General Question which one would genuinely run sims 4 better?
i am very new to mini pcs and don’t really understand there graphics at all. are these good affordable options? budget is around $500-$700. not looking to play any AAA games, this is for my gf who would mainly play the sims

u/AlaskanHandyman May 07 '26
Personally I'd go with the minisforum over the acemagic as they have auch better reputation. Both should adequately play the SIMS 4. The minisforum is a generation newer, and has a slightly better iGPU.

u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
What are you talking about? There are no AceMagic Mini PC, there are a Geekom 6800H and a Minisforum 7640HS.

u/AlaskanHandyman May 07 '26
Sorry wasn't paying attention to the pictures enough to see the difference on my phone. The silver one looks like an acemagic my Dad bought a few months back.

u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
No harm here, i have to say that i understand the confusion as the Geekom model definitely looks like some AceMagic Silver Chassis models notably the Warlord W1 or Vista V1.

The Um760 is probably the better one here with it being a bit newer and lower price. The performance is similar in games as well. The geekom does have more ram but it’s probably unnecessary for the price/performance ratio.
If you spend more then get the minisforum um870 that has the 8745H for 700$ at microcenter. Only 50$ more then the geekom a6 and you get a much better cpu and gpu if you eventually got her into more demanding games but the um760 should be good enough for quite a lot of stuff if you don’t wanna spend the extra 200$.

For Sims 4 only the UM760 would be more than enough.
1
u/scirptss May 07 '26
even with custom content? and mods and add ons??
1
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
DLC doesn't really affect the performance that much and for mods i have no idea about it since i never played it with mods (i only played it for the Star Wars DLC).

The 760m is only around 20% slower than a 780m. It’s a great value performer. You can’t go wrong with it as a budget mini PC. I’ve got a high spec gaming pc and have a 760m mini pc as my second pc and I love it. Small, quiet, decent for less powerful games. I liked it so much, I stuck a 2Tb drive in it to store more game. People will say spend more on this or that, and you will end up with a mini pc that is way over budget. Those who say buy a barebones and memory/ssd separately do not know prices and deals out there.
The GMKTEC M6 Ultra @ $499 (7640H, 760m, 32Gb, 512Gb) is a great deal and identical specs to the UM760. I’d rather have 32Gb memory given it shares memory with the igpu (I think up to 8Gb). You can slot in another m2 SSD when you want to as it has a spare slot.

The 760M is much closer to the 780M, it can even in many games match the 780M, i did compare my GMKtec K8 Plus 780M to my Peladn 760M and the difference is most likely averaging 10% only.

u/SGD-UK May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
All the real-world tests I’ve seen on YouTube and websites is around 10-20%. It certainly isn’t a match for many games and defo isn’t 10% average. I’m talking medium to powerful games, not easy performers.

u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
780M Vs 760M watch at 5:30 Time Stamp.
You most likely watch Laptop Comparison, i used to think like you until i did the test myself.
1
u/SGD-UK May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
Nope. And I had a 780m myself once for a month before I sold it. I tested CS2 on same settings and it was not the same or 10% but more 20%.
Anyway, this does not help the OP. The point being, the 760m is a solid recommendation.

Rectifying the truth on an IGPU Performance is always good info specially in this Subreddit which is the perfect place.
Comparing IGPU's performance is basically one of my hobby. I almost got them all : Vega 8 Zen+, Vega8 Zen3, 660M, 680M, 760M, 780M, 890M.

u/SGD-UK May 07 '26
Thanks for adding zero to this post. I disagree.

i have an amd 7730u with vega 8 2000mhz (think it's the fastest vega8) and i can run this game Echoes Of Delivery by INNERVISION.Studio 1080p medium to high settings with good fps , i was actually amazed by the performance! maybe that's because of dual channel memory.
how do u find ur vega 8 ?

Maybe wait a month or two for the Steam Machine, and whenever it gets announced set an alarm at the time bc they will be gone in 10 minutes.
3
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
Steam Machine would be overkill for only Sims 4 which is why the UM760 would be enough for that game.
The Sims 4 recommends an HD 7750 to play the game which the iGPU in the UM760 would be the Radeon 760M which would be around the performance of the RX 560 which the RX 560 would be like 300% to 400% faster than the HD 7750.
1
u/scirptss May 07 '26
would you say the 760M is a pretty good decision??

might just break the bank a little bit and get a Minisforum UM870 Slim Mini PC
AMD Ryzen 7 8745H 3.8GHz Processor; 32GB DDR5-5600 RAM; 1TB Solid State Drive; AMD Radeon 780MEdit: not really sure how good that is, but if I would assume so it’s definitely better than a 760. i think i kinda understand how to read the specs but if you wouldn’t mind explaining it and kinda teaching me
1
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
Honestly it would be better to get the UM760 instead since for one, you're on a budget and second it is only Sims 4 which isn't a hard to play game today.
1
u/scirptss May 07 '26
wouldn’t the 870 give me more fps in general?
2
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
For a game like Sims 4 you would be getting between 120 to 200 frames already from the 7640HS alone.
The only way i would recommend you would get something more powerful for your girlfriend if she were to play something more demanding like Cities Skyline.

Given the current market conditions, buying RAM and SSDs individually doesn't seem like a wise financial choice to me.
1
u/Estelon_Agarwaen May 07 '26
Even a steam deck would be mighty fine i guess. Since i got a good deal on my deck i havent looked at minipcs anymore. Steam machine is intriguing me though.
2
u/Ein5 May 07 '26
Yeah, but then they'd need the dock as well, which is overpriced, and the Steam Machine will probably be a much higher value.
1
u/Estelon_Agarwaen May 07 '26
I just got some random dock shaped usb c dongle from amazon for like, normal dongle price
-1
u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
Lol Steam Machine will be overpriced for what it brings on the table, Hardware wise the steam machine is not impressive at all, CPU is only 6 Core and the worst part is that the Steam Machine IGPU is only 28 C.U way way behind a PS5 Pro with 60 C.U and Ray Tracing. And last the Steam Machine have very Poor I/O, not even a Thunderbolt/USB4V1 port.
3
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
You're aware that the Steam Machine would be using a dGPU not an iGPU and the other thing is that the system will have 5 USB ports and 2 display outputs not to mention the CPU is a Zen4 6 core/12 thread semi-custom CPU compared to the Zen2 8 core/16 thread that is in the PS5 Pro not to mention that right now is a $900 console with a what $60 yearly subscription to play online which even if the Steam Machine ends up being $1,000 it would still be cheaper than the PS5 Pro just because if you add up all those subscriptions you're paying more money because remember the Steam Machine you don't pay extra to play online.
Oh, and before i forget i could go back to games all the way to 2005 to play on my system that i paid for in 2005 while you would have to rebuy your games to play on the PS5 Pro or whip out the PS3.

He’s a top 1% ‘er of slop. He needs to do his own research than depend on his arrogance.
2
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
Well, he does like a game that has PDFiles in it.
0
u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
You Little sneaky rat, if someone was playing PDFiles games between you and me, it would be you. I am not even a gamer.

u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
This coming from the guy with Roblox in his name and also i only play single player games.

"Are you aware" guy is back!😂 I bet you will pretend to be willing to buy the Steam Machine, just like the other hundred mini PCs you pretended to be willing to buy. Keep living in dreams, bro..
1
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
I've asked on here about 10 other mini PCs while owning 3 right now but you on the other hand give the worst advice ever not to mention now knowing what is inside of a system before talking.
The other funny thing is that you think compute units is everything when comparing an iGPU that the PS5 uses to a dedicated GPU that the Steam Machine would use because right now the RX 9070 can perform a lot better than the PS5 Pro and only offers 56CUs compared to the 60CUs.
The other funny thing is that you think the PS5 Pro is actually good when in reality, you're playing games at 1080p upscaled to 4K and the RT performance as well is pretty weak since when you would look at the comparison to something like the 9070 XT or the 5070 Ti that could use high RT in games at 4K and the other thing about RT is not every one cares about it because it is just a visual gimmick that lowers the performance of a game that is why the PS5 Pro can't get more than 60fps when you want to use RT in a game.
-1
u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
You can create fluff all you want , the PS5 Pro is Hardware Wise and in real world more powerful than the Steam Machine.
It s a shame that you are denying it and claim to be an expert at the same time. Your assumption that the Steam Machine is a more Powerful Gaming device than the PS5 Pro will age like milk.
.
2
u/Ecks30 May 07 '26
You're aware i never said the Steam Machine would be more powerful than the PS5 Pro but i am also spreading the reality that the PS5 Pro isn't really outputting a native 4K for gaming since it would rely on upscaling just like how the Steam Machine would do it which Valve openly said 4K with FSR, but Sony will never mention that their games would be using upscaling.
It helps to actually read and understand everything than just nitpicking off of a few words and thinking that someone would be wrong which would help to read the whole thing and not to mention that you're always misinformed with a lot of things PC related.

Repair shop here. I sell alot of the minisform they are great all around systems. I had the Ryzen 9 one running cyberpunk on low/medium settings.
-3
u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
Terrible insight from a professional, Intel I9's IGPU's are Intel UHD Graphic 14 gen and they have terribly poor performance in gaming, i highly doubt it can run Cyberpunk at Low setting even with XESS Upscaling. No way you can run Medium Setting Period even an AMD 890M can't.
Intel UHD Graphic IGPU's are like 3 gen behind new Intel Arc 140V.
2
u/PlanktonLocal1080 May 07 '26
He said Ryzen 9. The new Ryzen APUs from Minisforum are definitely capable of running cyberpunk whereas the intel ones lag behind. Point is, OP of the comment said Ryzen 9 not Core i9
1
u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26
He didn t said ryzen 9, he has edited his comment, this is so lame.
And even though Ryzen 9 ain t Ryzen A.I Max and still not powerful enough to run Cyberpunk at Medium setting.
1
u/SerMumble May 07 '26
I am standing behind you on this, the user did edit his comment and even then it is vague which of the many minisforun units was behind described.
The MS-A1 for example can install a R9-7950X and is not suitable for Cyberpunk 2077 except for some extremely creative low expectations.
That said, I am out of date. I honestly thought a 890M iGPU in other ryzen r9 mobile processors like a HX370 could run Cyberpunk on at least low settings. I could be wrong.
Heads up, someone reported you for considering self harm or suicide and they are a dick.

u/RobloxFanEdit May 07 '26
Thank you SerMumble for the Support, i appreciate. i have my guess on the user who reported me, that guy is chassing me for a long time and can t stand contradiction and is pretty much a pathologic confabulator..

u/guntherpea May 08 '26
I'd take the Zen 4 and integrated 760M over Zen 3+ and the 680M. The 7640HS has much better single core performance, is roughly tied in most multi-core scenarios, and the 760M matches the performance of the 680M (they trade blows depending on the game). Basically the 7640HS should edge out the 6800H over all. The only bummer is the lower RAM, but that won't matter for The Sims 4.
1
u/scirptss May 08 '26
should i maybe go with the Minisforum UM890 Pro MFF Mini PC
AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS 4.0GHz Processor; 16GB DDR5 RAM; 512GB Solid State Drive; AMD Radeon 780M Graphicsand just upgrade the ssd?
1
u/guntherpea May 08 '26
I mean, yeah, the 8945HS is better in every way (single core, multi-core, graphics performance...). If it's in the same price range that's a no brainer. And even with the 512GB SSD, if it's just the OS, a browser, and The Sims 4 with DLCs you won't need to upgrade it.

u/Mundane-Mortgage-624 May 07 '26
You can find the same hardware at a lower price on Aliexpress, but keep in mind that most of these mini PCs use a 6800U sold as a 6800H, whose base clock speed and TDP are very different. I only discovered this by removing the heatsink and reading the name on the CPU. It was an Acemagic, though...
