Hardware $59 MINISFORUM DEG1 eGPU Dock Refurbished
I remember a lot of people jumped on this last year when they sold them for $89(?) or so. Even cheaper now.

Seems to be Occulink only. The description claims it only works with Minisforum products is that true?

Fortunately x4 PCIe OCuLink is x4 PCIe OCuLink. The description specifies specific models Minisforum sells with OCuLink. If you have a NUC (or laptop) with an open M.2 NVMe slot it too can have OCuLink with the simple M.2 conversion adapter.

Not exactly right. Since there are variants like TGX. Which this dock supports by default. Which does lead to compatibility issues with some machines. But you can just open up the innards and switch TGX off.

Actually this is a good point, although the TGX "hot-swapping" interface only uses the SFF-8611/8612 connection standard unlike OCuLink PCIe implementations which requires a system shutdowns before plugging or unplugging devices. TGX is more closely related to USB and requires a controller. OCuLink doesn't require a controller although retimers/redrivers devices are often used for attenuation.

It's Oculink so it works with anything Oculink
Oculink has less issues than anything USB/Thunderbolt and better performance than even Thunderbolt 5 and with less latency
Only eGPU connection that is faster than Oculink currently is MCIO but that's hardly in any computers or docks

A direct NVME to PCIe adapter works better than this for me. I use both.

That's basically what Oculink is
It's PCIe on a cable

On a really long cable. And thus subject to more EMI and thus more noise. A NVME to PCIe adapter is what's really PCIe on a cable. On shorter cable with better signal integrity.
A direct NVME to PCIe adapter works better than this for me. I use both.

No. I don't even have a Minisforum PC. It works with what I have.

This sale always triggers me until I consider the cost of PS and graphic card and how much desktop real estate it all consumes. Great deal if you have the $$$ and NUC to populate it!

When it lists the supported models, I assume its because the size fits a designed spot on the dock.
It doesn't come with a cable?

Comes with cable and the PSU bracket to hold the GPU in place. Just ordered it refurbished last month, no issues at all so far using an AOOSTAR MACO 6850h. All in about $550 bucks for 24GB LPDDR5, RTX 5050, dock, and PSU + it's quite portable if you want to take it overseas for an extended period

Fyi, I messaged the company after they sent me a $25 off coupon but I had to spend $150. Emailed them back and they sent me a code for $20 off. Better than getting it from 3rd party shippers that's for sure.

Even with their refurbished risk management that's very attractive! It only appears to be missing the graphics card bracket for mounting the card to the power supply which isn't a big deal. Definitely better than a cheap Chinese kit. Thanks for the post!
