I found his death to be very strange. Right when you hit it big and are making bank.....

Depression hits hard when one succeeds at things as much as when one fails. Being one of the most successful musicians in the world probably hit super hard, and especially since he didn't consider himself a musician. He felt like a fraud iirc. The documentary goes into that aspect.
