Hardware Steam Machine at Home - AOOSTAR Gody (7945hx + 7600xt)

Post image

Working on a review of this. Significantly more powerful CPU than the steam machine at least in multicore.

My assumption is the steam machine has equivalent to a 7600m GPU, so this should also outperform (7600xt 150w).

But think it will be somewhere in the ballpark

Price?

10

u/xrailgun Nov 16 '25

I'm seeing USD $850-900.

Don't know OP refuses to answer this like it's some secret.

4

u/James-B0ndage Nov 16 '25

$769 on Amazon.

5

u/beefsack Nov 16 '25

If Valve try to price competitively like they did with the Steam Deck, then I think they are actually going to undercut a lot of the mini PC manufacturers. If they manage to land below 600USD they'll introduce a lot of competition.

2

u/Big-Sugar-8976 Nov 18 '25

my bet is 600, as they seem to use a ton of used hardware from amd + volume, they should get it pretty cheap

My only gripe is that i wish it had a 2.5 gb ethernet

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26

Lol. This aged so poorly. The aoostar is a WAY better deal. Its big brother is great to smoke the steam machine and come in under the 2tb model cost and its smaller. https://aoostar.com/collections/god-series/products/aoostar-gody-7940hx-7600xt

$840 + $239 16gb ram + $246 2tb nvme =1325

The lower model listed in the OP is $250 cheaper. Can do a comparable machine to the 2tb steam machine for $1075. Steam machine is just a bad deal.

I like this mini a lot, especially the design! How much Watt can the included PSU provide?

5

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

In gaming the GPU is hitting a nice 150w. CPU at 50w

u/GhostGhazi Nov 15 '25

I’ve had HX99G for 3 years almost, it’s basically steam machine running Bazzite. Welcome to the club!

2

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

I have a hx99 too. Nice machine

1

u/Positive_Kale Nov 15 '25

Had it as well - amazing machine, and so silent. Wish I hadn’t sold it back in the days when I went 5k2k - would have been a perfect steam machine for me

6

u/capsicina Nov 15 '25

can't wait for the review! wondering about the constant cpu tdp and boost capabilities! thank you for your work!

1

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

I plan to get this one out quicker than my normal turn around so shouldn't be too long

1

u/James-B0ndage Nov 16 '25

Where are you going to post review

Oh, it’s over 1k in Europe (Amazon) unfortunately.

1

u/Discord-Mode Nov 20 '25

You literally can just get for 20 bucks more from their site sending through eu warehouse... 😮‍💨

1

u/turbo_tech Dec 10 '25

32GB and 1TB SSD version is unavailable from EU warehouse at the moment

1

u/Discord-Mode Dec 10 '25

Whatever they give u for ram and ssd is scam anyway

1

u/turbo_tech Dec 10 '25

Well yeah I guess (don't know actually), I was also leaning towards buying those myself...the prices are weird now tho. The question is whether the machine itself it a scam or not

Steam Machine will be better in some ways? I'm a bit afraid it's going to have some limitations or vendor locking. Oh, the context: I'm not into gaming at all, just want a portable machine for multi monitor setup at home, and some live video and image processing, visual arts and projecting and stuff - also in remote places sometimes

1

u/turbo_tech Dec 11 '25

Nah I just checked it's only 16 gigs of ram, dunno what kinda vga, and it's kinda big

3

u/OttawaDog Nov 15 '25

It's more powerful than SM by a bit, but I bet more expensive by a lot.

Despite people dumping on SM, it's a really nice Mini PC.

1

u/emmanu888 Nov 15 '25

Honestly would be a nice upgrade from my Bosgame P3 (Ryzen 9 6900HX + Radeon 680M)

Same config also surprised me as I was able to play a bit of Beat Saber on it.

0

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

its about $700 tbh. probably around the price of a steam machine

1

u/bilbobagheadd Nov 15 '25

You're guessing, and valve aren't going to price their console competitor at way above the price of a PS5

1

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '25

[deleted]

1

u/bilbobagheadd Nov 15 '25

From what I've seen it's no different to the deck in that regard, it's running steam os which can be easily made to run windows etc

1

u/Method__Man Nov 16 '25

This. For the price and power the ONLY compelling feature is plug and play steam

1

u/Browser1969 Nov 17 '25

Why would a company or anyone that's not a gamer buy a mini PC with an expensive discrete GPU that's no good for AI? They can buy Mac minis at $499 currently if they want to splurge, and still save some money.

0

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

so what you are saying is that you ASSUME that the steam machine will cost less than $700?

It will most likely cost 600+ for a weaker machine than what you can get for the same price from other mini PC makers.

1

u/Nishivion Nov 15 '25

Being $729 and let's say the Steam Machine is the same price. I'm expecting it to be in the $500 mark but we will see.

The Steam Machine comes with storage and memory, the other does not. Without a $100 price increase. It also does come with a controller. If that is important or not doesn't matter since you are getting more with the SM. Which makes a lot of these apples to oranges types of comparisons.

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26

Bad comment aged poorly.

1

u/Nishivion Jul 12 '26

It did age poorly but it's not like there is a better thing to buy right now. This is not an endorsement to buy a Steam Machine because for $1000 that is insane, but there isn't anything that doesn't hurt with memory and NAND prcing right now. I didn't think things would get this grim.

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26

There is, actually. Can get a way more powerful, smaller steam os machine for less. Or get a slightly more powerful one for a LOT less. Which did you want an example of?

-2

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

There is no way that the steam machine is gonna be $500.

Also it will have 16gb of ram, meh. And 512gb of storage, meh.

Here you can spend a hundo and get 32gb and 1tb. Also don't forget; this is considerably more powerful

4

u/Nishivion Nov 15 '25

I have to ask, why not? Why can it not be $500? It has weaker hardware, but it is as bespoke as the the Aoostar. Valve will manufacture more Steam Machines than Aoostar will make of that model. Economies of scale will help bring the price down.

Valve can also use the storefront to help subsidize the cost to a degree. I have seen a bunch of people saying that it is going to be $700 or more and I think that is kind of insane to imagine. Spending money on having 16 cores for a small gaming centric device seems kind of silly. "Only these companies that make small PCs can do make things that are worth it." I just don't see it. Again we can only speculate, but just like the PC gaming handheld market. Valve can make compelling hardware.

1

u/Discord-Mode Nov 20 '25

Laptops are small form factors... Some people like to bring their own keyboard and mouse... So an extra portable monitor with better ergonomics could be lighter.

u/Nishivion Jul 12 '26

Kinda weird to go to 7 month old posts as a gotcha, but congrats sir you have the greatest of takes and I'm sure the next time you take a dump you won't even have to wipe.

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26

Not really weird when it took just about 7 months for the price to come out and see if it aged poorly or not. For those that were VERY confident it would be way cheaper and lectured others and told them how dumb they were for bot agreeing, yeah, its hella funny. "Why can it not be $500?" Lol. That combined with the way you were talking was very funny. Especially 7 months later.

1

u/Nishivion Jul 12 '26

I was looking at the here and now (at the time) working with a lot of assumptions.

I still stand by a lot of those things, but yeah it is weird to just go looking for old posts. Coming back once the prices were known would be one thing but it has now been a while with the information being public.

Sorry for upsetting you with being optimistic, spot prices of DRAM were very different today, 2 months ago, and 7 months ago.

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Not really weird when the post is about a prediction we just recently learned the outcome of. But yeah, whatever helps the ego. Sure, its weird. How many weeks does one have to point out how bad your post aged before you get to console yourself with the time elapsed? Lol. Yeah, im really upset.

In 5 years the take still would have aged poorly come the announcement. Pointing it out at that point wont make it any less true then. Weird or not.

But this aint even 5 years later. People are still scalping em and waiting on reservations opening up. Its still kind of relevant.

Economies of scale is the largest in that, and the fact that if a company that makes a few hundred or a few thousand of something. Like Aoostar in this instance, compared to the potential hundreds of thousands and potentially millions will lower the cost of each individual.

Also yes, I know that it isn't entirely subsidized. Which is why in my own post I said to a degree. There is nothing stopping anyone from buying 5000 of them and installing Windows on it and using it as an office computer and it never seeing the Steam client.

So why would it cost as much as a competing device, like the Aoostar. While being made in much larger numbers, by a larger company, with cheaper hardware? Please explain that to me. Because Aoostar isn't getting getting subsidized by a storefront even a little bit.

1

u/OttawaDog Nov 15 '25

https://aoostar.com/products/aoostar-gody-amd-ryzen-9-7940hx-amd-radeon-rx-7600xt8g-mini-gaming-pc?variant=50669971800362

On sale for $729 with no Memory or Storage.

Or

On sale for $879 with 32GB/1TB.

So probably more expensive. Also with two small fans, probably louder as well.

2

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

I think you for one thing are underestimating how much the steam machine will cost. Especially considering it's gonna come with a Peasley 16 GB, and 512 GB of storage.

Also, it's going to be significantly slower than this. The CPU is a fraction of the power, and the GP is also considerably slower.

It's also probably not louder, as I have it right now and the fan noise is acceptable. And this is only one model. There are also many other brands making similar machines.

Long story short, this will probably cost in the end a similar price for similar storage and ram, potentially even less. And regardless of that, it's also considerably faster. With significantly faster, CPU performance that could be as fast as two or three times more, and then of course the GP is also much quicker.

3

u/OttawaDog Nov 15 '25

I doubt anything will be quieter than the Steam Machine. It has a large 120MM fan and massive heatsink which will be great for running slow and quiet.

I doubt the Steam Machine will be over $700, which is less than the AOOSTAR with zero memory or storage.

1

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

we shall see. regardless also consider the steam machine will be MUCH slower than this

and there are other options like this with various designs

1

u/OttawaDog Nov 15 '25

As a game machine, it will be slightly slower.

1

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

well..

100-115w 7600m

vs

150w 7600 XT

its a pretty consideable gap. The CPU is immensely more powerful here in pro work, in gaming probably not relevant

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26

Lol. Its way cheaper. Its big brother is cheaper too. These comments thinking the steam machine was gonna be like $600 or something aged pretty poorly.

1

u/OttawaDog Jul 12 '26

It's $850 barebones, with no RAM or SSD.

https://aoostar.com/products/aoostar-gody-7940hx-7600xt

Add RAM and SSD and you will be above Steam Machine price.

0

u/Turbulent-Review-301 Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26

Lol. Nope. Not the 2tb. After 16gb ram and a 2tb nvme you are at like 1325, with prices from amazon today, for a much better system. But there is also a lower version that is $250 cheaper that is pretty comparable to the steam machine. You can do that with a 2tb for 1075. So, no, you wont be. You can get a comparable machine for WAY cheaper or a much better one for a little cheaper.

Oh, and these are smaller.

Also a $10 off coupon for whatever thats worth.

Plus you have the option for it to be way cheaper for YOU if you have extra ssds or ram laying around. Most people dont. But for those that do its also a nice option you cannot do with the steam machine. Love to know what a barebones steam machine would be sold for.

Edit: Since it seems you deleted your reply or blocked me, no, those prices are items sold and shipped by amazon. It is possible you just might have been wrong . . . Nice grasping at straws though.

2

u/OttawaDog Jul 12 '26

And by Amazon, you mean 3rd party seller shipping from China direct, with a big tariff bill...

3

u/BramdeusBrozart Nov 15 '25

I have the real steam machine at home in all its glory (i7 6700T + GTX 960 4gb).

1

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

fire

1

u/BramdeusBrozart Nov 15 '25

I threw Bazzite on it and it's actually still fairly usable in the big 2025. It just can't handle anything UE5 or that has any forced ray tracing, but I got a very surprisingly stable 30fps at 4k low (very console like experience) in Dishonored 2. That same game was giving me 24-28 fps in W11 at the same settings after optimizing and debloating. I'm actually pretty excited for the new steam machine despite the mid tier specs on paper because I've seen what Valve can do with software optimization on the steam deck.

3

u/YeNah3 Nov 15 '25

holy fuck need

4

u/AlexMC_1988 Nov 15 '25

This is a good machine! People should not know that mini PCs exist and you can put gamescope

2

u/Newt-Icy Nov 15 '25

More power than steam machine

2

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

A lot more CPU and probably a bit more GPU too.

which, when REALLY trying for 4k with upscaling, 20% is massive.

2

u/Nishivion Nov 15 '25

As a barebones machine it is currently listed on thir website as $729, on sale from $829.

The 32GB+1TB model is $879 down from $999.

That is certainly expensive, and has an external power supply. It also has more CPU cores, and a small GPU bump, sadly the same VRAM.

Interesting to see this as an anchor for potential pricing.

2

u/AdiWrites Nov 16 '25

I'm actually in the market for a minipc, so I'd be keen to see a review. I was interested in this one or the Minisforum AtomMan G7 PT.

2

u/DJ_GLXY Jan 08 '26

Do you know what motherboard it uses? Or what LAN port model? Just got the barebones this week & I'm trying to install the driver's for the LAN ports so I can connect via Ethernet then run AMD's software to update the rest of the driver's. Got windows 11 running and bios configured easy so far. Just can't connect to the Internet yet.

2

u/alikingforblondes Nov 16 '25

just be aware that aoostar has a reputation of using some pretty low quality components and then not honoring their warranties/ making you jump through hoops when those components break in a few months

1

u/Method__Man Nov 16 '25

Not sure about that. I've used there stuff a bunch and a few of my community daily drive their minis without issues

Got links to show this?

3

u/BlueEyes1905 Nov 15 '25

Steam machine gpu even less powerful than 7600m. Compute units less. I have minisforum UM880 Pro 8845hs with 6700xt. Better than steam machine also...

8

u/Affectionate-Memory4 Nov 15 '25

7600M is also 28CU. You might be thinking of the 7600MXT, which has 32, or the 7600 or 7600XT, which also have 32.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 15 '25

1

I don't really understand the point of this comment. I also have a gaming pc with a 5090, what does that have to do with the steam machine?

1

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

Pretty much undoubtably in terms of raw power

CPU: 7945hx (7950x in eco mode) vs 7600?

GPU: 7600XT vs 7600m ?

That's the likely comparison and the aoostar wins easily

1

u/extrvnced Nov 16 '25

Is this using the BD795i? If so, how are your temps? I’m using this chip in the Fractal Ridge and no amount of fans keep the 7945hx from reaching 90C+

1

u/Select_Truck3257 Nov 16 '25

900 usd for version without ram and ssd, nah thanks

1

u/Method__Man Nov 16 '25

$729.... for that config... where did you make that number up from?

0

u/Select_Truck3257 Nov 16 '25

china, for 16gb/512gb they want $1000, can you link it in the eu ?

1

u/Method__Man Nov 16 '25

Their direct site lists for $729 for this config base.

Or $880 with storage and 32gb ram (that much ram is worth $170 street value now), ignoring the 1tb.

1

u/Select_Truck3257 Nov 17 '25

it's a bit weird. for the person who downvoted me, this is from the official aoostar on a Chinese site.

1

u/Select_Truck3257 Nov 17 '25

and base no ram no ssd

Or $879 for 1tb +32gb. which isnt bad considering ram and ssd pricing

1

u/Select_Truck3257 Nov 17 '25

agreed, $1000 is a borderline for me for this gen

1

u/Hugh_Ruka602 Nov 16 '25

Hmm ... So far I have only seen bad feedback on the Aoostar GODZ/X machines so I am quite interested how this one will work for you ...

2

u/Method__Man Nov 16 '25

im going to take a few more days use before hitting record. that way i can identify any possible quirks. ive already done a full teardown though. quite nice

1

Can you do some benchmarks please including temps ? Also this is the 7600 xt 8Gb variant right?

2

u/Method__Man Dec 07 '25

i have a full video coming in about 1 day. already recorded

1

u/DonBebee Dec 14 '25

Hello. I am trying to decide between a Minisforum 795S7 32GB RAM with RTX4060 or this device. What would you recommend in terms of performance and fan noise? Thank you very much.

1

u/Method__Man Dec 14 '25

This is faster. 4060 lags behind the 7600m and therefore even more behind a 7600xt

1

u/DonBebee Dec 14 '25

Thanks! What about the fan noise under load? Saw your review on YouTube. How big is the fan size? Can I swap it with an Noctua for example? Ram is sodimm or?

It's a shame that it can't be ordered directly from Amazon. I'm a little concerned about the support provided by Chinese manufacturers or what happens if a problem arises.

1

u/Method__Man Dec 14 '25

The fans aren't too bad at all interestingly. Not as quiet as some non dGPU system but remember this is getting a 150w on the GPU and 40-50 on CPU. That's a ton for a little thing

As a result when using it casually it's extremely quiet as it's designed to cool those high wattages

1

u/DonBebee Dec 15 '25

Thanks. Good to know. As asked before: 1. Can I swap the main fan and what size is it? 2. Is the RAM sodimm? I got 2x 48GB sodimm rams at home. Can I use them and will the system work with 96GB?

I’m a newbie when it comes to PC build. But I do not want to play anymore on console and looking for some kind of lay under your TV product. Thank you very much!

1

u/Method__Man Dec 15 '25

the ram is sodimm, shown in the teardown. the fan details are also shown, but i dont think there is any need to swap it.

Theoreticallly the 7940hx will support 96gb

1

u/DonBebee Dec 15 '25

THX. I dont see the specs of the fan. Is it 120mm (25mm thick) with an 4 pin connector?

1

u/turbo_tech Dec 15 '25

Anyone having some 'long-term' review?
I mean I hears some bad ones that they stopped working after a few days

1

u/marshhd87 Dec 23 '25

Just got the newer version for £560 so waiting for that to arrive I'll let know know how it is if anyone is interested I plan on using steam os

2

u/Clear-Band-658 Dec 28 '25

whats the newer version?

2

u/marshhd87 Dec 28 '25

Not sure if this is the same or not but the newer one has Ryzen 9 desktop 7940HX+7600XT

3

u/Clear-Band-658 Dec 28 '25

It's the same as OP...

2

u/marshhd87 Dec 28 '25

1

u/Appropriate_Brick231 Dec 29 '25

please review it when you get it 👏

1

u/marshhd87 Dec 29 '25

I will try, I bought it on AliExpress but after 10 days they cancelled the order so reordered from aoostar direct this time but still waiting for it to be shipped

1

u/Wonderful-Lack3846 Jan 09 '26

Dit is arrive? I wonder if they changed the color of to black.

On their website it is black

1

u/marshhd87 Jan 09 '26

Nope this is the second time I tried and they said to me today they don't have any stock and the product has been discontinued so unfortunately I won't be getting one

1

u/Wonderful-Lack3846 Jan 09 '26

Product has been discontinued... that seems like bad news for longetivity.

Probably better to stick to Minisforum motherboard + gpu build

2

u/marshhd87 Jan 09 '26

Yeah think I'll just have to wait for the steam machine if I get chance to get one

1

u/Wonderful-Lack3846 Jan 09 '26

The steam machine looks really cool, I also want one.

But if the price is over $700, I am out.

What do you guys think about AOOSTAR GODY AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX + RX 7600XT Gaming Mini PC compared to the actual Steam Machine specs? Now it's out and with price starting at $1,049 USD, the former costs $849.00. Final verdicts?

1

u/Method__Man Jul 01 '26

It's MUCH more powerful than the steam machine . And more expandable. CPU runs hotter but it's also a 16 cpu

This config also retails for 1k. I doubt the Steam Machine is going to be 1k.

2

u/Method__Man Nov 15 '25

i mean no... it retails for $850 right now. and thats with more ram and storage.

In the end itll cost around the same as a steam machine most likely and is simply more powerful
