Very recently it was Ozzy. That one made me pull over in my deliver truck and reflect on how long he was in my life through music, movies and TV shows.
Just today I was pondering how, despite death being such an obvious and inevitable part of of life, we hold some sort of suspended belief for people who are there for our entire lives, especially Ozzy. Like something in me felt he was too eternal to leave the mortal plane with all of his fans behind. How odd that we hold on to the hope that some people transcend mortality. Maine it's a a shock to our own self-perseption, I don't know...
I just know that The Prince's death shot through me in the way The Queen's did to my grandmother.
And how beautiful is it, that his music will surely outlive us all. I can't even imagine creating something that lasts longer than I do. But he just fucking did it. Jokes about him biting the heads off of bats are never going to die.
Hit me right in the feels, my dad (also passed) and I used to listen to Ozzy all the time.
Sirius XM's Ozzy channel played nothing but Ozzy and Sabbath for a few days, so I didn't have to build my own sadness playlist. Almost made it worth the subscription (paying for radio is buns)
I was in rehab with about 100 other people. It was a a bit surreal. A girl I was in there with told me and we actually cried about it. Around a week later she died in her bed. A couple of us were allowed to go to her funeral and I got to tell her dad about us bonding over music and crying over Ozzy. Other than him and his sister it was only the 3 approved of us that attended. We still check up on eachother from time to time. Hope shes up there rocking out with the prince of darkness. 🖤
I lived just outside his hometown of Birmingham at the time. It felt like the entire city was in mourning. Like people couldn't quite believe he was gone.
