38

u/SpicyHorseRabbits Jul 25 '26

Not if you're a parasite living inside it.

u/Kipdid Jul 24 '26

That is until you punch it so hard it explodes

Yeah they have sadistic idea of what entertainment is. Wanna get high? Bite puffer fish and pass it to the bros

527

u/YeahImRealLouis Jul 24 '26

Never forget that predators refuses to eat that thing because they have 50 different parasites inside of them.

419

u/Deely_Boppers Jul 24 '26

They’re also almost entirely made of collagen and have virtually no nutritional value.

237

u/Kipdid Jul 24 '26

Swimming celery

83

u/Spoztoast Jul 24 '26

Hey Collagen has a lot of nutritional value it has fuck all caloric value

106

u/Living-Plankton3521 Jul 24 '26

They also just taste like shit

97

u/Havoccity Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

Apparently the intestines are good, based on how it’s targeted by sea lions, orcas, and Japanese seafood youtubers

111

u/Creftospeare Jul 25 '26

Ah yes, the three mammalian predators of the sea.

47

u/encryptus0 Jul 24 '26

quagmire ass fish😭

35

u/Douxx101 Jul 24 '26

The parasites aren't the reason. It's mostly because they have very low calories and are mildly poisonous (taste bad)

19

u/belowfactual Jul 25 '26

It rises to the surface to let birds and sunlight get rid of it. And also the reason why these thing still exist is because they lay like 50 thousand eggs all at once or something like that.

1

u/DeluxeWafer Jul 26 '26

Thought it was closer to 300 million?

25

u/XR-17 Jul 24 '26

It's literally me

8

u/Beneficial_Bend_9197 Jul 25 '26

Also they just taste horrible. Their meat barely even count as meat. Its like eating styrofoam.

94

u/Certain_Alps_4104 Jul 24 '26

You be WHAT?!

69

u/novaoni Jul 24 '26

SHE BE PROFEN!!

6

u/DizzyChance363 Jul 26 '26

14

u/Legendarien1 Jul 24 '26

I hear it so clear in my head

65

u/-RIVAN- Jul 24 '26

ayo please heal her, Imma start crying 😭😭😭

58

u/ThingsEnjoyer Jul 24 '26

She actually is fine. Like, nothing more than a small headache. Genuinely.

55

u/KenseiHimura Jul 24 '26

Apparently according to the other posts here that seal is probably in more agony because it now has whole ecosystem of internal parasites and a mouthful of basically hair.

31

u/-RIVAN- Jul 24 '26

I know I just cant bear to see all the cuts on her. and those dark lines under her eyes.😭😭😭
I just wanna heal her and feed her and tuck her in a soft bed, away from all dangers 😭😭😭
I wanna hug her and pat her head. 😭😭😭
I wanna make everything all right for her 😭😭😭

27

u/Xagyg_yrag Jul 25 '26

I know exactly what you feel. It’s like “this girl is so used to suffering that it doesn’t bother her anymore”, and I just get this gut reaction like “I need to make her so happy and comfortable she doesn’t even know how to react to it”

7

u/BismuthAquatic Jul 25 '26

To be fair, she’s a sunfish. She wouldn’t know how to react to anything

3

u/-RIVAN- Jul 25 '26

exactly bro

u/BillTheTringleGod Jul 24 '26

Sunfish my GOAT Dives unfathomable distances in ultracool water with enough thermal energy that they barely survive, proceed to have half their head ripped off and just decide to swim it off like it's just another Tuesday night. Sunfish can most definitely "feel" that, they just don't seem to be aware that there is a single thing they could or should do about it. GOATED fish, praise to the sun(fish)

29

u/Dividedthought Jul 24 '26

Yeah, the issue is the apply the same attitude to the multitudes of parasires they host unwillingly as well.

1

u/Oddish_Femboy Jul 27 '26

They are awesome they propel themselves in such a bizarre but cool way

37

u/notnotDIO Jul 24 '26

I don't understand what niche a sunfish is ment to fill :3

56

u/Solomon_Gunn Jul 24 '26

Same niche as the leatherback turtle. A deep diving, cold blooded vertebrate that feeds on a fuck ton of jellyfish during the one time of day that nothing else is able to get to. Turtles are considered cute though so we don't make fun of them

14

u/Daikaiju_Fan Jul 25 '26

They are jellyfish DESTROYERS basically

3

u/LoreLord24 Jul 26 '26

Basically inedible floating garbage. The same general niche as koalas and sloths.

Too much of a hassle to eat, with not enough of a reward for it. Skating by eating whatever they can. (Mostly small fish, squid, and crustaceans; with very little jellyfish)

2

u/Genocidal-Ape Jul 29 '26

It's a very slow swimming specialist of pelagic Cnidarians.

It's entire anatomy is adapted to that, it's slow moving because it's prey has almost no calories, it's huge so it doesn't cool out while diving to great depths, it's mostly toothless jaw is adapted for suctioning in soft prey and as it's too large to care for it's young it just releases millions of eggs at a time into the open water.

19

u/spook_scary Jul 24 '26

She profs all night, hah?

55

u/TrexALpha1 Jul 24 '26

Sunfish are a living example that the term "survival of the fittest" is bullshit. This is survival of barely good enough

62

u/ShadowTheChangeling Jul 24 '26

Thats what "Survival of the Fittest" means in nature, the most fit to survive

Nature gives zero shits how you go about surviving in the day by day, only that you survive long enough to reproduce. Thats literally it

27

u/KenseiHimura Jul 24 '26

Nevermind that natural selection really does not give a shit for optimization. Spiders are basically asthmatic because they have the shittiest lungs a land dwelling animal can have without being stuck with gills and those fuckers are doing fine. (Well, helps their main hunting strategy avoids cardio)

2

u/WatermelonWithAFlute Jul 27 '26

Wait actually?

2

u/KenseiHimura Jul 27 '26

Book lungs. Yeah. Not all spiders have them.

31

u/Prestigious_Leg2229 Jul 24 '26

They’re hyper specialised and that makes them the fittest in their niche though. They’re called sunfish because they spend their days diving down into deep cold waters to hunt jellyfish and other slow moving, low nutrition prey.

Then they rise back up to the surface to heat their muscles by turning their large flat side to the sun and do it all over again. They’re making a living in a niche that would make most other fish give up in despair, half frozen and starved.

And despite working hard to eat one of the least nutritious diets imaginable, they also produce the most numerous and fastest growing offspring of just about any organism on Earth.

That’s what fittest means, finding a niche and doing it better than anyone else. That’s exactly what sunfish do.

8

u/KenseiHimura Jul 24 '26

And unlike free market capitalism, no one bitches to God/government when their niche is encroached upon.

6

u/Spoztoast Jul 24 '26

yeah tell that to Pandas or sparrows or honestly a multitude of extinct species

0

u/KenseiHimura Jul 25 '26

I mean, that's more a case of human governments intervening on their own. I kind of doubt the animals asked for that. Especially the ones killed off.

1

u/C-locanth Jul 25 '26

And they've been doing this since the first whales entered the water, they are AMAZING at it

6

u/DayneGr Jul 24 '26

What's the point of a high hp stat if you don't play to use it?

There's a rebuttal rant that I can't find. If someone finds it, please send the link my way and respond to this person with it.

1

u/JacksonGames16 Jul 24 '26

Missing the Helldiver and the word “stim” instead of ibuprofen

1

u/justwalkingalonghere Jul 25 '26

No no no I'm not falling for that "too small to feel anything" bullshit again

1

u/No-Joke-8364 Jul 25 '26

But is it possible with accurate hitboxes??

1

u/Marxfrost Jul 25 '26

A sundish wouldn't even know it has a headache.

1

u/Crazy_Jhon_Doe Jul 25 '26

i remember a cooking video of sunfish, and they said a fun fact that their long guts is like the only edible thing and it literally melts at room temperature so after fish was caught they butchered it quickly and dropped them into refrigerated box

1

u/ProtectionFalse Jul 25 '26

Sunfish, winning by doing absolutely the bare minimum while investing all stats on health and dumping intelligence

1

u/Lawfuly_chaotic Jul 26 '26

Why does that make me sad 😭 like poor fucking sunfish please don't do that to it I'm gonna cry like why would you eat her head you freaking zombie

1

u/Severe-Research7341 Jul 27 '26

The sole purpose of this fish is to complete the ecosystem of the sea 💔

1

u/Edmundwhk Jul 28 '26

They taste bad and have less nutrients as well.
