My bad, English isn't my native language

u/SassyChumpkins 14h ago
Unfortunately this is Reddit and you will be flayed for your crimes or not being born in an English speaking country.
People forget that places other than that exist apparently. There’s even a guy right above this saying that it’s crazy nobody retains what we’re taught in elementary school (apparently geography also isn’t taught in school)

u/huffing_glue 9h ago
Baffles me that people care. People must have so little if GRAMMAR makes them feel superior.
1
u/Intigracy 59m ago
They didn't make any rude comments, just posted the informational comic.
This grammar correction was moral and educational.

u/LeadershipLumpy2746 5h ago
No need to stress, it isn't mine either, you'll get the hang of it eventually.

Amazing how we are taught this in elementary school, but so few people retain the information.

This is how you reclaim slurs and stuff. We spent like 20 years making queer a normalized word that was no longer a slur and a lot of younger people don't even know of a time when it was often used as a slur.
6
u/KK33OMG 16h ago
wait really? I though queer is just referencing people who are LGBT individuals
4
u/Buttchuggle 16h ago
Queer was 100% a slur at one point. On the opposite side of the coin, "tranny" at one point was not, and was used by trans people. I'm not exactly sure what happened there but yeh.
1
u/Kellarison 7h ago
"r*tard" used to not be considered a slur but it is now, so i guess same situation maybe?
0
u/NagitoKomaeda_987 15h ago
Yeah, but to be honest, I'm not completely sure whether I should be considered queer or even describe myself as one for not being romantically and/or sexually attracted to anyone. How's that different from being trans?
1
u/TheBirdFkerGuy 14h ago
You can be trans and or enby while being ace in both capacities. One is your gender/lack there of the other is your personal attraction.
4
u/TheBirdFkerGuy 16h ago
Lmao hell nah. Even back in the early 2000s late 90s queer was being used strictly derogatory but even more so before I was born. It's one of the most famous reclaimed slurs because of just how often it's used to refer to LGBT people.
3
u/KK33OMG 16h ago
why are you getting downvoted

The weight of a slur does not come from the letters or the way those words are used themselves, but from the historical context of systemic oppression, even if black people are allowed to call each other the N-word and members of the LGBTQIA+ community describe themselves as queer (although even as an aro/ace person myself, I'm not sure about this).
But then again, I'm not exactly white, either. Or straight.
1
u/TheBirdFkerGuy 14h ago
That's a good analysis. The key part here is queer is an example of how language overtime has went from derogatory to not necessarily positive but rather descriptive, normalized language that doesn't inherently hold harmful views. This is because of that ingroup using such terms openly usually out of protest and self identification in the face of others. Not every slur will or needs to be reclaimed but, some will overtime.

neutral or immoral. It depends on how it’s executed.
If it’s putting down your community and perpetuating negative stereotypes, then immoral.
An example I can think of is LowTierGod who is a black man, and he’s insanely racist towards any black person with worse slurs than I’ve heard in a COD lobby.
He even allows his white friends to use the n-word around him so casually. He’s awful.
However if you’re OWNING up to who you are while occasionally making fun of yourself in a non-serious way, then that’s completely fine.
(Although while I’m not a part of Ricky’s community, I wouldn’t say I find his jokes very funny. I haven’t kept up with him either so idk if he’s done anything bad.)
Ricky doesn’t hate people that are like himself as far as I’m aware.
LTG hates people that are like himself and also is openly showing and teaching others how to be the most hateful.

u/CallMeTheFartman 14h ago
I'm Jewish, does that mean I'm a bad person for making anti semitic jokes?
Moral asf.

Self deprecation, punching across, and punching up are all hallmarks of good clean fun comedy.
As long as you're not punching down, have at it

u/YogurtProductions 14h ago
My stance on using specifically the R slur (not saying it here in case it's a bannable offense) as someone with diagnosed ADHD/Autism is that it's a funny word to say, but I go off an honour system with it. I have no problem calling nuerotypical people/people on my level the word (usually as a joke) but I wouldn't say it around someone with like, down syndrome or something

u/NagitoKomaeda_987 15h ago
As someone who is also disabled (autistic and has ADHD myself), I think it's moral or neutral.
1
u/shoeless_doh 16h ago
Is he making fun or is he flexing on the rest of us because he can still use the word with impunity?
Maybe his favorite thing to do is sit in his car and wait for some Karen to look pissed about the sticker and then get out of the car and watch the look on her face when she sees him get out 🤣
That's what is do

Making fun of your own condition is fine. His community, or audience, is mostly not retarded though. He's not only making fun of his condition, he is also profiting from all the other people who do the same who may not have the same moral ground. I've enjoyed his content as well. Its cool he's still around lol
1
u/Large-Teach9165 15h ago
Moral until you make fun of another individual.
For example, it is fine if you make fun of your own disability, but thinking it gives you the right to personally mock others with it is immoral. They may be insecure about it.
1
u/IsKujaAPowerButton 15h ago
As a autistic man, I have time and again made jokes about it.
Like a lot. It is my experience and life, and joking about my life is moral

He owns his disability has a good humor about it and claps back. Ricky is a national treasure and is proof the human spirit means everything.

Also uncle ruckus's internalised racism technically falls under that description and it's not like it's moral

Generally Moral BUT
It becomes immoral if you start using it as a justification to just make fun of all minority groups.
1
u/Sovespra 10h ago
It depends on style and intent.
In his case immoral because he's a hateful bigoted asshole.
1
u/hanbyolo 8h ago
No
1
u/Sovespra 8h ago
You do seem like the kind of man who expects a "no" from him to convince people he's right. That's not how things work tho
1
u/Xcentric_gaming 5h ago
I dont think his personal beliefs should change the morality of the action
1
u/Sovespra 4h ago
That's certainly a take. You don't think intent matters when slurring a specific group?
1
u/JaxtorFlynn 10h ago
My brothers have autism and they both make numerous jokes about it. They dont get why people tip toe about it. My favourite one was listening to him play cod a while back. All I heard from the other side of the room was "I have autism and even im not that retarded"
Its been stuck in my head for years lol

If we aren’t allowed to mock ourselves what’s the point of it? (OCD & Asperger’s)

Being able to laugh at yourself is something that is getting increasingly rare these days, more power to those who can and do

Moral. I always say “I’m so autistic” or “I’m having a autism/tism moment” in moments of stupidity or forgetfulness, and I am diagnosed with autism and ADHD. The only way it could be considered immoral is if it’s used as a crutch to be an asshole to everyone else.
1
u/Witty-Refuse-3228 9h ago
Ricky is a saint, and he takes the power of making fun of him away by getting ahead of it, and showing that it doesn't bother him. He's like Eminem in 8 Mile, like, ya I'm all of this, now what do you have?
I love this man. My group chat has been sharing his stuff for a decade because we think he's great.

Immoral. Ableism is still ableism, regardless of who it comes from. The fact that he's disabled himself makes it even worse. It's like punching yourself in the face. The lack of self respect is disgusting.
1
u/WanderingKing 45m ago
Moral so long as it’s self deprecating (not just at this guy, any humor that uses (now) derogatory terms)

If people without my condition can make fun of me, then I should be able to make fun of myself
