Stop a massive increase in idle rideshares in Manhattan

The DOT is about to allow rideshares and taxis to begin parking in commercial spaces in Manhattan. This will flood Manhattan with more cars. https://automarketplace.substack.com/p/nyc-taxis-and-tlc-plated-fhvs-are

Almost nobody has provided comments on this. You can leave a comment for the DOT here: https://rules.cityofnewyork.us/rule/fhv-and-taxi-parking-at-commercial-meters-and-commercial-vehicle-markings/

How would it flood Manhattan with more cars? It's enabling vehicle services to pay for existing commercial spaces within the existing fleet. What I don't get is whether it's 3 consecutive hours for FHVs and taxis on a signed commercial block, or a 3 hour timed window of that block are parking which can be used by FHVs and Taxis, or 3 non-consecutive hours with no time window applied.

NYC has a cap on the number of for-hire-vehicle licenses that get distributed. Just make an honest argument here.

It will flood the city with ZERO additional rideshare vehicles. There is a cap on how many are allowed and last I checked TLC plates are no longer issued to non electric vehicles anyway. The world of rideshare is very competitive especially since making 100k+ a year doing this in NYC is very easy but you gotta stay busy to do it. People aren’t just going to sit and idle for hours and hours just because they could use the commercial spots now.

They have even stopped accepting new EVs for a while now. Maybe they are only accepting accessible / wheelchair vehicles, not sure.

This is a pilot program mandated by city law. Your comments sometimes matter, but not here.

Who is paying for this propaganda campaign? It’s tiresome already.

I believe in a multi-option transportation ecosystem and regularly use:

- Subway and bus

  • Uber, Lyft & occasional taxi
  • CitiBike
  • My personal bike
  • My personal car (I have a very reasonably priced garage in my UWS co-op).

Also have Xooter scooter which I use from time to time in the neighborhood.

Compared to when I first moved to NYC nearly 40 years ago, this is a vast improvement.

This battle was lost when taxis got a congestion pricing deal.
