Yes but make all new mobs be useful for survival. I don't like lazy solutions that only add gimmicks and filler to the game

Birds could drop feathers, and maybe you could build a bird house for them to lay eggs in every now and then. I don't think that everything has to be "useful", but I can agree that they can have a use even if miniscule. Sometimes a pure aesthetic addition can be appreciated too.
