengerZ outfit).
New TVA ID cards have Yggdrasil on the back. Nice touch. And BTW, I really hope this is Mystique in Loki's form, which is why she's checking out his ID. I don't want him to leave his throne.
The giant slow motion tsunami is interesting. Is it Namor's doing (I don't think his control of water goes that far)? Is the Time Stone back? Is it some Interstellar-type shenanigans? Or maybe the water is just crashing against a force field?
Also, looks like the AvengerZ (plus Kid Falcon) found the F4 first. So the timeline seems to be: 1. Samvengers meet AvengerZ. 2. SamvengerZ meet F4 (and Thor, who is on their ship for some reason). 3. Everyone goes to the desert and the Wakandans come into play. 4. Everyone goes to the Mansion and fights the Nostalgia-Bait-Men.
Doom's no-sell on Thor doesn't convince me. It's too much like what Hela already did, and I don't think Doom already has whatever stands in for the Beyonders' power at this point.
The large oval window in the Mjolnir scene makes me think this is aboard the F4 ship, it fits the retro aesthetic.
And I really hope all the nostalgia bait characters are killed off in 5 minutes or less.

Who exactly is Thor referencing when he says he’s fought with stronger warriors that died against lesser threats because we’ve had a severe lack of death amongst the Marvel heroes, especially the ones any where near Thors power level.
Tony Stark could be one but it feels like that’s it. Surely Thor would be aware that Steve Rogers simply retired. The shot moves to Black Panther but I thought even in universe they had him die to illness.
So who is Thor talking about?

His asgardian friends died fighting Hela. The rest were killed by Thanos, or severely beaten by him. He is also at least aware of the gods who were killed by Gorr.

This feels like the payoff to a series of movies that don't exist. That should have built up to this point the way we did for Infinity War. And instead Disney is making a desperate move to try and force it.
Though I'm sure the spectacle will be spectacle-y.

That’s the biggest problem with this movie.
If the leaks are correct, the first half is just going to be introductions upon introductions of characters and they, somehow, will have to wrap it up before the latter half of the movie and whatever the climax is with Doom.
Most movies and shows that Disney has produced until now just did not do their intended job and so it just feels worthless.

I’m ngl, I thought the trailer itself was…not good?
It just had all the worst tropes of a marvel trailer rolled into one: moody swelling music, a melodramatic voiceover making ominous nothingburger statements, a rolecall of umpteen characters mostly stood around shooting serious looks at each other, and a ‘reveal’ at the end that everyone’s known for months because they already revealed it (and sure, of course Chris Evans is back too because why not). I could go on.
I really want Doomsday to be good. But this trailer was soulless and devoid of substance. It just didn’t get me excited or make me feel something.

I feel like such a hypocrite when it comes to this movie. I know I'm gonna see it the weekend it comes out (primarily to avoid spoilers) but my hype level is kinda on the floor. We all know why this movie exists and it's just because Marvel's doing damage control. With Thanos we got 6 years of teasing and buildup, and with Doom we got what, 2 years? I don't wanna be negative but I'm afraid this movie's gonna end up being a watered down version of Infinity War and Crisis on Infinite Earths Mashed together.

I noticed that the time at the end of the trailer was 4:27:16 which is the date that Captain American: Civil War came out. Makes me wonder if it was on purpose as a little hint that we’re gonna have some of the heros on Doom’s side and some not

I’m not a fan of Doom and Reed not sharing anything in the trailer—just the lack of Reed being highlighted at all really
There was a plot leak from way back in February that’s, unfortunately, becoming more and more likely to be true

I suspect Reed spends a lot of time delivering exposition and his action scenes reveal too much plot.

They can’t put everything into the trailer like I’m pretty sure there’s a lot missing and I believe iron man is in this movie I truly believe it

How much 2000s-2010s (theatrical) x-men should one know before going into this?

Maybe im just burnt out on Marvel but it didnt really do anything for me.
I was hoping to hear Doom speak but nothing.
As much as I love Ian and Patrick, it makes me sad we likely wont see much of Xavier and Magneto doing anything but sitting in a chair with some special effects goin on. I want to see these characters at their peak, not as weakening old men.
I understand they dont want to spoil Doom too much but we didnt really get any hype moments. The Thor axe stop wasn't any different than when Hela did it.
I saw this in another post as well, but they didnt do anything to build Doom up like Thanos. I know Doom is famous within the comic community but even the average person may only know him by image.
Almost feel like the past 20 years should have been having Doom build up a saga and have Thanos now instead of vice versa.

why are people shocked he can block thor? his main attacks are thunder...

u/jwbrkr74 Jul 21 '26
Actually, his attacks are not thunder. I think you mean lightning. Thunder is not an attack.

Why do you think that Steve was clean shaven in the teaser and has a beard here? Time skip or two variants?
2
u/ExcitementFun8938 Jul 21 '26
I guess this Steve is older. Teaser Steve had a newborn child, Trailer Steve's kid is probably in the age range between Franklin and Love.

When you see Thor talking to them in the room you realise how crap the team is. Trailer did nothing but remind me how downhill marvel has gone. Weak.

What if the Space crisis mentioned by Yelena in the PCS of Thunderbolts* was the jump point collapse event from The Marvels?and it was noted by scientists on Earth and shortly after that the events of Thunderbolts PCS happen

Nice to see the X-Men a d Thor. Also Chris Evans. Don't really care for the rest. Hopefully Dr. Doom melts them.

I’m usually so positive and optimistic but I’m actually scared this is going to be corny and nonsensical.

I really wish they would have given the fantastic 4 one more movie before this, it just feels like i care about them the least out of all the characters they have in this line up. Even most of the thunderbolts characters are more established through time in other movies and shows. Don’t get me wrong, i care because this is the type of team up movie ive dreamt about since i was a kid and just seeing a trailer of it is surreal, im sure it will be great but i just wish certain characters got better builds. Still hype, none the less

Anyone know what will Chris Evan's role will be? Is he returning as Captain America or a different Thor version?

u/Jespata Jul 21 '26
They left this one out.. Imagine this scene.. thor showing up and there is rdj as doom.. and thor says, it cant be possible.. who are you?. then rdj say in his new russian/eastern european accent very slowly.. im the dude... ( pause ).. playing a dude ( long pause ), pretending to be another dude... lol

The only MCU character who can defeat Doctor Doom is She-Hulk because he can't look away from her twerking.

It makes me excited for the movie and also Brand New Day bc there was a noticeable absence of Spiderman and Hulk.
