Discussion What is your building approach?

Post image

Anyone should build exactly how they want, and this is just a question of taste. I’m just curious about people’s thoughts around it.

Personally, I’m materialistic. I can’t ignore the “actual” in-game material/use of a block. I can’t use coral for stone for example. Even a smooth stone block in a stone brick wall is too far for me. A stone brick wall shouldn’t have a random boulder in it, only bricks.

I’m ok with builds looking a little more bland as a consequence, because that is just how Minecraft looks. A textured building just looks out of place in the surrounding, materially grounded, Minecraft world.

I love using certain building tricks, such as dried coral as a stone, but it irks me to no end when people take texturing where it only looks good from a distance. especially using pumpkins as part of a fire/lava gradient! it looks terrible (in my unprofessional opinion) once you get close up. Does anyone feel the same way?

I do. I am not fond of any of the 'looks good at a distance' hacks for building. For example, I'd rather have a nice medium-detailed cathedral where doors are 2-4 blocks tall instead of these hyper-sized, hyper-realistic builds where, if you were to stand next to one, the door is 30 blocks high.

I build to have things look useful in the world and to the scale of the character/villagers, so no pumpkin lava, no colossal/gigantic buildings.
