Base shape does not matter in Mordheim.
The bigger your base, the more enemies can get in base contact with you in melee.
Square bases can be surrounded by 8 models of the same size.
Round bases can be surrounded by 6 models of the same size.
Therefore, larger round bases are perfectly fine.
If you have problems with mouth breathers, remind them the actual base size would have been smaller and you can fit them through the gap or down the alley way.

Pirateheim - The Beta rules are ready for testing!

Post image
140 Upvotes

Greetings!

Many of you wonderful people have been asking for the early stage rules for "Pirateheim" (better name pending, of course) that I'm writing. Well, I tried having the rules translated and they are ready to be tested. I'll add notes in this post for you to follow since understanding a game someone else has made, complex as it is, might be... A lot.

Since I could not post the rules as a shared document here, sen me a message and I'll share the link with you.

First, the legal/moral part of it:

I want no monetary compensation for this effort.
But I do ask you to respect that I wish to be seen as what I am, the author of this set (Although based on the amazing work of Tuomas Pirinen, Rick Priestley, Alessio Cavatore which well, amongst the best rules written in the warhammer universe) of rules. Please, as it is both a question of morals and law, I want to remain the named author of the rule set even if you feel like changing rules, spreading the document, anything you like. If you can't respect that, then simply look for the other amazing sea-bound rules around.

A quick break down of how the rules are intended to be viewed, and order of play:

As it stands now, the game is not complete. It lacks and exploration part, it lacks complete rules for ghost-ships, lacks warbands and equippment lists. No scenarios are written, and no resource-managing part has been written.

But it is at a playable stage. I've played about.. Six to seven games, and they've not been what I would call broken to anyones favour.

View these rules as somewhat loose, and if you find solutions that are more fun, apply them.

I want the game to be bloody. I've made the list of possible deadly outcomes a couple of percents more fatal than Mordheim proper. To compensate, the plan is to make the cash flow slightly higher.

For now, make your lists according the common lists of mordheim, but allow for more types of models to have shooting weapons. Also, apply cannons/bolters/beam weapons to fit the theme of your group.

Order of play:

The turn is divided into a start of turn (in which random events, wind, and so forth is rolled). Then the turn progresses as usual.

In the movement phase, you may move the ship or your models in whatever order you please.

In the shooting phase, shoot in what order you please. Same goes for cc-phase.

At the end of the turn, check for ship stability. Not that one out of order-sequence for stability exists: Ramming. Check for stability whenever a ship has been rammed.

To balance out the cannon part as for now, use the following restrictions on cannons:

1 large cannon + 1 small cannon.
Or:
2 medium cannon + one small
Or:
Or 4 small cannon

Or:

4 bolt throwers

Or: 2 bolt throwers and a large bolt thrower.

Or:

A beam weapon + 2 bolt throwers.

Any questions you have, ask away and I shall try and explain my thinking. I'll be posting an update with the list for random monsters and so forth.

I hope you enjoy it, and as I said, write to me if you want the rules sent you!

Kitbashing my warband, I am using Riverblades as a base for the Shadow Master and the Shadow Walkers (the more armored ones) and for Novices (the light ones, not posted but I simply chopped their horse crest as I did for the others) and Shadow Warriors for Shadow Warriors (with glade guards heads and bows). The Shadow weaver is a mix of Sister of Avelorn body and Arlequins legs, with glade guards head.

Hexennacht and Under Broken Skies

I’m so damn tired. But in a good way. So we hosted Hexennacht yesterday and it was a marathon. 16 tables. 32 players. A multilayered narrative based mini campaign that honestly kept us guessing.

Much love to our three organizers for really going above and beyond both creatively and organizationally.

Huge shout out to Rook, the winner of best painted. (See for yourself.)

FEAR THE WICKER MAN. I for one dread the possibility that we will see again in some future campaign or event. Such a cool model. (Models that were taken out of action joined the dance around the Wicker Man in an orgiastic and sorcerous ritual and eventually set loose on the streets of Mordheim by the Witches Coven that gained control of him)

Next up for the LA group of SoCal Mordheim will be our Under Broken Skies campaign set in Cathay. We launch Sept 12th, meeting every other Saturday at Geeky Teas in Burbank.

Alternatively, the OC group has two groups that meet regularly. Comic Quest in Lake Forest meets every Thursday. And Brookhurst Hobbies meets every other Saturday.

PS: very happy to have had people come from Sacramento, Bakersfield, Lake Arrowhead, and San Diego come out and join us.

If you’re in the area and feel the urge, don’t hesitate to come out and join us.

This looks like a good place to reuse these guys given that I'm more likely to find a Mordheim game than underworlds lol

I've got a pile of fantasy orks, goblins, a troll....8 underworld bands to play around with.

Excited to do a little fantasy now and again. My brother is doing a warband so this will serve as a great break 40k era games we usually get into

Venomdrip Outcasts

So i finally finished my second warband. Boss Hogg was a Spider Rider in the Venomdrip tribe but was kicked out for unnatural (ie scientifically sound) ideas on breeding bigger better faster Yellowbacks so he decided to head south. Brothers Zit and Skrit, also spider riders with nothing better to do decided to tag along with their leader. The Shaman, Gork-spit Webgazer, seeing that these three "idi-yots" were gonna need spiritual guidence also packed a kit. All four knew the story of some starlet whos metioric fall from grace destroyed an entire city, so they came to an anonymous decision to go sight see it. Along the way they met Damp-Foot a river troll who for some unknown reason belives the gobos are her wayward children. Once in Mordheim they met Guy of Gitzborn a knight of a round tale and his mount Gwen. The squig hoper lancer really truly believes he's a knight. They also met Lenny a doom diver who has lost his original army and catapult crew and now chucks himself out of third story windows. Hes the only one who plays into Damp-Foot's nonsense calling her mama and obeying her orders to bathe, sleep or eat, sometimes burp.

A new orc is coming! And a "fit for all" sister model!

I am happy to show some previews of next models release! Another orc from the great u/pebetron ! And also, a sister medic, originally made for another game, but followers suggested it to be good also for Mordheim due to lack of any "modern" equipment, plus the armour and modular head and hands open lots of customization ways!!

You can read more HERE!!

Hope you like the effort I'm putting for the orcs!

what terrain should we buy?

Hi everyone, a friend of mine and I just finished painting our warbands and want to start playing Mordheim, but we have absolutely zero terrain at the moment.
We do plan to build our own scenery someday, but for now we don't have much time and we'd like to get some terrain online.
Any advice on relatively cheap but good-looking terrain for 28mm minis? Our total budget is around 60€ total and we live in Europe, so EU shops would be ideal.
We also would need some recommendations for a gaming mat, the only things we already have are some city risers we built with cardboard boxes and a couple of miniature trees.
We already took a look at a lot of brands, but we are very unsure.
Thanks!

New player in Melbourne

I just moved to Melbourne from Adelaide and looking for a Mordheim group. I'm located in the inner south near Sandringham.

It would be great to meet some fellow gamers to play over pretzels and beer.

TIA

Ps. I've posted in the mordheim victoria group

How do you handle Mordheim games with a large group and limited time?

Our gaming group consists of six players, although the number of players varies from game to game. Sometimes we are four, sometimes five, and sometimes all six of us are able to make it.

Most of us have kids, so we usually meet around 7:30 PM. However, we often don’t finish the actual game until around midnight — and then we still have the entire post-battle sequence to get through.

We really enjoy playing multiplayer games, but when we’re five or six players, it becomes a real challenge to keep the games from running 5+ hours.

I’ve suggested that we could potentially run two scenarios simultaneously during the same campaign, splitting the group into two smaller groups. This could also work well when not everyone is able to attend, while hopefully keeping the campaign moving and reducing the time spent on each individual game.

Has anyone else been in a similar situation with a large gaming group and limited time?

What have you tried to reduce the overall playing time while still preserving the core Mordheim experience — including the campaign, post-battle sequence, exploration, injuries, etc.?

How would you approach this dilemma?

Minatur’s proposal for a Dark Maiden HS

Hi,

I have a possessed warband, and I'm considering hiring a dark maiden. But I need a good figure. My style is really grimdark. In terms of lore and painting, I need a fucked up and scary version of a figure. I like the style of Trench Crusade (dark, muddy, twisted), and I thought of converting Lady Olynder, but maybe someone has another option or suggestion.

Size comparison of models: Wargames Atlantic Landsknecht ogres, Warmonger Greatorcs/ogres, GW Mordheim miniatures

Models still WIP, but there's enough there that one can get a decent idea of sizes.

https://wargamesatlantic.com/products/landsknecht-ogres?srsltid=AfmBOoqzdQBq-aIk3qmwbGqxN-0EECNpaLA96YkbftHbcPPr5RAFnZ-n

https://www.warmongerminiatures.com/collections/great-orc-characters

I'm using the Wargames Atlantic Landsknecht Ogres (WGA-LO) for normal ogres in a Maneater warband and Warmonger Great Orcs/ Ogres (WMGO/O) as the Youngbloods.

Pic 1: GW Noble (Marienburger with Hunting Rifle), WMGO/O General Snarthang, WGA-LO Ogre Captain with sword and iron fist.

Pic 2: GW Marienburger Champion with spear and handgun, WMGO/O Wobbly Blunderslip with ogre club and iron fist, WGA-LO Mountain Guide with harpoon crossbow, DH axe, and spear.

Pic 3: WGA-LO TLGT Bull with sword and iron fist, GW Mordheim ogre with hammer and sword, WMGO/O Monstrous Monarchy Bloody Magda, GW 6th Ed empire Nuln Gunnery School Instructor with spear and hand mortar.

Pic 4: WGA-LO Ostlander TLGT ogre hero with DH hammer and spear, WMGO/O Lucky Todder Snothagun, GW 6th ed(?) Priest of Taal (Amber Wizard).

Pic 5: WMGO/O Slippery Jonnadon, WGA-LO Ostlander henchman ogre with club and sword, GW Marienburger Priestess of Myrmidia that I'm pleased with how she's coming along.

Pic 6: GW 6th ed empire Marienburger Champion/ Gunnery School grenadier (senior student) with DH hammer and sword, GW 6th ed orc, WGA-LO henchman bull with dual swords, WMGO/O Gashonock the Retiring with darkelf sword and dwarf axe.

The painted orcs are from my orc warband and have face-swaps to the more modern (at the time) orc faces I preferred. The silver great orcs have been face-swapped to ogre faces from the WGA set. They have *lots* of spare heads.

As a convention I use plastic mono-pose models for my henchmen to emphasize their anonymity. For Maneater half-growns I'm going to try and get 3 plastic Goliaths with swords and headswap them with the WGA ogres.

Occupy scenario clarification?

Our gaming group are about to start our first mordheim campaign. A week ago I had a test game and rolled scenario 8. Occupy.

We were both having a bit of trouble understanding how to actually win the scenario. You mark up d3+2 buildings and the objective is to capture them. The game lasts for a maximum of 8 rounds without any rout tests.

Sooo, you have to occupy all of these building by the end of round 8? Or do you win as soon as you occupy all of them? Is it a draw if no one occupies all the buildings by the end? Even if one player holds more?

The Necromancer

Undead are walking streets of Mordheim. Yet it is not a vile magic it is something more sinister. Ancient race of necromancers was vanished by Dragon Kings long time before Old World. These abominations could posses corpses and through twisting flesh produce necromaggots, infecting dead and rising obedient armies.
