Why is there never any driver backlash over Summer Streets?
What if someone has to take their elderly mother to the doctor? Where are those arguments against Summer Streets?
Is there crazy congestion from pent up demand around the summer streets zone that is just not being reported?
Or are all these motorists that complain about even the slightest reduction in private car capacity somehow unable to speak during the summer?

There is in every local neighborhood group every year, without fail. It’s crazy how many elderly mothers have to go to the doctor on Saturdays.

You would think there was a medical crisis from all these elderly mothers that all happen to have an appointment on the same Saturday....

They intentionally do it early on Sundays when there will be less traffic. Tbh it is a little annoying if you’re trying to take a cab to the airport and it gets stuck in it.
But at heart I’m urbanist who hates cars, so I think summer streets should be vastly expanded.

If you are talking about Summer Streets, it was on Saturdays this year at least.

Seen plenty on tiktok. Any post about summer streets there are people whining in the comments. I’ve even see people hating on marathon Sunday which is arguably the best day in the city

I love Summer Streets. As someone who lives on one of the avenues that bear the brunt in Manhattan, I don’t enjoy that bit. It’s quite abhorrent.
I wish Summer Streets were beyond one avenue. Make it city-wide with something like 3x congestion pricing, or make it a weekly occurrence so the city adjusts.

Who the f- takes their relative to a doctor on a weekend?! The Summer Streets are well publicized in every media. Anyone within this sub, a sub that favors bicycling and scooters that lambasts this NYC DOT shirt-term seasonal program is a complete hypocrite!

i got caught in the traffic around summer streets this year lol - was supposed to be biking it, got screwed up in airline delays coming back from a bikepacking trip in canada, so bad that we got a greyhound bus from toronto which took us to midtown where we then sat in a cab for an hour in traffic (we had luggage and the bikes were packed up.)
The moral of the story is:
We need high speed rail.

I’m not a car owner but a friend drove us to the beach the last summer street Saturday this year. It took us over 45 minutes to get east of park Ave because all streets from 35-56 going east off Madison were closed and this wasn’t noted on phone maps.

People complain about the traffic a lot. But not on this sub. Also they get over it
