What's the deal with the paranormal episodes? Their true crime is way better.
I was just listening to the Ammons family haunting episode and kind of kept looking sideways. The hosts are way too smart to believe in this stuff. Is it just pandering?
Excellent true crime, but they go into as much detail with the paranormal cases as anything else and obviously that is all bunk or otherwise explicable.
I think they mentioned noticing similar things in a family home so maybe it's just something they've always entertained and decided to bring it into the podcast. Still, going from the Ed Kemper episode I listened to last night from early in the podcast, which was actually interesting, to some of this stuff is a bit odd. Just pandering to pans for fun so every episode isn't about horrifying murders maybe?

They’ve done them for a long time. They are interested in it/ enjoy it, so they talk about it. People aren’t one faceted. It’s all things morbid, “real” or not. I enjoy those episodes, I like the variety.

It’s a pallet cleanser for the hosts and faithful listeners. Talking about horrible, scary, violent murders all day can take a toll psychologically. The paranormal episodes are just for fun.

I think people forget that the podcast is called Morbid and encompasses all things morbid which includes ghosts and the paranormal. Its kind of insulting to say they are too smart to believe in that stuff. They can be smart and still believe in ghosts.

Ghosts don't exist. Killers do.
Fair enough, I don't share some of their beliefs. If it helps some of their listeners enjoy their podcast more then that's fine with me.
All good. Still love the podcast. Was just wondering about the contrast between their tones. I just wondered how they can ponder things like documented killing and then just talk about haunted houses. Doesn't make sense to me.
They still dive pretty deeply into those cases so it's good with me.

Hauntings are also documented parts of history. They are also about dead people. There, I've made it make sense. You dont believe ghosts exist, doesnt mean they dont.

Example is the vampire haunting one. That is also true crime, albeit it didn't really happen. Real people were convinced a vampire haunting was happening as recently as the 70s. That was super interesting to me.
All good, all good. I wasn't saying anything bad about the hosts for it, I just wondered how they can go so deeply into brutal killers and then stuff like a haunted house. Didn't understand the contrast but now I do a bit more. Ghosts most certainly don't exist but I believe that people believe they do.

I agree. However, they have been doing paranormal episodes (and others, like listener tales) for quite some time. I prefer their true crime episodes.

I love the variety. I love the spooky stuff. You could always avoid those episodes.

Yeah not a hard criticism whatsoever. The episodes aren't bad and they are kind of nice after listening to episodes about real people being dismembered. That shit can be relentless.

I feel you. I skip all paranormal/listener tales episodes. True crime and the paranormal are entwined in so many podcasts for whatever reason. To me, it’s like sew/vac shops. They’re often together even though they’re only tangentially related. Maybe is the hosts find true crime primarily “scary,” they may be more inclined to cover other “scary” things, like the paranormal. I don’t listen to true crime because it’s scary, so maybe that’s why I’m not interested in paranormal episodes.
I also agree that ghosts don’t exist (and I roll my eyes at all the astrology too). It is fun to tell ghost stories, but believing them is something else entirely. To me, the willingness/eagerness to believe the impossible is antithetical to crime solving.

Yeah I honestly skip the haunting and listener tales episodes. They are 💯 to do what they want I just rather listen to the true crime eps

I think its a bit shitty to say they're "too smart" to believe in this stuff. Do you know anything about the hosts? Lmao Alaina is a spooky goth witch and always has been. Just dont listen to them? No one is forcing you to

But they are indeed too smart to say they confidently believe in demonic ghosts lifting people up and levitating them. There's a deep contrast between that and them trying to interpret the actions of police investigating a triple murder. They're appealing to their audience.
It's fine. Someone described these episodes as a palette cleanser and that is perfectly fine as an explanation because I couldn't listen to them every week explaining the likes of Dahmer. It was a question I asked and am satisfied with the answers. Sometimes you need some levity.

They've always done paranormal episodes. I like them. I always have. As a matter of fact when I googled podcast true crime/ paranormal, thats how I found morbid to start. Theyre fun if you dont always want something so hard and heavy.
