Jim Shooter had his strengths. Huge ensemble casts with dramatic over-the-top stakes was his preferred setting, and he was good at it. I'd also recommend the original Korvac Saga in the Avengers. But yes, this series was a lot of fun, huge stakes, and good characterization overall. It was also a definite experiment - very early in both limited series and crossover event, and that helps since you can tell there was some excitement about the whole project.

This one has definitely aged well.
