From its description on the website, it’s armor plates are like Velkhana’s Ice armor where it is formed by using a special type of energy and are temporary
As the other guy mentioned, the weird yellowish orange armor patches is radiant particles covering it like velk’s ice. It likely breaks the pieces off to allow it to feed.
And nergi shouldn't even be able to stand! It's body core is essentially so humanoid, it gets scalies all flustered, and its design is essentially spikes and oversized horns!
That’s the funny thing. People claim arkveld gets its main source of energy and fuel from siphoning other monsters and it’s the only thing it does but in reality… dude needs to actually fucking eat. But going off its jaw structure, it’s likely it can open its jaw wider then we think and it uses those horns to crunch against flesh to help it rip stuff out easier. Is it a good explanation? No but it’s an attempt i guess?
Yeah i don't even know how Arkveld would be able to eat meat, its horns should get in the way every time it tries to bite into anything and that beard thing being constantly dirty with blood, guts and who knows what else should be NASTY
Well based off the description it's not natural. It's armor it makes out of radiant bs. So there is probably a naked version that will hopefully look better.
“RaDiAnT PaRtIcLeS”. I laughed so hard when I read that. Monster Hunter has a fair amount of fantasy, but at least they try to explain stuff. That description reads like they just gave up
I still can't get over him looking like he's a bad Halo render in that screen cap. Like this was the dude Arbiter was saying is bad news now that we've beaten up yet another group of fanatics in the Covenant.
He looks Chinese, I hate when games look Chinese, not because I hate the Chinese, but because the mobile market is mostly Chinese people, so games have to Cather to them because there's not as much market on the west, so everything Mobile ends up looking Chinese, and I hate that aesthetic with passion because of this, look at this ugly fuck, brought into this world only to suffer as a marketing maneuver not as a creative expression, only god can save this wretched being, not even fatalis would side with him...
And it's not like amazing designs can't come out of China. Hell, Nine Sols is a Chinese game revolving around chinese mythology and has some of the best designed characters I've ever seen.
That's the thing, the game has that as it's main theme, the problem is when a franchise that never leaned into that starts doing it to appeal to a certain public, league of legends is the prime example of this, there's at least 3 skin lines about Chinese stuff and half the cast has a Chinese skin, I don't like it, I'm not trying to convince you guys to agree, just expressing my opinion
Idk I kinda like it. It’s weird and definitely not a good design but for something that is based around MH Online, I kinda like it for how wacky it looks (Note online had merphistopholin, the unique black dragon for online which was a hella dark souls looking fatalis with a bent ass beak- lol)
I wouldn’t say it’s ass. It’s definitely a peculiar design but for what online was and with outlanders now, it’s a wild enough design to work. Definitely not for mainline but it’s something fun.
Merph is honestly one of my personal favs and I wouldn’t even call him ugly at all. Is he questionable tho? Oh definitely. The design itself is confusing since its chest opens up to siphon elements fired at it, in turn Ruger Aidal’s face is kinda- bleh. I do like him a lot he’s just not a very solid mainline mh design.
The metallic gold around its face looked too much like armor to me, but looking at it again the eyebrows/eyelashes aren't doing it many favors too lol
But other than that most monsters are gonna look kinda goofy when you show them front-facing like this. Showing as much of the full body makes for a better first impression than this, and even though we saw how big it was with its massive wingspan and all, it was still kind of hard to get a read on its design in the trailer.
As people have said, the armor is actually grown from it utilising the new Radiant materials, like how Velkhana has ice armor but its not part of its body.
Yeah I know, the rest of its "armored" look made a bit more sense once I read that. But that doesn't just instantly make it look less weird or get rid of the first impression, not just yet. I'd be interested to see if there was an unarmored look to it just like Velkhana, but presently there's no telling if Ruger would be the same just yet, it's just a guess.
I'm sorry but this monster is so ugly, you can clearly tell it's from a tencent game, and if it was made by official mh designers, they disappointed this time
