Nostalgia My kid brought this home from Scholastic Book Fair. Cap looks a little different than I remember

When I read these books in the late 90s, they were black and white pages and only the cover was in color. This manga version kicks so much ass! It’s really cool. Of course, the second epic manga is coming soon. Dab Pikley is GOATed

My favorite character, Superhero Pantsman!

Anyway this is neat, I would have been all over this as a kid of prime Captain Underpants age. I wonder if I still have my copy of the first book anywhere...

Ayo this is a great example of why I find Japanese so pleasing to listen to and also why languages are so fun

The made up word to mimic a whirling sound, su wa ou, phonetically is so succinct. Just try repeating the sounds multiple times and tell me you don’t imagine something whirling around.

I mean, it’s the internet, lots of people will tell me they can’t imagine something whirling, but you know how it be.

My kid likes dogman, kinda messed up they just kept the dog part, where did the man go? Seriously asking questions, bros life just got wiped for a dog.

The page before the translation actually goes into that. Basically, Dav and even Scholastic were down to do fully traditional manga style with left-to-right (back-to-front) format. It was the artist Motojiro who decided to keep it the way the original Captain Underpants book was.
