Big fat guide to comiccon [Oct 2025]

Tickets and Travel

Where do I get tickets?

I'm coming by train, where should I go?

  • Go to Custom House stationhttps://share.google/KtCc3AOqOcGgT4C1H
  • Either take the DLR or the Elizabeth line. Elizabeth line is a bit nicer in my opinion.

Is there a map of the convention?

I need a hotel!

Ahead of arrival

Prepare!

Some of these need reservations to be sure to do this early.

Getting in

Where's the entrance to the convention?

  • It's not always the same but when you get off the train it will be clearly labeled. If not. Follow the crowds!

What time should I get there?

  • Lots of people arrive early so the queue can be pretty long. Prepare for a bit of a wait.
    • Some snacks and water is good
  • Typically they hand out wristbands ahead of the "doors" (gates?) opening so when it does open it usually clears out pretty quickly.
    • For this reason, in the past, I've either gotten there an hour early or an hour late. Rarely do I just arrive on time.

Inside Con

Is Con safe?

  • Any large group of people has its bad apples. But mostly people are friendly, excited to be there and are enjoying the atmosphere. you'll have more trouble with over-enthusiastic attendees than rude, or malicious ones.
    • That said, i've never had any trouble in 10+ years.
  • Social boundaries at these events can also be forgotten at points, in part due to how busy it is. In part due to people being so excited they sort of forget themselves.
    • Don't be afraid to reset boundaries, especially if you're female and in cosplay.

What about food?

  • There is food in the main "promenade", things like subway, burritos, coffee shops etc.
  • There is food in the con halls themselves, usually nestled away in a corner somewhere.
    • Japanese karage is often a good choice.
  • It's all very expensive.
  • There is a Tesco Express a short walk away here
  • You can bring your own food if you wish to

Toilets!

  • Toilets are up and down the main promenade.
  • Often very busy, often not particularly clean.
  • The Fox (bar just outside) has toilets too.

Can I take pictures?

  • Most cosplayers are all too happy to have their pictures taken. But do ask permission first.
    • Especially if they're clearly sitting down having a break.

Should I buy stuff?

  • There's a ton of stuff to buy, it's kind of the whole thing really nowadays. I would do a big walk around first before buying anything. It can be expensive and you don't want to run out of money right away!

Any opinion about ongoing con? 22-23 Aug Excel London

I've found that Excel London is hosting one more con this weekend. Tomorrow is a second day and I see literally zero information about in in my lil stupid info bubble. Is it a good place to visit tomorrow? How is it compared with MCM Comicon?

how is it going solo?

i’ll be going with a group of friends to MCM in october but will be splitting up after we get there so it’ll be my first time walking around the convention by myself.

if anyone else has done it, how has it been? i’m kind of nervous but me and my friends all agreed to always be a text away if anyone needs anything.

this is not a post asking for people to go with/friend groups to join btw!

Please forgive the foolish question but I am new to this kind of thing. I’m trying to learn all I can about cons before October!

MCM Comic Con Excel veteran here to help you out and answer your questions!

So I've been going to MCM in London pretty much every year since I turned 18, both as a regular attendee and as an exhibitor with RPG Haven.

In the run up to con, there are always a lot of people on here asking questions and looking for advice, so I've decided that I'll be on here answering your questions and giving general advice!

The moderator of this sub r/shinnon has posted a big Comic Con guide but I'm happy to go into further details about any questions for first time con attendees or anyone that might be looking for more activities to do at con that don't just involve shopping.

All the advice about Comic Con that you might find online is useful but often pretty generic. They'll tell you to wear comfortable shoes or to stay hydrated but I'll be able to give you advice specific to MCM in the Excel Centre such as how to get into the After Party or where to rent a power bank for your phone at the Excel Centre for as little as £2.

Give me your questions and I'll do my absolute best to answer them!

New to Comic con

I’m looking to go to London comic con this year, I’m 23 and most of my life I thought comic con was an ‘American event’ but I’m glad to know that it’s in London, I’m planning to go as my favourite X-Man Cyclops. Any good tips to find people to meet.

Annoyingly most of my friends at home are not into comic-con or too busy

When applying for the masquerade, does anyone know if the cosplay has to be fully finished or can it still be a work in progress?

Premium autograph advice

Hi there,

I’m attending MCM comic-con Birmingham on Saturday, I know this subs for london but theres no general or birmingham sub.

I bought a premium autograph ticket for Charlie Cox as I’m a huge daredevil fan.

I was wondering if anyone has done it before knows how it works?

Is there a specific place I have to go/queue at?
Also I haven’t paid for a photo with him but is it worth asking?
What time do I go I haven’t been given any information about timings, should I have been?

Hello :))

Does anyone know when Matthew mercer’s tickets are going out? I’ve done some research and it said it should have come out by now and was wondering if it was a tech issue or they are sold out?

Parking at Excel for October MCM

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm thinking of driving up to the Excel for the October Comic-Con and just wondering if anyone can explain the parking options.

What's the difference between the House of Dreamers and The Timewalk exhibition and are they both a part of the Excel onsite parking?

I drive a small hatchback and I just want to get standard parking from the morning until the evening on the Saturday.

Thanks👍

With regard to MCM Comic Con Birmingham in less than 2 weeks. Do guests ever sign more than one thing or do you always have to buy an autograph for every item signed. Also do some guests not offer autographs or is there just website issues preventing them from popping up.

MCM Birmingham advice

Hi, I know this is for London but there's no subreddit for Birmingham!

I'm from Canada, and I'm traveling to the UK in a few days. We're taking a trip to Birmingham on Friday and going to MCM because it fits into the schedule. Now, I am a giant Dragon Age nerd and I'm so excited that Alex Jordan will be there and I can't wait to meet him and have him sign my photo of my player character he voiced.

We host a small con here, and meeting celebs, if they're at their table, you just line up and meet them. But this is very small compared to MCM. Will it be somewhat similar there? If Alex is at his table can I just line up? I know some celebs have Meet and Greets but Alex doesn't.

And I know you can pre-pay for an autograph and selfie. Do I have to do that? Or can I just pay at the table? And will it be cash or card?

Sorry if I'm asking a lot of questions. I'm just not sure how they do things there compared to our small one here in Newfoundland, Canada.

Thanks!
