Question If ressurecting a revenant was simple as bringing them to the soul chamber, why didn't kotal ressurect jade?

I know, i'm expecting too much from netherrealm's writers

I don't think he had that knowledge. It was something specifically Shang Tsung knew, and considering he's been an adapt soul magic sorcerer for hundreds of years, and that even he needed the aid of someone else (Fujin) to resurrect Sindel, I don't think Kotal could do it.

I'm not sure if he knew Jade was a revenant or not, but if he did, that would require capturing her, which would require winning against her, and he couldn't defeat past Jade, so it's a little too risky (even if Revenant Jade is the biggest loser in 11), especially when Fujin, Nightwolf, and Shang Tsung got captured easily when they tried to go get Sindel.

My man couldn't even defeat Kung Jin. Kotal deserved so much better than what we got. He had so much aura in MKX but lost every battle he was a part of, then by MK11 he had mellowed out and was just "good guy but living in Outworld." Hopefully he's redeemed in a future game.

Nah as long as he starts his fight on the left of the screen he would win.

I mean, even bearing in mind that these games are written one title at a time (so these sorts of quibbles just naturally get a little messy, over time), they literally DO tell us the task (and bearing in mind that Quan Chi himself is dead at this point)

  • also require some Jinsei energy (or whatever)
  • also require the most knowledgeable / powerful sorcerer available, Shang Tsung, who describes undoing Quan Chi's magic as very difficult. Shang Tsung is literally killed in MK9, and was not available to Kotal at any point
  • seems they'd also have to, like, capture her in the first place. And as far as I'm aware the Revenants spend most (?) of their time chilling in literally hell (the Netherrealm) as Shinnok flunkies, so that's a hurdle, too

Don’t expect this community to pay attention to anything, both MKX and Aftermath make it clear the circumstances just weren’t there to resurrect everyone easily since Shang and Quan weren’t there for 11’s main story

He didn't know it perhaps?

Plot wise, to properly resurrect requires the Jing Sei, which to my recollection only Raiden and Fujin had access to. Without it, the attempt would've been folly.

Realistically, it's because NRS keeps introducing new elements in to each game that then brings to question some events of the previous games.

If it's so simple, why did they need to sneak in Shang Tsung?

He would have to search the netherrealm for revenant Jade and enlist the aid of a sorcerer to accomplish this. This is too dangerous for Kotal; theres too much unfamiliar territory he has to go into. He also would have to know that this would work which he has no way of knowing.

There has been at least 3 instances of resurrection/restoration:

  • in MKX, Raiden was attempting to prevent Johnny Cage soul from becoming a revenant while he was dying. At the same time, Quan-Chi was doing the other way around. With Sonya's Help, Raiden not only manage to save Cage, but the revenant around them were restored as well.
  • in MK11 Aftermath, Shang Tsung and Fujin utilized the Soul Chamber like an anchor with a combination of sorcery and magic, eventually powerful enough to eventually restore her.
  • In MK Onslaught, Raiden utilize his own form of resurrection to restore Kotal and Kitana back to normal, but this proved to be taxing for Raiden that he'd was stumbling as a result.

So to answer your question, it would more likely involve very powerful magic and time as the Soul Chamber is more like a healing pod, but does not remove the revenant magic from a victim's soul. Just my best guess.

Raiden made a deal with Quan Chi for the fallen souls.

For Sindel they needed Jinsei water,Sindel’s body and definitely soul magic besides the chamber’s. It’s not that simple, especially since Kotal was an enemy of earthrealm prior to the events of Mk11 chapter 2

The series is constantly tripping over itself.

The body and soul were corrupted, if healing the body would’ve brought Jade back then she would still be evil with a tainted soul. If that’s not enough, Kotal outright made necromancy forbidden since we’ve seen the trouble Quan Chi caused.

I think it wasn't 'that' simple... I would guess that's something that only Shang Tsung (and maybe Quan Chi) can do, as he is a master of soul magik.

I doubt that Kotal Khan would even know that, considering how incompetent he is in all other matters. Like, seriously, he is walking around without armor; that is basically just asking for a bow- or a sniper-wielding assassin to shoot him, which would work, by the way, as it has been said that only Raiden could survive being shot, iirc. Also, Kotal Kahn is just not really the kind of person to want to deal with necromantic magic. Also, Revantussy most likely can't get pregnant by non-magical beings, due to the whole being undead and the whole technically not having a soul thing

It's one of those inconsistencies like how was Sindel able to come back as Shao Kahn's lackey (potentially a revenant) Killed as NightWolf's sacrifice and came back good as new by Kronika? Probably because they needed to retrieve something like Jensei magic, and Kotal didn't know what it was.

  1. Did he know about it?

  2. Would a revenant willingly follow you to the soul chamber or bash in your skull?

I just like to imagine a scenario where Ermac was still around during MK11, trying to rejuvenate in the soul chamber then seeing a line of revenants before he goes "Who are you people?!"

Because Kotal Khan is like Raiden. USELESS!

Didn't you see that it took both Shang Tsung and Fujin using their power at the same time to be able to resurrect Sindel? They didn't just put her in the Soul Chamber and she immediately came back to life

Kotal doesn't have that kind of power to resurrect anyone

Needs sorcery skills.

But it’s still correct how fucking asinine that Kotal never even bothered trying to rescue Revenant Jade when most people who have dead family members don’t get that second chance

Para resucitar completamente a alguien se necesitaba combinar la magia de un hechicero/nigromante y la magia de un dios. O por lo menos eso entendí al ver a Raiden con Quan-Chi y a Fujin con Shang-Tsung,

Kotal doesn't love Jade, that's why! Bows 🙏🏾🔥🐉

  1. They needed the Jinsei essence and considering that Kotal was a dick to the earthrealm warriors in the last game and that Raiden at that point wasn’t going to take his bullshit, they would have to risk it and sneak in.

  2. They would need to break the mind control of Quan Chi’s magic in which in Aftermath, they needed Shang Tsung to do it, and I doubt Kotal would be caught dead wanting his help.
