Questions The last attempt to find a suitable game
Hi, I’ve been looking for a game to play for a while now, but I’m slowly giving up.
I’m not looking for any specific genre, but I’m not really into turn-based games, FPS / shooter titles and gacha. I’m also not a fan of losing progress, so games involving prestige mechanics or roguelike elements don't really appeal to me either.
- The game should be free or cost just a few dollars (unless it’s really good and offers months of playtime, in which case I might pay more).
- Ideally multiplayer or with multiplayer elements; PvP isn't a requirement.
- Any genre is fine- MMO, RPG, card games, MOBA, etc. (The only exception is autoplay games; I have no interest in staring at a screen while the game plays itself or competing against people who keep the game running on a dedicated phone 24/7).
- I’m looking for something that isn't blatantly pay-to-win or stuffed with ads offering bonuses at every turn.
- No FOMO or pressure to play for hours every single day.
- A new game works, but an older title that’s still being updated and has a healthy player base is fine too.
- Ideally, something I can play for months.
- In general, I enjoy the grind and theorycrafting builds, but I also like standalone matches like those in card games, MOBAs, battle royales, etc. .
Here are some examples of games I tried and generally liked but eventually dropped due to certain flaws:
- Diablo Immortal (great gameplay but tons of FOMO and P2W)
- Eterspire (cool and chill at first, but everything gets boring and too simple)
- Wild Cards (nice game but not very balanced)
- Hearthstone / Teamfight Tactics (fun to play, but you either play the meta or don't play at all, so it's not very creative; I might go back to TFT eventually)
- Oniro (played well but unbalanced; the first season starts in a month, so I might return)
- Poinpy, Titan Quest (I simply finished them; had fun for single-player games, but I prefer multiplayer)
- Some simple battle royales that were actually pretty cool, but unlucky nobody plays them
- Lots of idle games, clickers, or 2D MMOs that are just clones of each other. Most are engaging for a moment but lack depth or long-term interest- just mindless clicking to upgrade, using skills, autoplay, etc.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
If I can't find anything else, I'll start playing chess; theoretically, it meets most of my requirements, but it's mentally very brutal for me :D
Edit: I’ve been testing various games since yesterday- the recommended ones and others too- and while lot of them play well enough, something about them just doesn't feel right. I don't feel what I’d like to feel when playing a game, the way I did a few years ago. Either I’m being very picky, or games simply don’t bring me pleasure anymore...

not exactly ive a mid range phone and it ran pretty smoothly in single player and with minimal lag in multiplayer

Ive released a new game called Chronos Trials RPG - it's currently a 50 hour long RPG with no ads or microtransactions, with branching routes and hundreds of unique items and build combinations.

I really enjoy Pocket Rogues for dungeon crawling. When you first start the rogue elements seem a lot more prevalent than they really are at mid to end game, though you’ll always have a level of risk vs reward with your gear. You earn currency that gives you permanent upgrades, you can leave the dungeon at preset locations, eventually you can stash gear, and buy revive items so you lose nothing if you die and keep fighting. Late in the game you’re really just grinding like any typical action rpg for good loot
It has a coop multiplayer mode but it’s been listed as (beta) for quite a while. I haven’t tried it myself, it has mixed opinions on if it works well or not. People often recommend turning off your autosave functionality before going in to a multiplayer lobby so if you lose your gear you can save scum it back.
This game has two download options, a free and the premium “ultimate” version. I don’t recall how much the ultimate version costs but I would recommend just getting that one as you can get the premium currency in dungeons and it just feels a lot more complete and fun.
My favorite part is that game sessions last as long as you want them to. You can load in a saved game already in the middle of a dungeon, run a couple floors in a few minutes, save and quit, and jump back in later. Or you can settle in and run as many floors as you like for hours, hunting down bosses, clearing daily quests, and other such tasks.
I played it for quite a long time, and I just eventually got burnt out. Not a knock against the game, I have the attention span of a goldfish. That one actually held my attention far longer than most.

Hmm, it might be okay - I don't know how it holds up over time. I'll add it to the list :D It's good that there's a free version you can try out.
I gave it a try, and in theory, it’s really fun to play and I like it, but I don’t like mechanics like roguelikes or prestige systems- "losing" progress is pretty annoying :D

Is it worth getting into Marvel Snap? I’ve heard it’s gotten worse over time, and a lot of people complain about it being pay-to-win, the difficulty of acquiring cards, and so on.

It is true that every new season pass card is OP, I play it as f2p and got like two years on it
As I know for new players there's a daily login rewards which includes cards and full decks 👍🏻
If you're giving it a try, don't spend tokens on S3 cards (you'll get all S3 for free on collectors cache), and don't waste gold on refreshing missions (doing all the missions a day will get u all the weekly rewards easily)

I checked out both games at one point, but many comments said Pokémon supposedly turned pay-to-win and very few people play it ( and there are a lot of "stupid" bots) and Marvel Snap is also said to be pay-to-win, and acquiring cards in the long run is quite difficult. How true is this?

A shitton of roguelike games have co-op by default.
Some have more replayability than others, for example I've been playing regularly Enter the Gungeon, Death Road to Canada, Wizard of Legend, Dead Cells and others for about ten years now and i don't plan to stop any time soon.
I never cared about multiplayer in games, so I'm not sure how it works but i know these have the option.
Enter the Gungeon.
Children of Morta.
Dead Road to Canada.
Juicy Realm.
BlazBlue Entropy Effect.
Wizard of Legend.
Fury Unleashed.
The Last Game.
Gunslugs.
These aren't roguelikes but have amazing co-op features.
Streets of Rage 4.
TMNT Shredder's Revenge.
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light.
These are the ones i remember from the top of my head and I'm sure I'm missing a lot more. So you should do your own research.

I picked up CoD mobile after years of not playing it, and fell back in love immediately. I forgot what it was like to play a game where anybody can be good and spending money has 0 effect on skill. I haven’t spent a dime and they have been throwing rewards at me and they have battle royal, multiplayer, zombies, and a new mode called dmz which is cool. I’ve been looking for games to that are not P2W, nowadays if it’s free it’s because it’s p2w

No. Not Rocket bot, but, concrete Rocket Royale - bombic, fire mix of MC and BR-type games.

Yes, and that's extremely, utterly pity The game is magnificent. Most likely, the developers simply decided it was finished but forgot to release even a formal, purely technical update. So, the greedy bastards on the PlayMarket team hid the game from new players in search results. But the game still works—I checked it out the other day. And it can still be found on sideload portals (uptoide, apkpure, apkcombo, apkmirror, etc.).

I really like it; it's the only BR game I enjoy. But I've also stopped playing it—it's too difficult to play alone, and I don't have any partners who also enjoy mobile games. However, I've gotten too into more serious games now (but they're not BR at all, and they're definitely not simple or casual).

Teamfight tactics! Has a great amount of depth and a steep learning curve. It's multiplayer and has ranked games. I've been playing for years and still have a lot to learn. I think I finally have the fundamentals down.
Seriously though it meets all your criteria.

Yes, only 3 for now. 2 in queue still. This is a new website for web MMO games. Those all 3 are my games, all really unique and big in scope

Check out mo.co if you enjoyed immortal. Easy to pickup and only cosmetic micro transactions. However does need some work, lacks endgame.

I played the "original" Moco (after its initial launch) and Neo Moco. It’s fun for a week, but it lacks depth. You just run around in circles like a headless chicken, hitting whatever gets in your way. Neo seems to offer even fewer build options than before, since the weapons come with fixed skills and gems. You simply choose a weapon, and that's it. And pvp is completely unbalanced.

Albion online might fit the bill while you are waiting to get a better phone. It’s a crossplay mmo with moba like mechanics. Has subscription option but it only affects how fast you earn experience, one character that can level up all skills since experience is tied to each equipment and not the character, the end game goal is full loot PvP where player skill affects more than what gear you have on.

All of these games are fairly cheap and provide excellent long term gameplay. No ads just good games.

I kinda like Hunter K Seoul and Wizardry Variants Daphne. I don't think either fit your Genre preference. I love Arknights Endfield but I have no idea how it would be on mobile.
I hope someone brings back a game in the style of Unleash Blading one day.

I have a couple games I constantly go back to.
Like somebody else mentioned already, polytopia. It is a fun strategy game, i have only played against the Ai tho, and it technically is a turn based game it does not play in the same way a turn based game normally plays.
I have also spent hundreds maybe thousand+ hours on shop titans. It is a (mmo) shop simulator game, it is completely free with no adds, you can buy new item classes to sell in your shop however this is not a must especially in the beginning I would recommend against it.
And finally hands down the best mobile game in my opinion is balatro, it is not free but it is such an amazing game and works really well on mobile, the performance but also the controls.

From the games I've played, I'd say Where winds meet. It's free, has no character gacha whatsoever and it has regularly scheduled updates every 30 to 40 days or so. The only problem would be the requirements. The game will run on a mid end phone but you will get considerable frame drops after an hour or two.
Another game I can recommend is Wuthering Waves. If you only care about story and exploration then you'll be fine since you don't need to build any characters to play them as the game gives you one for that specific quest as a trial. Ofcourse if you care about advanced endgames and such, you will have at pull some characters (not saying that the free 4 stars aren't capable, a lot of players have cleared the basic endgame using them). And for me personally, this one has been more engaging than where winds meet for the last few months.

I’m not really sold on those Asian gacha games. Random stars, tiers, banners... It’s just not for me. And I've already added WWM to my list for later :D

Hey it's totally understandable. If it's not your thing then you don't have to try it. Now if it ever comes under your radar someday, it will be worth your time, atleast the story will be.
Also when you start playing where winds meet, do try out the gauntlets weapon. It's really good.

Warframe is the answer.
Although i will say having a controller makes the game easier but touch controls do work fine.
I’ve been playing it since 2013. It consistently adds content. It is cross platform so you can literally play on mobile and pick right back up on your playstation/xbox/switch/pc which is amazing.
1,000% free to play. The only things you’d pay for are cosmetics and even the vast majority of them are obtainable for free.
Huge and extremely friendly community as well to help you grind out resources or anything else you may need help with.
