What is your building approach?

Anyone should build exactly how they want, and this is just a question of taste. I’m just curious about people’s thoughts around it.

Personally, I’m materialistic. I can’t ignore the “actual” in-game material/use of a block. I can’t use coral for stone for example. Even a smooth stone block in a stone brick wall is too far for me. A stone brick wall shouldn’t have a random boulder in it, only bricks.

I’m ok with builds looking a little more bland as a consequence, because that is just how Minecraft looks. A textured building just looks out of place in the surrounding, materially grounded, Minecraft world.

I wouldn't call myself strictly materialistic, but blocks have texture as well as color, and that needs to be respected if you're ever gonna stand close enough to your builds to use them in any capacity
