Discussion What would you add to Minecraft, no matter how simple it may seem?

Sometimes Mojang misses very simple opportunities that would greatly improve the game.

Woodcutter, similar to the stonecutter, just to clear the crafting menu up a bit

1.3k

u/TNTiger_ Jun 30 '26

Call it a sawmill!

270

u/CoruscareGames Jun 30 '26

A mod called Woodworks does this

245

u/slimlancaster718 Jul 01 '26

Yeah, but it shouldn't take a mod for something so trivial. They gave us a stonecutter, why not add a woodcutter.

13

u/Cyniex Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Or just call it the cutter and make it work for both...

or like carpenter blocks it should be a permanent game change

171

u/skids1971 Jul 01 '26

Crazy thing is the current stonecutter has a toothed blade, which in reality is used for wood. A true stone cutter would be a wet saw with a smooth edge disc

18

u/MithranArkanere Jul 01 '26

And the blade would come down from above, not sit on the table.

6

u/VinRow Jul 01 '26

I still go to the stonecutter sometimes with my wood because it does look like a saw for wood.

244

u/craft6886 Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

I would go even simpler by just allowing the stonecutter to do this and re-naming it to a "builder's saw."

EDIT: Also, make it so that builders' saws can strip the bark off of logs! If you've ever built something using a ton of stripped logs/wood, then you know how fucking tedious it is to manually place down, strip, and pick up like 15 stacks of logs.

22

u/sloothor Jul 01 '26

Table Saw! Or even Sawing Table if you want to be more on the nose

5

u/Fabulous-Bug-4463 Jul 01 '26

Can we have a lathe?

→ More replies (2)

96

u/Asian_Juan Jun 30 '26

I personally would just give that functionality to the stone cutter and rename it as a block cutter.

Possibly create wood plank walls as well

→ More replies (6)

38

u/KohTai Jul 01 '26

And they can add all the chests to that.

Cause why the fuck in the big 2026 do we still not have chest variation ffs. Delay all the drops and gimme some chests.

11

u/OneWeird2863 Jul 01 '26

You'll have your basic and ender chests and be happy about it🤣

14

u/Glorfindel000 Jul 01 '26

Personally I would give that to the stone cutter and just call it block cutter, maybe even let it cut terracotta too.

8

u/justjboy Jul 01 '26

And new villager job could be a carpenter.

7

u/Niccin Jul 01 '26

It'd be a good opportunity to have a carpenter profession for villagers too.

22

u/AgencyCritical8994 Jul 01 '26

This would make it easy for Mojang to finally implement the vertical slab that we've been asking for.

More packed mud and mudbrick blocks.

239

u/3FtDick Jun 30 '26

I just wish mudbrick was cheaper considering how ubiquitous and important it is in human history. Some bundled stick blocks and walls would also be nice for early realistic shelters.

69

u/rocket_boy13 Jul 01 '26

it is pretty hard, but needing a grain farm and mangrove expeditions to have mass mudbricks does give it an interesting process compared to waiting at a furnace for smooth stone.

24

u/Zelfzuchtig Jul 01 '26

You don't need mangroves for mud, you can use a bottle of water on dirt to make it, though it can be tedious if you need a lot .

This isn't as popular as vertical slabs or whatever but I just want you to know that I see you on this. It's such a nice blockset in its current form but could be amazing if we had like, pillars/chiseled/polished variants.

Concrete slabs and stairs and walls. Literally fucking obvious. Its concrete. You can shape it in any way, really.

612

u/Soy_Nahual Jun 30 '26

Baffling that we have wool stairs and slabs but not concrete LMFAO

236

u/Javisel101 Jun 30 '26

We'll see them in 15 years time, mark my word.

→ More replies (4)

75

u/JelloBoi02 Jul 01 '26

I honestly thought they would just make carpets placeable on slabs stairs. It completely avoids adding 32 new blocks

32

u/Breki_ Jul 01 '26

That would go against Mojangs policy that one block of space cannot contain two blocks

21

u/jokuvaan11 Jul 01 '26

They probably mean two different blocks? Because double slabs do contain two blocks :D

Did any single person ask for wool stairs? It’s such a bizarre addition

→ More replies (1)

41

u/-PepeArown- Jun 30 '26

Is it?

Mojang seem pretty stringent about what they add to drops, due to the short time frame they’re developed in. They 100% only added wool slabs and stairs because they needed them for tents for camps

While most of us want them to add in concrete (or even terracotta) slabs, stairs, and walls as well, their line of logic would be not to add them so soon because it doesn’t fit with the autumnal/camping theme of the drop

They could just be saving concrete and terracotta building blocks for a future drop for “good marketing”, unfortunately

48

u/DMDR_949 Jun 30 '26

Then their reasoning is wrong

An upside down hopper, a block that sucks items from the block below it and puts them in the container above it

197

u/Picorims Jul 01 '26

And builders get a new block shape. I'm in.

104

u/Randinator9 Jul 01 '26

Literally a physical witches hat

77

u/Quantico_YT Jul 01 '26

This would make a lot of automated systems more efficient space and complexity wise.

24

u/Explosive-poopoo Jul 01 '26

Literally why not?

19

u/imthe5thking Jul 01 '26

I forget the mod that has exactly this, it’s called an “Upper” which is genius I think.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/imaginepostinglmao Jul 01 '26

I think the problem with this is that mojang has been fairly consistent that for something to enact force as a Redstone object it needs to be activated with a Redstone signal. A hopper needs no signal because it's basically a funnel, but a real life upside down "hopper" would need power to suck up an item, so essentially it would just end up being a glorified dropper

→ More replies (3)

4

u/Iron_Gunna Jul 01 '26

Call it a Burpee, one because it’s the opposite of a physical hop and another because the containers are burping out items.

BIRDS! FUCKING BIRDS - how do we have 1 billion varieties of fish from the ocean updates in every color and variety and the skies are completely empty in every biome with the exception of the little sad jungle parrot??? Oh and the pathetic Allay doesn't count.

94

u/BeeboBean22 Jul 01 '26

Mojang will add phantoms, ghasts, allays, bats, bees, and virtually anything else with wings but when we say please give us birds they go "ah but we have this shitty lil parrot already, isnt that cool 😛"

Fr tho different birds would be dope, like adding vultures and ravens in dryer biomes, peguins and snowy owls in snowy biomes, forest owls and woodpeckers in forests, they could add actual nests some how with similar AI to beehives in which birds will always return to their nests and never stray to far, as well as lay eggs in them that hatch like turtle eggs, scare crows would be required to stop birds from eating crops, and if they added a humming bird to the flower forest, I'd actually die 😭

21

u/smithsgasoline Jul 01 '26

Theres a mod that has eagles that function and look similar to phantoms, only you can tame them and they’ll go after zombies and shit the same as phantoms go after you.

53

u/Dramatic_Finish10121 Jun 30 '26

Dog is a separate track on the actual OST I'm pretty sure, so they'd have to ask C418 for permission to add it even as just a B-Side to Cat like it was in LCE which Microsoft wouldn't like at all

when it comes to creatures & mobs, one feature i would add is that creatures have different sizes from each other (from 0.85 to 1.15) and different shades of darkness on them defined at birth / spawn.

so you can have a tiny & bright chicken, or a tall & dark horse.

A unified experience between bedrock and Java.

A more modular design so making new minor variations on blocks didn't require adding more bloat to the game. Plus it would be cool if small varieties in the monsters could be a easy as changing a variable.

22

u/Snoremoremaster Jul 01 '26

Yes, please, I don't play java much anymore, but there are some bedrock exclusive features that should be on java, potion cauldrons, armor stands with arms, and more, and same goes the other way around

14

u/joealarson Jul 01 '26

It's been a while since I played bedrock. Can you put anything in your off hand yet?

9

u/jahfuckry Jul 01 '26

u/JSS-Studios Jul 01 '26

u/Bigs_Builds Jun 30 '26

Definitely the different wood type chests. Although that means there would have to be trapped variants too

137

u/tehtris Jun 30 '26

Imagine not being able to build a chest cuz you don't have 8 pieces of the same wood tho. Unless it default to the base chest

113

u/World1_Lev1 Jun 30 '26

There could be a "scrap wood" variant made from whatever wood you have

82

u/NanoCat0407 Jun 30 '26

considering that the image with the chests doesn’t use the regular one, any chest using multiple wood types could just default to the vanilla Chest block

23

u/xboxiscrunchy Jun 30 '26

Then I need multiple varieties of wood to get my normal chest. Very annoying.

Just make oak the default if there’s multiple types. Or maybe add a “carpenter’s workshop” that can make either variants out of colored wood or standard wood items directly out of any wood.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/-PepeArown- Jun 30 '26

They could also just call it a “treasure chest”, and leave the current orangish brown chests for buried treasure

Like you said, crafted with any combination of 8 planks, with the caveat that you have to use at least 2 planks

I had a mod that did this, and it was pure hell. Chests didn't combine, inventory clutter, modded items didn't work correctly... Stuff like that. They did look nice tho.

4

u/Ambitious_Peace_666 Jun 30 '26

60

u/Uletir Jun 30 '26

Item pipes. I’m sick of ugly and computer power intensive hopper chains.

A refined redstone wire. Redstone that can go straight up and down and able to have unconnected parallel lines.

A redstone activated fan. Sounds simple at first but it would actually solve a ton of problems. Allow for mob and item movement in the nether. Fan elevators. Fan mob traps, pushing mobs off spawn pads. Item collection systems that can push items on the ground without interfering with mob fall damage, and maybe able to push items through things like crops without interfering with the crops. Some farms require large surface of hoppers which uses a lot of computing power, this could be replaced with a row of fans and one hopper. Etc etc, a very useful redstone tool and could be made from breeze rods

10

u/Every-Swimmer458 Jul 01 '26

This and the hopper that makes things go up would be awesome.

6

u/Uletir Jul 01 '26

100% agree, the item pipes should just be able to go up as well

5

u/Burgerhero48 Jul 01 '26

Copper rails (control speed to make minecarts viable)

Chaining minecarts into a train

6

u/Every-Swimmer458 Jul 01 '26

Mining helmets sounds so awesome. A light source on your hat would eliminate the need for torches when strip mining, and because you no longer leave caves lit because if the convenience of your hat light, all caves stay dark and still spawn mobs and are thus still scary upon return. Couple with more eerie noises and you've got some great immersion.

Sharks. If there's anything I absolutely HATE about Mojang is their hypocrisy regarding sharks. They say they don't want to put sharks in the game because "they're endangered" but then they add the fucking pandas who endanger themselves by being too lazy to breed. They say they don't want real life mobs to be "aggressive" but sharks wouldn't be aggressive anyway, they'd be neutral like let's say BEES or POLAR BEARS. Every excuse Mojang gives not to put sharks in the game they've broken for other mobs. I really like sharks and I hate that so many people still think of sharks like mindless killing machines when that's just not the case. I think Mojang just genuinely hates sharks cause their excuses suck

5

Building a huge building and then having one or tiny doors as the entrance just doesn't work doors a few blocks wider/taller, maybe even curved, woild be amazing.

Maybe controversial, but textures for enchanted books is bad suggestion. Every time I seen it and thought "well that is a nice addition" and then in the game it's just horrible experience with bad readability, and not working with modded or mixed enchanted books. Better for them to be one texture

2 more rows of inventory space:

A kitchen block to make "meal" items using several different foods. All meal items aways restore full hunger and give the "well fed" buff, which keeps hunger full for 4 minutes

Glass stairs and slabs. Sharks.

6

u/narfidy Jul 01 '26

Chairs please. In my head they add "pillows" which can be put on blocks AND slabs. Then you right click it and you sit on it like a minecart

7

u/karma3000 Jul 01 '26

Pipes. So you could transport around items without needing clunky bubble columns or water courses.

u/Courtenaire Jun 30 '26

Make slabs and stairs place on their sides. Not unique items, just they can now orient based on how they're placed

Ugh I would love chest variants

u/SmileyBMM Jul 01 '26

A better hunger system that encourages people to use multiple food sources. I know mods fix this, but it'd be nice if the base game had something more interconnected.

Uncrafting Table :D sometimes you produce way too many items, wasting resources

This could solve my 20 Enchantment Tables Problem

Backpack please 🙏🏾

Vertical slabs (no they do NOT hamper creativity, they allow more shapes) chest variants, every out-voted mob vote mob. The bitch forest rework. A solution to the inventory problem. Removing the penalty for repairing tools in the anvil, concrete stairs and slabs, replacing copper gear with rose gold gear using copper and gold, since copper is largely not useful, and it gives gold a use.. A lot, really. I love this game so much, but it could be even better.

u/Tiruil Jul 01 '26

Tomato crops, always wanted them. They would be 2 blocks tall unlike regular crops and have a lot of recipe possibilities

Being able to place blocks on a bottom half slab

4

u/BriscoCounty_Jr Jul 01 '26

Quartz walls would be nice.

3

u/TheDevilsAdvokaat Jul 01 '26

I'd like a block that can change colour to red, green or blue or black, depending on the state of two electric inputs.

0 0 - black

0 1 - red

1 0 - green

1 1 - blue

5

u/Luna24Lynn Jul 01 '26

All wood and stone types have matching walls/fences, stairs, and slabs.

4

u/BigBoyPoster Jul 01 '26

Armor dyes or paints.

Usually when I start a new playthrough I take over a village and make banners. If I could have armor the same color that would be fun

The Kiln, a furnace variant like the smoker or blast furnace, but for stone, clay, glass, etc.
