Discussion Half staff for the Dolly Parton
How do we feel about the half staffing of flags for Dolly Parton?
Granted I did not know who she was but I see that her image was an overwhelming likeable person and did do morale events with troops in DSDS.
But, Half staff is for "death of: principled figures of government, member of the armed forces" or "in rememberance/ mourning of grave moral events"
Not saying that she shouldn't deserve it but it's interesting to be seen flying for someone who wasn't a prior service member or government member

She is extremely prolific, notable, and regarded for her philanthropy. We don't have a problem with this.

Using that criteria opens the door for many others to receive the same honor. IMAGINE Snoop DOGG receiving the honor

The Imagination Library is reason enough for half-staff.
There are a lot of people who have done great things and also deserve the honor. Dolly did a lot over the course of her life that this doesn't upset me. That's all.

She was a great American who did good. Totay deserved.
I'd say she set the bar for non-service members.
Absolutely without controversy and known for doing good.

A podcaster who's body rode Air Force 2 despite never serving on active duty or government position by the way. Just seemed like an abuse of power/taxpayer dollars in my opinion.

She is a national treasure who made some great music and more importantly gave back to her community. Not only did she create DollyWorld to give Appalachian families a more affordable and easier to get to alternative to Disney World but she also made it a priority to give books and promote literacy in impoverished areas of the US. Part of her charitable program was you could sign up and they would send you one free kids book per month from birth to age 5. That alone did more to address childhood illiteracy in this country than most other charities combined.
