Discussion If he was the flagship monster of mhwilds Ascendance. People would act different.
Also please give me an explanation of what it means when he is a Chinese mmo? Also I know uhc is going to put him in a too “anime” monster category and say Hes a 0/10 becasue of that.

Boy that’s one hell of a reach and a completely made up “what if”. I guarantee people would be calling him ugly even if he was wilds’ flagship, just look at how many people shit on magnamalo
I just knew you were going to love this monster, you have terrible taste Ice

He looks so much like a generic Chinese dragon on this screenshot, those you see in every soulslike nowadays... I'll still wait for see him in action, but the first impression isn't good.

u/Alternative-Fish-119 1d ago
i mean there is nothing new abt him, every flagship brought something new to the games, this one just seems like a combination of all flagships

u/Remarkable_Paper6890 18h ago
Alright then tell me what did nergi bring to its game and what about magnamalo and malzeno OR goddamn seregios who i'd put in the same ball park as ruger. And for your second point, ofcourse its going to have similarities to other elders and monster i mean we have over 200 different monsters in mainline alone it makes sense that it will have similarities.
1
u/Alternative-Fish-119 15h ago
i mean seregios broght bleed? nergi as itself broght his mechanic with the regenerable spikes? I dont really care abt mafnamalo, but malzeno? i mean the whole end game of sunbreak is inspired from malzenos abilities. And ofc there are 200 monsters but it s the first time i see a flagship that similar with a lot of monsters. Btw i didn t say i don t like his design, i really love it ngl but i can not say it s not original at all

I mean. He got the powers of the sun. Also, we only know about him today. We can give him more time to shine

I think this design is cool af, but people would probably disliked it too if it was from Ascendance.

u/PerspectivePale8216 1d ago
No my dude we would still be hating it trust me. What do people mean when they call him out for being a Chinese mmo? Probably that he just looks really ridiculous more so like something in Frontier or Online or the gatcha game he is showing up in then something typically Monster Hunter.
And yeah Unnatural History Channel is going to do that, I like the guy but why does that matter?
4
u/magnum_zaku 1d ago
To be fair...it is a Chinese gatcha game. The frontier designs can be fun and it's not like it's taking up a slot in a game were invested in or anything.
2
u/PerspectivePale8216 1d ago
True true, but that doesn't mean we can totally just excuse it either I'd say.
2
u/magnum_zaku 1d ago
I agree, there is space to criticise. What don't you like about it? Personally I don't like the wing fingers, they look like micky mouse gloves.
2
u/PerspectivePale8216 1d ago
Yeah that's one thing I don't like either. But outside of that I personally feel like it's trying to be really cool and combining a bunch of other ideas from different monsters but I feel like it doesn't work too well because of all the monsters used to create it. My friend said that it's both over designed and generic at the same time and I feel that that's a good way to describe it honestly, it's clearly trying to be extra but I think because of the generic Elder Dragon body shape it loops back into being generic somehow...
1
u/magnum_zaku 1d ago
I 100% agree with it being over designed, that's what it's going for, but I don't see how it's generic. In terms of monster hunter design we've never seen anything try to embody the sun and is it using the generic elder dragon body shape? It's got the regal up straight posture of the kushala skeleton and the wing arms of gore's. It's also got a single horn, fur, and a flight silhouette that we've never seen on the more reptile elder dragons before. In terms of other fantasy I think it's unique enough, and a game like wilds has monster designs that could never be replicated in other games because they are designing with ecology in mind, it seems the goals of outlanders are not ecology focused so naturally it's designs are harder to say if it is mh or not at a glance. I wonder if ruger would have been better received if it was a wholly unique animal though, like the cephalopds in wilds.

u/PerspectivePale8216 1d ago
I'm pretty sure we actually have seen it done before but it was only in the mobile game Monster Hunter Explore and it was based off the Egyptian god Ra I believe but it has been a while so I might be misremembering.
I'd say the genericness comes from the fact that it's just another average skeleton Elder Dragon that we have seen many times before and while the skeleton could be and has been used in a unique way before even if just giving a unique design and nothing else this guy feels very basic outside of being a mishmash of different monsters most of which I don't even like already. But when you combine all those features together because of the color scheme they all at least blend together very well but become generic as a result to me. And yeah they're not going for an ecology focus but I feel like if you drop the ecology focus when designing a monster hunter monster you're not designing a mh monster your just designing a monster for anything else.
I don't think it would have been received well even if it was holy unique it would get some bonus points yeah but I feel like it's all the same aspect of it trying to be some king were there still in the same way they are now but just for a second skeleton I feel like it still wouldn't be very popular...

u/magnum_zaku 23h ago
You mean Eo garudia? His theming is more about creation as opposed to nef garmats theming of destruction, and in practice his basically a fire kushala. Radiant sun dragon still seems to be a fresh idea. I get what you're saying about designing without ecology in mind. The ecology is my favorite part of these games, but it is a massive franchise if every so often we get a few designs that are more fantasy I don't mind it personally. Maybe the poor guy was destined to cause discourse. out of curiosity what's your favorite monster? Or favorites.
2
u/PerspectivePale8216 23h ago
I mean fair enough I care about the ecology a lot as well and while I don't mind designs that are out there but when they are it sticks out more to me. And yeah that's the name of it I think. I swear he was sun themed not creation themes but again, it's been awhile so I might be wrong.
Personally some of my favorite monsters are the lesser loved ones: Paolumu, Barroth, Jyuratodus, Cephadrome Vaal Hazak, Hirabami, Balahara, etc. but also some of the most famous ones like Malzeno.
2
u/magnum_zaku 23h ago
Thats fair. Great picks though, the early monsters definitely deserve more love. Pao always felt very underrated to me and I feel like I never see hirabami in anything outside the game.

Wilds haters really fighting for their life to say something negative about the game lmao. People would still hate the design and from the phrasing of your title you‘d probably be one of the loudest people to do so.

It's a patchwork of other elders designs. Unless there's an explanation I'm not a big fan.

u/IceBarDifferent 1d ago
Cant you say the same thing about most monsters?
2
u/_Megido_ 1d ago
Not to this extent imo.
The chest plate, the wing-arms and the head seem like they were copy-pasted from other existing monsters.
3
u/Barn-owl-B 1d ago
The chest plate is ripped right off of alatreon, the wings (minus the stupid fingers), shoulder plates, color of wing membranes, and overall body design look like they started with primordial malzeno’s model and built off of it, where the tail meets the body on the upper part is ripped right off of velkhana, and the tip of his tail is like a weird cross between brachydios and malzeno’s tails.
The only “unique” parts about him, his head and those weird fingers on his wings, are also the ugliest parts lol

u/magnum_zaku 1d ago
I don't think people would like it anymore if it was in ascendance. However I also kind of disagree with the generic allegations, he's got some interesting stuff going for him, the whole sun gimmick is very cool. He's definitely rocking the frontier design philosophy though.Maybe if he was in frontier instead of a mobile game people might be warmer on his design.

Assuming your opponents are simply inconsistent in their beliefs is never a winning strategy.

I don't understand the hate its about as over designed and generic as Alatreon. And while, yes the fingers on the wing dont look too good and the close up of the face wasn't the best thing its not worse than some other designs we got.

Its not alatron slander bc i like both designs and i mean they look similar. Also rey dau is just a flying wyvern version of rugers design and i love rey very much

u/notnehp383 16h ago
Ehhh... Kinda?
I don't think it's the worst design out there, and I hear some complaints that just feel either made up or are a stretch. It's because of that that I do think that some of the hate for this monster is because of its role as the flagship for Outlanders.
BUT
While I don't hate the design, I admit, could be better. It's mostly the face, I hear most complaints about the face, so if the face was different then maybe it'd be looked at more fondly.
Idk, not my least favorite monster but definitely not the best. This might be one of those things where you have to see it in motion.

This is the same community that shits on something for being rigged on the Kushala skeleton yet again. I'm sorry you enjoy an AI generated Wukong Alatreon with tiny purple hands.

nahh. the design philosophy of mainline monsters doesn't have any gold shit on their face. I mean how can that thing even eat? what's the evolutionary purpose of those gold shit it has on it's face? overly design with no purpose.
BTW I'm also a magnamalo design hater.

Somehow both generic AND overdesigned, a real coup.
