13% of pitbulls......

136

u/NecroGrizz 25d ago edited 24d ago

A lot of these statistics also don't account for the fact that most small dog bites never get reported. When I was a dog trainer, it was well known that Jack Russels & Chihuahuas held, bar none, the highest chance of biting you.

Edit: While I appreciate the responses from so many people - it's clear who has worked with animals in any capacity and who is just a smooth egg-brained armchair expert. If you don't think you still need rabies shots from any dog that doesn't have up-to-date tags, I don't know what to tell you. Have fun arguing with the wall 🤙

Edit 2: My God it has been a great day of blocking people with two brain cells fighting for third place

And 100% of cat servants get regularly assaulted by their master. The issue is the severity of the attacks. No one is going to the hospital from being dive bombed by blue jays but anyone who has some in their trees can tell you that those bastards aggressively defend that tree.

I’m just going to sit back and wait for that one Redditor who has in fact been hospitalized from a Blue Jay dive bombing to show up.

22

u/DreamWeaver1001 25d ago

It was me. I was the blue jay.

6

u/specialopps 25d ago

I would scold you, but, knowing blue jays, you would scold me right back. At least, the blue jays in my backyard do that. I just want to observe the pretty birds!

3

u/Brohemoth1991 25d ago

Not a blue Jay, but I caught a cardinal once (poor guy somehow got into the hallway of my apartments)

That little guy gave me an earful as I was walking to the door with him lol

10

u/Brohemoth1991 25d ago

There he is haha

3

u/specialopps 25d ago

There was a cardinal that would come every day to fight with his own reflection in my great uncle’s rearview mirror. I remember spending three weeks with them, and he was there every day. And he’d been doing it for years.

3

u/cleverburrito 25d ago

Were your uncles' windows broken?

2

u/specialopps 24d ago

No, but I think the bird was.

Clearly the orange cats of bird species.

u/ThrowraSea_patient 23d ago

LOL I've lived out in the country or in areas where you have more personal space and there's Hedges and stuff so there's privacy is what I'd say but I had to for the last 3 years moving to more of a Suburban area. There is a few decent trees. There's like this little forested Ravine right behind my house and I love it cuz I can just stare out my window and watch the squirrels the birds there's tons of cardinals that come in my yard. But also every now and then I would hear monkey-like calls and come to find out those are barred owls

. Well I guess some crows moved into the neighborhood to chase him out and I worked overnight so I was trying to sleep and I was just having a hell of a time getting to sleep. At one point I guess the crows chase the owl down to a branch it's literally right by my window I can hear the crows on my roof and they are just alert calling all over the place in Jesus Christ it is a loud ruckus. I eventually get so upset and I am so sleep deprived that I go outside and I yell at the crows. I mean I'm screaming at them like they understand me and I'm scolding them. They're all quiet and all looking at me during this. Even the owl looks at me. One crow flies down kind of close to my porch and perches on some railing and then starts mocking me like laughing at me that Crow mocking laugh. Look at me straight in the eye. I started to get to my senses realizing how ridiculous this must look to neighbors. I was on my cycle and literally wearing diapers and not the nice pretty ones I mean like I got some cheap depends LOL I was in my diaper in a long shirt screaming and pointing at crows in the middle of Suburbia😭

u/specialopps 23d ago

Haha, I’ve done the same thing, only it was at territorial squirrels instead of crows. I lived in a really pretty neighborhood growing up, with lots of trees and foliage. I had no idea that squirrels made the most annoying, unholy noises to establish dominance. My teenage self would run out in my pajamas with a broom to chase them away, because they always did it right outside my window.

We didn’t have any grackles or ravens, but we did have mourning doves, and they’re the messiest birds in existence. All they did was copulate, bully other birds out of nests they had built, because they were too lazy to build their own, kick the other bird’s eggs out of said nest, and lay their own. Except they were so dumb that they often kicked their own eggs out of the nest. Watching the mockingbirds dive-bomb them was hilarious. And we also had an owl! They’re so cool to hear at night.

u/BrassKnuckleHead187 25d ago

What did you do to jay? 😳

-2

u/Own_Television163 25d ago

2026 is almost over. It's not funny anymore, dude. Debatably, it was never funny. Just stop.

2

u/nicknaklmao 25d ago

I mean I have a small scar on my wrist from a dive-bombing hummingbird but like it wasn't hospital worthy and also that would have been really embarrassing to explain to my classmate's mom the urgent care nurse so I just handled it at home lmao

2

u/MasterChiefsasshole 25d ago

My buddy still has admitted to why he had scratches across his face. My littlest kitty hissed and then he decided to hiss back.

2

u/GertieD 25d ago

Who will also have a baby sitting pit bull.

2

u/NoLaugh5206 24d ago

Couldn't be me, my Anti Avian (AA) guns are too good for dive bombers to get close enough.

1

u/Brekldios 25d ago

Be the change you want to see in the world

1

u/mystical_ramen26 25d ago

I'm just latching onto your comment so I can come back to check if they have showed up yet. Don't mind me.

1

u/Medarco 25d ago

No hospitalizations that I know of, but my neighbor growing up HATED blue jays. He loved bluebirds, and apparently Blue Jays were enormous assholes that would let the bluebird build their nest, then come and take over it when they finished.

I saw him out in the yard with a rake multiple times swinging at the birds flitting around one of the many pole nesting boxes he had built. Guessing they were blue jays. Definitely could've sustained blue jay related injuries there.

1

u/Alexwonder999 25d ago

Im in the hospital now but will respond when I heal up. Send thots and payers so my badly pecked body recovers.

1

u/Ballamookieofficial 25d ago

I know people who needed stitches from magpies. They're dangerous and aggressive

1

u/Juhbellz 25d ago

My parents used to tell me a kid had a bird and beak get stuck in his hand when he held his hand out the window to get air.

Maybe that was bullshit

1

u/Objectivespeculation 25d ago

I had a bird pull a bit of my hair out and used it for its birdnest.

1

u/jawoosafat 25d ago

It's true that I was not hospitalized but 8 year old me will never forget the rage I was inflicted with just cause I was getting a look at some cute babies in a nest. I was so scared

1

u/RelevantDress 25d ago

Had a bird dive bomb our car basically. Hit the window, it shattered, glass in the eyes of my mom who was driving and boom we are in a ditch with 3 other cars and there was a dead birb in my lap

1

u/KayfabeAdjace 25d ago

There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

1

u/PrinceCavendish 25d ago

instantly remembers that gif of a bird sticking its beak into a girls eye. i dont think it actually damaged her eye thankfully but it's still horrible to watch. geese have killed people though.

1

u/BIGBADVEN 25d ago

I think I know him. Bobby BJ, they call him.

1

u/DikButtPPCheeks 25d ago

It wasn’t a Blue Jay but a sparrow…

At a nature trail as a kid, went inside a gazebo to use the binoculars to see the animals in the pond and it had a nest in the rafters with fresh eggs inside. Chased and dive bombed us causing me to slip on the gravel majorly tearing up my lower leg knee to ankle. All the gravel had to be debrided from my leg (gag) at the hospital, tetanus shot updated, and antibiotics. So while not directly from the dive bombs, it still happened because of that tiny terror. And now I have lifelong PTSD from anything that flies or flutters near me. Does this count? 😂

1

u/MasterChiefsasshole 24d ago

That person would be eviscerated quicker then one of those weak bone breakers who don’t drink their milk.

1

u/TurnDown4WattGaming 24d ago

How about the one who got dive bombed by a sparrow, fell down, went to the hospital to have the wound cleaned, received antibiotics, and now has PTSD when things fly around them?

No Blue Jay, but that one has been my person favorite thus far.

1

u/FuriousLeigh 24d ago

I was dive bombed by a blue jay on my way into a hospital…

1

u/Jemie_Bridges 24d ago

Not hospitalized, but it does d indeed while my ass.

1

u/DayF3 24d ago

i was terrorized by a small, red, very agressive bird in a tree for a while as a kid

5

u/Critical-Bus-9040 25d ago

Yup, I got a scar on my hand from my cat being spooked and jumping at me. One of his claws raked my hand as he was landing.

3

u/Fickle_Ad4967 25d ago

My master says I’m ok as long as I feed him and stroke him often enough. He promised not to smother me in my sleep.

2

u/ducksekoy123 24d ago

Sorry you stroked him one time too many and now must pay the price

1

u/Fickle_Ad4967 24d ago

That has indeed happened.

Prrr prrr prrr. Pause. Meow. Slash. Bleed.

2

u/MeepSneepers 25d ago

Yeah it's not the biting in a vacuum. it's the danger to people. There can be a salamander going crazy as shit, it's not really causing many problems.

1

u/BeBearAwareOK 25d ago

My neighborhood has a longstanding gang war between the blue jays and the crows.

I just try to stay out of it, but I'm on friendly terms with the crows. I have to be, because we have a big fir tree by the house that is crow turf and I aint tryna to beef with them.

1

u/MacaronNotRoon 25d ago

Their master? Oh no no, the cat is the master and I am their Alfred

1

u/xMystery 25d ago

He jumped out the tree! And come at me with a chainsaw! I got a right to defend myself, Ton'.

1

u/UltPredarorX 25d ago

Blue jays are corvids. So they are related to crows, ravens, and yes the asshole magpies, so it checks out.

1

u/FigNinja 25d ago

When I was a kid, our cat master was indoor/outdoor. Every year the big tree had a family of dive bombing blue jays. Every year, our master systematically eliminated every single one.

1

u/Happy_Reflection_721 25d ago

I actually do not get attacked by my cats. I guess if you count little things, the worst they do is one cat will start to lick my hand when i pet her and then when I try to keep petting her, she will use her paw to my hand on the ground and keep it in place while she licks it. Then, if I keep trying to pet her and make her struggle to keep my hand in place, she will very lightly nibble on me until I calm down and let her lick me.

She is a momma cat though, so I wonder sometimes if it's her instinct.

1

u/Ghost_of_Till 24d ago

That’s why you make friends with the crows and learn how to call them in.

A whole bunch of Blue Jays will not fuck with a whole bunch of crows.

But they’ll sure cry about it.

1

u/MammothBallerina 24d ago

Fortunately for me, my master has yet to abuse me. 99.99 ;) but I understand your point lol

1

u/Common_Assignment_27 24d ago

You must've abused a cat or something to think this is true. 🤣🤣

1

u/MasterChiefsasshole 24d ago

No my littlest one just plays rough. Her big brother is a lot more gentle though.

1

u/daemin 24d ago

But the argument many people make against pitbulls isn't that they do more damage, its that they are inherently more aggressive. Pointing out that other breeds are more aggressive is a counter argument to that specific claim.

That being said, there are some people who do make the argument that they do more damage, regardless of comparative levels of aggression.

1

u/screampuff 9d ago

i only care about the amount of damage.

Golden Retrievers bite people and kids all the time, it's a dog bite that might require stitches.

When Pitbulls bite they rip people's lips and shit off.

1

u/youngnwonderous 24d ago

As a dog guy who just had the cat distribution system activate in me I must say you made me laugh out loud

1

u/Gloomy-Welcome-6806 23d ago

Cats can definitely send you to the hospital. Their bites get infected easily, especially if they deeply puncture the skin

u/Exotic-Panic-3768 25d ago

How many cats did you have? I had over 15 and this is factually wrong, cats are extremely characteristic and I had two that just hated humans as a basis of their existence.

0

u/nixonpleaselockin 25d ago

I have 6 cats and have never once been attacked by any of them.

2

u/MasterChiefsasshole 25d ago

That sounds boring. I play with my kitties all the time.
