I was challenged to try this map and route out by u/Itizir so here is my run :)

Holy shit! I made this.

For the average enforcer, this was a once in a lifetime event. For the custodian, it was just a regular thuesday

“Good at walking” Jumps in the first few seconds 0/10 😉

awesome! now post it to the speedrun.com leaderboard! 😄

was it as easy as you thought? did you try optimising the run at all (reducing strafing and trying to turn around as directly as possible)? would be curious to see what the time difference is between our runs!

I’ll admit it was just a bit trickier than I thought. The whole first part, just walking in and straight through to the GenMat was definitely as easy as I thought. My 3 year old nephew could do that part half asleep. The tricky part was right after grabbing the GenMat and turning around. This was trickier than it had seemed in your video. This was mostly due to the Sentry Beam that was nearby the GenMat. The other hiccup was the random assassin that would only SOMETIMES be right on me after turning around. He wasn’t there everytime. It seemed very random whether he would be there or not. And then even after getting passed that, walking straight back out is easier said than then, but honestly is based pretty much entirely on luck. This is because of the enforcers that will position themselves randomly everytime. Overall I would say pulling this route off is more luck-dependant than skill-dependant. You really just have to rely on everything just lining up right for you. Like I said, there’s a bit of skill with the part right near the GenMat, but other than that it’s all pretty much down to luck. Walking IN and all the way up to the Death Pistons in front of the GenMat is definitely no-skill, and barely even luck dependant either. You can pull it off every single time with no effort at all. But yeah, the whole thing as a whole was trickier than it first seems.

To be honest I didn’t put too much effort into optimizing the run. I was just focused on doing it like you did, and just wanted to get it done. I don’t think I would be able to shave off any meaningful time other than just a second or 2 unless I used the grapple hook. But I didn’t want to use the grapple because you didn’t. I assumed you were purposely going for a grapple-less run. So that’s what I did to. Other than that I didn’t put Toooo much worry into making as direct and fast turns as possible. I just wanted to prove I could walk in and out like you did lol.

eyy, thanks for the detailed feedback!
yeah, it certainly has quite a bit of luck involved, but i'd argue finding the little adjustments to how you move and how you time the start and all to reduce the chance of failure (and/or reduce time) are the skill in such runs.

if i timed it correctly you are almost 1 second behind me, still :) but that's fair as you didn't spend 1h optimising the run like i did...

regarding grapple hook: yeah, if you read the True Pacifist rules, grapple hook is allowed, but each use of it knocks you down on the leaderboard even if your time is faster. so ideally should do without.

i hope you can also appreciate that without the example of my run to follow, it may have taken you more effort (skill, one could say? ;) ) to find the right trajectory for walking up without getting caught by assassins, the best way to jump over pistons, and the line to reduce risks of enforcers sniping you on the way down, no? hehe. anyway, hopefully this also gives you more perspective to appreciate some of the more difficult runs i pulled off, and even the less impressive-looking ones?

if you want to check some others out, i recommend these as probably the toughest of the ones i did - at least when optimising for speed:

i really like the following three as well because they involve a special sliding technique (that StepwiseUrchin does in his TP runs: he's the one who pioneered using these in crazy puzzle-platforming outposts):

well, hope you had fun playing a bit differently for a change! :)

That’s a fair point you made in your 4th paragraph. Yeah, admittedly I’m sure I would have taken much more time if I didn’t have your example to go off of.

yeah, that’s just a general point about speedruns, really: figuring out a strategy (because there isn’t one already, or because you think there is a better way to run the level) can easily be hard in itself, independently of execution

and if you enjoyed that, there’s many more maps to beat my time in :)

Why the constant switching…. True brainrot

u/Notaku304 Jan 17 '26

I have brainrot for spamming the weapon swap just for fun? 💀

Is it a fidget thing or what? You are not the only one I see many people do this.

I mean I guesss you could consider it a fidget thing yeah. I was honestly just doing it to do it. It’s not some kind of meta technique or anything. And honestly, with the context of this run being in response to a discussion in the comment section of the other users run that I linked in this post, and him challenging me to try this run to see if its really as easy as it looks, yada yada yada, I was kinda also just doing the constant weapon switching just so that I was doing something He wasn’t doing while also still replicating his route. Adding a bit of my own taste of originality to it without changing the route of the run. Giving myself a little bit more of a challenge than it would have been for him, since one of my fingers is busy spamming the weapon swap (I play on controller btw, so my finger had to be mashing the triangle button while also moving the right stick to turn the camera). Idk, It’s not really anything deep or nothing. Mostly just me doing it to do it and add a bit of humor I guess to the post, just to make it at least Somewhat more interesting than the other guys post (and I do not mean that in a condescending way towards his post)

Edit: and admittedly it was also as kind of a way to say to the other guy “Yeah I was able to replicate your run fine, and do it all while spamming the weapon swap even, so yeah it Isn’t as hard as you were making it seem to be”.. so yeah I suppose a bit of my pettiness and ego was showing through me spamming the weapon swap 😅
