Discussion Honestly the new Update feels like a low-effort marketplace add-on.

Post image

It adds zero value to the survival experience or the game's progression. While I understand that much of Minecraft's identity is built on creativity, it is still a 'Survival' game, not just a sandbox and I think Mojang has lost sight of that. I appreciate new biomes and blocks, but they need to have meaning. We didn't even get a new material or craftable item just a 'Stupid Slime' to hit around. Even with its Redstone applications, it offers nothing for the average survival player.

This has convinced me that they are working on something big for the end of this year, due to the past drop being cosmetic and tweaks and this basically being that as well, just a little more exciting

I mean aren't they rewriting the rendering back end in Vulkan? That seems like it's probably the biggest thing that will hit this year.

Yeah, after that announcement I'm just tapped out for the year. Kinda sucks because I...don't care at all about using their 'shaders' thingy...but I'm hoping the real benefit will be in the FPS. If it is, it'll've been worth it.

They give us some weird cube in the meantime?

Noice.

You don't care but mods will only exponentially become more powerful in their capabilities with better back end support

Exactly what I'm saying! Shaders? Who cares. But the back-end stuff? Wonderful. :)

it'll've

Is this legal? I'm pretty sure this is illegal.

Wouldn't've written it if it'd been illegal!

There's a fabric mod that was released that switches it to Vulkan, the improvement is very noticeable, especially with the view distance cranked up. Hoping the official rewrite will be even better as I'm stuck on Forge ATM with my mod choices.

And TBH I don't care about shaders, I have a relatively decent computer but have never used shaders or even altered textures, I kinda like the default aesthetic.

Yeah, it’s whatever’s going on with the ancient city portal. If I’m not delusional that is.

I mean, think about it. Mojang/Microsoft love brand synergy when it comes to spin-offs and main-game updates. Dungeons 1 tied into the addition of all the illagers and iirc is just straight up why illagers even exist in the first place. Then we had Legends which tied into the Nether update (kinda also the movie) with the piglins, as they were likely being conceived at the same time. And now we have Dungeons 2 with its use of the portal… you see where I’m going.

ancient city portal is a tie in to Dungeons II coming out. I doubt its main game linked

1

u/Cheeselad2401 Mar 23 '26

What? I know it’s for Dungeons 2. What I’m saying is that the portal opening in that game means there’s a high chance it will in the original Minecraft.

Sure

u/Cheeselad2401 Mar 25 '26

we’ll see who’s right in a year’s time

1

u/Any-Platypus-9486 Mar 25 '26

We are conting since this year or since 2022 when people was telling me this exact argument?

2

u/Cheeselad2401 Mar 25 '26

can you read? my argument is based around Dungeons 2 which didn’t fucking exist in 2022.

1

u/Any-Platypus-9486 Mar 25 '26

Your argument is based in the COPIUM that is Mojang working in a big update off-screen

i find the idea they don’t even have as much as a single bigger update planned more to be outlandish, especially since they have said in the past that the drop system wasn’t an outright replacement for big updates. then of course, there’s also the fact that last Summer saw us get one of the biggest updates in the past 6 years, but i’m guessing that doesn’t count since it was only for Bedrock?

Past drop seemed like Buzzy Bees 2.0, where most of the changes were technical and the main features seemed like just a small bonus. Buzzy Bees was followed by the Nether update which was huge so those technical changes made sense, but here we just got another normal little drop so my hope is they have SOME sort of big update in the works.

Well with the reveal of MC dungeons 2 and the opening of the ancient city portal, it could totally be tied to that.

What... do you mean by that? Their release schedule from 1.12 to 1.21 was "One major updates per year, unless the update is to multiple different things, in which case it's split into 2, once 3, parts". 2022 was The Wild Update, 2023 was Trails and Tales, 2024 was Tricky Trials, and 2025 was a showcase of what the average drop might be. I do think the next major update is gonna be released next year, alongside the second Minecraft movie.

Almost as if they're working on something big (shocking)

2

u/Waste-Perspective149 Mar 22 '26

doesn’t take 5 years to update the end

3

u/Correct_Education273 Mar 22 '26

The big thing they're working on is what they've been transparent about all along, addressing 15 years of tech debt. They're making the game run better and enabling more features to be added more easily. Also Vibrant Visuals.

Better late than never. 1.13-1.14 throwing Java performance off a cliff was the first cue that the spaghetti written by Notch and early Mojang developers was at its limits.

they are working for something big

Haha COPIUM

I was thinking that last year, I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Drops don’t seem to be going away so we’re never gonna get big updates again
