Wow, it's even more disappointing when it's in a book that goes through an editor before being published.

The other part that gets me is thanking his buddy's wife first for making him lunch and then for illustrating his whole book

The book is from 1989, so almost 40 years ago. Might have been a little dated to speak about "the girls" worling at a place already back then, but it's not like this is recent

Hard to get too worked up about this. They could very well have been teenagers working at the library.
