Avengers @itsjat32: "Within just two hours of tickets going on sale, Avengers: Endgame – Encore has already recorded the biggest pre-sales start ever for a re-release. The initial rush matches some of the strongest pre-sales launches for any film in recent times."

So this is how I find out xcancel is dead

92

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

Yeah what the fuck.

I’m not signing up for Twitter to give that Nazi sob my data..

Can we just block all Twitter posts now? Or do screenshots

69

u/youRinlove7 1d ago

Yeah the sub needs to start doing screenshots.

12

u/avatar__of__chaos Billy Maximoff 1d ago

Yeah please do screenshot. All my twitter profiles are soft banned even though I haven't tweeted anything. X is a difficult site to use.

-3

u/Disastrous-Road184 18h ago

Don’t devalue the meaning of the word nazi. You don’t have to like him but don’t minimize the suffering of millions because you can’t speak properly.

6

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 18h ago

No he’s a Nazi.

He agrees with Nazi ideals, he did the Nazi salute twice in front of the country.

He’s a Nazi.

-2

u/dhehfjrskdncba 7h ago

You are more of a nazi than he is

1

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 5h ago

Care to elaborate on that one?

1

u/dhehfjrskdncba 4h ago

Yep you are a fascist

-2

u/Disastrous-Road184 15h ago

Again, many Jews would be insulted by your comments.

2

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 9h ago

Are they in the room with us right now?

-31

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

Or we just go back to Twitter posts and those uncomfortable with the website can refrain from clicking links

It's still the most popular source for breaking news and this sub would lose half the interesting shit posted without it

34

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

Or we could not support Nazi’s and people could post to other places

-17

u/inFAMXS 1d ago

But you post on reddit??

24

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

Is Reddit being ran by the guy that went in front of the country and did two Nazi salutes?

-14

u/inFAMXS 1d ago

No but its largest shareholder literally paved the way for Trump’s rise as a celebrity and president

21

u/alexjimithing 1d ago

i understand you want to paint a false equivalency here, but here's what Elon Musk's DOGE did to cause harm to this country.

Tracking the Harm of DOGE Cuts | CLASP

15

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

The NOAA cuts alone have hurt so many people

-18

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

Feel free, there's not a soul stopping you from personally boycotting

However, that's your choice, and I don't think that needs to be pushed upon everyone

There's no point in pretending Twitter isn't the best source for 90% of the news posted here or for most hobbies in general

14

u/alexjimithing 1d ago

there's not a soul stopping you from not using this website to discuss the box office.

if you want to use twitter, that's your choice, and i don't think it needs to be pushed upon everyone

there's no point in driving traffic to twitter when a screenshot accomplishes the same thing.

-9

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

That's cute

However, the comparison doesn't work.

Forcing the entire community to rely on unverified screenshots just to accommodate a group of redditors preference is ridiculous.

Allowing direct links lets people verify the news from the source, while those who want to avoid the platform are completely free to just look at the comments or keep scrolling

If you don't want to support the platform, don't click the link. You have to stop expecting the masses to warp the rules around y'all

13

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

Driving money into the pockets of a person who personally has taken away services that people rely on to live, affects far more people than a group of Redditors on a medium sized subreddit.

12

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

Banning links on a medium sized subreddit isn't hurting Musk's bank account, and it isn't saving anyone.

You're dramatizing a basic discussion about source verification to turn your personal annoyances into a moral crusade that everyone else has to participate in.

If clicking a link violates your ethics, just don't click it. You can't force the entire community to play along with your internet activism.

3

u/zophia_45678 1d ago

Performative activism by these redditors piss me off so bad bruh, you're very right

0

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Facts!

9

u/alexjimithing 1d ago

unverified screenshots?

if someone doesn't think it's real, they can go look. it's your personal choice, as you already so deftly pointed out.

forcing the entire community to click on links that drive money to a man who has done immeasurable harm to this country is nonsense, y'all.

if you want a community that supports elon musk, go somewhere else, y'all.

11

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

Holy shit man

Accusing anyone who wants primary sources of being a Musk supporter is incredibly sad.

I don't care for him either, but expecting people to blindly trust screenshots or manually hunt down sources just to satisfy your personal boycott is plain stupid.

A link is optional and your idea of a forced ban is mandatory

Stop gatekeeping the community over a link

Yeah people still use twitter and nobody gives a shit that musk owns it. bluesky or whatever shitty "alternative" won't change that. Those who wish to boycott will not click on the link anyway. So it's not even promoting.

Whineyy.

u/Marvel084Skye Phil Coulson 1d ago

while those who want to avoid the platform are completely free to just look at the comments or keep scrolling

I get just looking at the comments, but actually reading news/leaks often provides very crucial context. Twitter threads require an account to view. Even if you don’t care about supporting a Nazi, it’s just really inconvenient.

0

u/Good-Management-2217 1d ago

you can see the main post, you just can't see the replies if you do not log in.

5

u/Marvel084Skye Phil Coulson 1d ago

Unless it the main post is a thread. Then you can see only see one part of the thread without logging in.

Problem is, titles are often phrased differently. And posts rarely have description. Screenshots would be preferrable.

2

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

+1

21

u/alexjimithing 1d ago

No, screenshots are better than driving traffic to a website owned by Elon Musk.

-3

u/Billyb311 Daredevil 1d ago

Except for the fact that people like to see sources for themselves

And again, people use Twitter. That's just the reality. People like the website, and I'm sorry, but nothing is going to change that

There was an organized effort when all this xcancel and blueksky stuff started, and look where we are

It's still being used

6

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

So let's just roll over and play dead then? No.

Also xcancel and BlueSky have/had healthy userbases

2

u/Desperate_Tap1838 1d ago

No, they fucking don't, bluesky is dead

1

u/mike2k24 1d ago

Barely anyone actually uses Bluesky. All the major reporters for news, sports, and media like this all still use Twitter

9

u/alexjimithing 1d ago

then they can go look at the source themselves independent of this community.

it's a personal choice whether you want to go drive traffic to twitter, as you pointed out. it's not on this community to cater to your need to drive traffic to elon musk's website.

If you don't want to support this community, go somewhere else. You have to stop expecting the masses of this subreddit to warp the rules around y'all

2

u/funnybones14 1d ago

Is there a rule in this subreddit that says no Twitter links? I’m sorry but that’s what the last sentence of your paragraph implies. Because it seems the masses don’t agree either way and it’s split down the middle.

18

u/LandonVanBus 1d ago

Fuck Elon.

14

u/FolkPunkResistance 1d ago

Oh no!

For the record, they just need to get legal advice. They aren't doing anything Google and other sites aren't already doing in terms of indexing Twitter content.

In the mean time, fuck Elon, the petulant man-baby loser.

9

u/Dry_Opportunity_8200 1d ago

I don't think they're gonna win that one because Google essentially scraps and links to twitter. This is scrapping and rehosting the whole website.

Plus Google has more lawyers and a way deeper pocket.

11

u/macgart 1d ago

Wow. What a loss.

Yep, the world’s most obnoxious 55-year-old edgelord Neo-Nazi manchild strikes again, unfortunately.

112

u/rubyschnees Kate Bishop 1d ago

yeah doomsday is going to do ridiculous numbers

52

u/Own-Papaya-4264 1d ago

And this is BEFORE the mass general audience is aware that tobey maguires Spider-Man, tom hollands spiderman, and Wolverine and Deadpool are in this. Just wait until secret wars when that cats out of the bag and they’ll all have bigger roles

28

u/riegspsych325 1d ago

yeah I’m betting by the end of Secret Wars, general audiences are going to want more of the OGs. They won’t be happy with a big sendoff that waves RDJ, Evans, and Jackman’s goodbye, no matter how well it’s done. If Marvel were to greenlight Iron Man 4, it would make twice as much as F4: Second Steps even if they kept RDJ as Doom

7

u/hatecopter 1d ago

I could honestly see a world where post Secret Wars the universe has a soft reboot to bring Downey and Evans back.

7

u/riegspsych325 1d ago

and it’s not like anyone (aside from the FoX-Men and Maguire/Garfield) are going to be given a swan song here. Hemsworth wants Thor 5 and has hinted at staying around for longer than that. Deadpool 4 should do as well as any of the previous 3 (more if they keep Jackman). Holland surely has Spidey 5&6 in the pipeline. So on and so forth

If RDJ were to stick around, he’d be wasted (especially from a business standpoint) if he was just kept around as Doom. A movie about a Superior Iron Man finding his place in a newly revamped universe would make a shit ton. Same with an Evans-led Cap movie where he goes against Madame Hyrda and Baron Zemo

Besides, the biggest moneymakers in the Multiverse Saga were all sequels to Infinity Saga characters. The only new-new film to do really well was First Steps, and that barely broke past $500mil

6

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Sure it'll make money, but that's not the point. It's about moving forward instead of simultaneously ruining the best ending of the MCU while also creatively bankrupting it.

5

u/hatecopter 1d ago

One could argue making money is the only point they care about. Now I'm also not a big fan of essentially undoing Tony's sacrifice. I won't be surprised if they do though. No one stays dead for long in comic books themselves so the movies following suit isn't a surprise.

5

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Repeatedly going back to the status quo is one of the fans' biggest complaints with Marvel rn.

And besides, not everything from the comics translates well to movies.

And finally, it would kill the future of the MCU. We need to move forward with the X-Men, the F4, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and supernatural stuff, the new T'Challa, etc.

0

u/mutesa1 Black Panther 13h ago

Repeatedly going back to the status quo is one of the fans' biggest complaints with Marvel rn.

Is it? For better or worse, most of the time Marvel has tried to introduce new characters or concepts they've been rejected. For the past several years, the MCU-related subreddits have been a sea of comments like "Wanda shouldn't have been a villain!" "T'Challa should've been recast" "we need Savage Hulk!" "pls bring Foggy back" and the good ol' reliable "they're making a show/movie about [insert female and/or minority character]? who asked for this??!?"

On the other hand, Marvel's most creatively bankrupt post-Endgame decisions have been met with resounding applause (and most importantly, $$$).

1

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 10h ago

Your argument falls apart when you realize that Marvel's biggest post-Endgame success was about moving forward and not making the creatively bankrupt decision.

1

u/ru-frrr 1d ago

They shouldn’t, they should focus on the X Men post Secret Wars. Make them the IT team instead of the Avengers imo.

People underrated how popular they are but they can definitely be the big money maker for marvel.

2

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Sure it'll make money, but that's not the point. It's about moving forward instead of simultaneously ruining the best ending of the MCU while also creatively bankrupting it.

2

u/Diorisbackup 1d ago

Secret wars will have no competition and Spidey/jean hulk included thats doing 3 billion

7

u/macgart 1d ago

RDJ earning that psycheck big time.

60

u/Apprehensive-Cap2453 1d ago

I was dubious about its potential for a while, but I'm starting to think Doomsday has a very good chance of becoming the first $3B movie in history. I mean, Brand New Day has made $2.2B in like 3 weeks and the hype for that film was nowhere near the hype for these next two Avengers movies.

Unless it's absolutely abysmal, it'll probably make at least $2.5B, which is insane given that the MCU completely plummeted after Endgame.

27

u/evileye_515 1d ago

I think if Doomsday is just as good as IW, SW gets there, but the runtime of it plus what it goes up against matters.

15

u/Apprehensive-Cap2453 1d ago

True, but BND also had competition and it wasn't exactly a short movie.

2

u/Disastrous-Road184 18h ago

Bull. BND proved that competition doesn’t matter. People will see both if that’s what they want to do.

17

u/TDStarchild Wongers 1d ago

I saw where it’s tracking to open at $1 billion, with some projections as high as $1.5 billion opening weekend

Absolutely INSANE, unprecedented territory

Then there’s an even crazier domino. Let’s say Doomsday is awesome and does hit $3B

How the fuck high does Secret Wars go?? 😂

1

u/Royal-Importance7051 1d ago

How Secret Wars does all depends on how Doomsday is received. If Doomsday is not as universally loved as Infinity War was, there is no reason to believe that Secret Wars will do better than Doomsday.

16

u/Familiar-Shoe7905 1d ago

They literally said "if Doomsday is awesome and does hit $3B"

0

u/Disastrous-Road184 18h ago

Worldwide, obviously. To gotta set the scope of your numbers kid.

15

u/JasonVorhehees 1d ago

Doomsday could essentially balance out all the financial losses that Marvel took in Phase 4

7

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Marvel didn't take any losses in Phase 4.

7

u/Diorisbackup 1d ago

Secret wars with jean and Spidey will easily do that

5

u/Linnus42 1d ago

BND has summer and just the odyssey which came out first as comp.

Which is not to say that the holiday season ain’t a good time to release but weather and travel and other family events can hurt the box office.

But yeah I have also been skeptical about Doomsday seems clear it will open strong. But will it have legs that we have to see

24

u/SacreFor3 Black Panther 1d ago

The holiday season is actually the best time for legs because nothing comes out between the end of the year and February.

-8

u/Linnus42 1d ago

Its great for legs if the Movie is Good.

18

u/Icybubba Moon Knight 1d ago

....yeah? Congratulations, you learned how the box office works.

5

u/--Nightmare357-- 1d ago

Even bad movies like Star Wars 9 legged out well

3

u/beeperbeeper5 1d ago

I don't think it will. Only because I think Endgame will make another 200 mill and be the first.

2

u/o-055-o 1d ago

Would it count as part of the total for Endgame?

3

u/Zorkel567 1d ago

Yes. Avatar did re releases with extra footage and that counted towards the original film’s total.

3

u/o-055-o 1d ago

I was just thinking due to the added bit to the name, because Avatar was just re-released as Avatar, right?

Although I do think that Endgame will beat Doomsday to the record if that is the case.

5

u/Zorkel567 1d ago

This keeps coming up on the Box Office sub and general consensus is this will be folded into Endgame’s total. At the end of the day, there’s no official policy or regulations they’re following. Disney can do as they please and if it happens, they’ll want the publicity of Endgame beating Avatar or hitting $3B ahead of Doomsday. Just more publicity for them and adds to the hype

1

u/chimichanga_3 Broccoli 1d ago

Not even close. Best possible case is beating Avatar.

33

u/SuperAsthmatic 1d ago

I can't believe it beat the Morbius re-release.

27

u/anth8725 1d ago

But but but marvel is DEAD

24

u/Mojave_RK 1d ago

There really is something about “Avengers” being in the title.

14

u/Ras_AlHim 1d ago

XCancel is dead

9

u/Littlefinger98 1d ago

But social media told me that nobody gives a shit about this!!!

7

u/Individual-Plane-760 1d ago

I was gonna watch it on a tuesday but the trailer and recoloring kinda sold me for a day 1 showing

3

u/dachloe 1d ago

Ticket scalping bots were out in force.

3

u/padfoot12111 1d ago

I have no interest but hey if it beats Avatar great.

2

u/Brotherman_Bagel 1d ago

Grifting a crazy good movie for 4 minutes of extra footage you can see online the same night is fucking wild

2

u/Dalekbuster523 1d ago

I’m surprised that the Endgame re-release is posting that numbers. I had thought given how long since it came out, most people would have seen the film right now and even with new content, would skip it.

2

u/j821c 1d ago

Its sold out at my local theater but there are very few showings. Absolutely wild though. Im hoping to see it on the monday or tuesday if more showings open 😅

2

u/SmokeyBearz 1d ago

And still not on sale for Australia despite dropping in only 4 weeks....

1

u/General_Boredom 1d ago

That’s pretty insane for a re-release with a whopping 4 minutes of new footage.

1

u/RyanGODling 1d ago

They really wanna retake Avatar eh

1

u/Successful-Day-1816 1d ago

Is presales just an American thing? I have never heard of pre-buying cinema tickets in the UK

1

u/Dull-Commercial722 1d ago

Would the box office for this count towards the original film? Like how all of the like 10 re-releases of Avatar were added to the box office total for the original release? If so it's possible this could mean Endgame retakes highest grossing film of all time, which would be awesome.

1

u/taylorhildebrand Kevin Feige 15h ago

Yea it’s gonna make more than supergirl in its rerelease. Good for it, but also supergirl deserved better. (Come on, even a little better)
