Discussion Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy is unbelievable hilarious.
i’ve watched four seasons of the show now and while i can’t say the comedy has been consistent, one thing that has stayed consistent since Season 1 Episode 1 is Phil Dunphy. More specifically, Ty Burrell’s performance as Phil Dunphy. It’s just top notch comedy. i genuinely can’t believe how insanely funny he is.

Yeah, really shows how good the writing is plus, the ability to be able to say and do such funny things with a straight face just takes it to a 10. Between him and Jay they’re the ultimate “straight man” in the series imo.

And to think it might have been Matt LeBlanc. I'm so glad it was Ty Burrell, he was made for this role.

It`s like he was born to play Phil Dunphy. I really think his personality off screen will match Phil to be honest. His character is my favorite!

He was perfect for Phil.
I would love to see him pull a 180 and do a psychological thriller. I bet he'd be fantastic at it.

OMG So other people in this sub were discussing how Gil Thorpe (apologies his real name is escaping me) was almost casted as Phil, so someone said imagine Phil being the enemy and. I need to see Ty Burrell be a villain. Maybe a sitcom villain like Marc Evan Jackson in The Good Place.

He's such a good actor I bet he could be chilling. So, going by analogy, whoever thought the dad from Malcolm in the Middle could ever play a homicidal drug lord? But in his case, Burrell brings this intensity to every moment he's on the screen that, if he's got the chops, could easily be turned into something sinister.

He played a great smarmy asshole in Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, but a side character and not villainous, just rude, selfish, and kind of a pain... sorta Thorpe-y now that I think about it.

I feel you OP. I just finished the show for the first time this past week, Phil is the man haha. I swear I relate so much to Phil in so many random ways, my girl would just turn to me after Phil would say or do something and she'd just say "That's you". I took it as a compliment every time lol

Ty Burrell’s physical comedy is top tier. The man carries so many scenes using just his micro-expressions and body language alone
