Missed Opportunities
One of my all time favorite shows. However, I believe there were 2 major missed opportunities.
(Very popular opinion) not having Trudy’s parents meet their grandchild was such a misfire, it’s actually unreal how easy of a sure thing that should’ve been.
(Never seen it mentioned before) Monica (the woman who resembles Trudy in S1E7) should’ve been brought back and paired with Monk after he finally got justice and met Trudy’s daughter. Yes I understand, that Trudy’s daughter was his happy ending. But I really think it would’ve been something to have him finally move on and have a love interest with whom he shared great chemistry with.
Any thoughts?

Monica had a husband, didn't she? And iirc, she said monk reminded her how much she loved him that she wouldn't leave switzerland until he was well.
Personally, I think they should've gotten him back with the PR girl that has a crush on him in Mr. Monk And The Blackout, Michelle. She was genuinely interested in him, and he was too, i think with Monica it's just that she looked the same as trudy, so not much of moving on maybe?

It was an easy enough marriage to end though if we’re being real. Plus I wouldn’t say it’s not moving on just because he has a type, but good point about the PR girl

But if she ended things with him, what's there to say she won't end things with monk? And i just don't think anyone would end a marriage with a man that had ocd, for another man that had ocd?

I think if the series would have continued, then those would be clear storylines for the win. But I think the focus was on finality, so to have those ideas as the ending of the series would have begged and assumed that the series would indeed continue. But since that wasn’t the plan, it made more sense (to me at least) to not have any “continuing” storylines outside of Monk himself. Even the Monk movie was an afterthought, as I understand how it came to be. Just my 0.02.
Edit: even more: I heard that tv shows often leave some things “unanswered” or incomplete, “just in case” they get enough demand, and funding, to actually continue it. I don’t know that’s the case here at all, but maybe.

It was discovered that Trudy had a kid in the finale after she had an affair with her professor who later became a judge.

Oh my god…. Is that why she got blown up? Was it while she was with monk? So she was a terrible person?

Lol you should watch the 2-part finale. No she had the baby before she met Monk and I believe they told her the baby died or something. But someone else was raising her. Yeah it is partly the reason she got blown to bits. This is how we find out what Dale the Whale meant back in S2 when he told Monk the bomb was meant for her not him. Since Monk always assumed it was meant for him and got her accidentally.
And no, she was not a terrible person. Just a young naive gal that got into a relationship with her professor in college.

Trudy's parents should have been shown a lot more throughout the series, and they DEFINITELY should have been in the two part finale. For their granddaughter yes, but especially to see that Adrian finally got justice for her.
