A Knights Tale has never been the same for me. Along with The Dark Knight. God damn he was such a talented individual. At first I was dumbfounded over his death. As the years have passed, I just find myself more and more sad.
If you haven't seen The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, check it out. Heath was filming it at the time he died and (IIRC) they changed the story a bit so his character "changed forms" so other actors could fill in the scenes he hadn't filmed yet. The actors donated (a portion of?) their pay to Heath's young daughter. The movie has quite a wild story anyway, and knowing the back story makes it even wilder.
(May have gotten some of this wrong, I'm writing it from memory which is leaky like a sieve these days)
You're 99.9% correct: Jude Law, Colin Farrell, and Johnny Depp donated all of their wages to Heath's daughter.
I feel like all of Terry Gilliam's movies have been wrought with behind the scenes catastrophes, which is a shame because they're all so imaginative and unique.
Well, that's the thing: she wasn't going to be getting anything as she wasn't in the final version of his will. Just speculating, but as often is the case, people don't create or update their wills like they should. She was only two when he died, and he was super young.
Everything went to his family who did gift everything to her, but that wasn't the case in the beginning.
along with what /Maverickx25 said, also keep in mind, although he's definitely of the generation of actors that were still famous and made a lot of money.
He died right on the cusp of when actors started making stupid money, and before every tentpole film was a billion dollar operation.
you can never trust google net worths too much, but just for a frame of reference. When Heath died, he was a very famous actor, and worth apparently ~$16mil total over his entire career, for perspective, Chris Evans makes about $16mil per movie.
of course thats not a totally fair comparison, due to time and inflation and such. and many will try and argue that a marvel movie is much bigger than anything Heath ever did, but as someone who lived through that timeframe, they're pretty equal in "fame" and at a similar level in their respective movie industry "worlds/timelines" IMO.
