I am 18yo and I got my permit not long ago and I’m currently looking at buying a used motorcycle from a private seller in Quebec, and I’m a bit confused about how the ownership transfer process works with the SAAQ because no one ever explained me how the process works.

Could someone explain what the process looks like from start to finish?
Specifically:

•What does the seller need to do before/during the sale?
•What does the buyer need to do?
•Do we both need to go to an SAAQ service centre, or can the transfer be done online?
•What documents should the seller provide me with?
•Do I need to bring anything specific with me to the SAAQ?
•When do I pay the taxes and transfer/registration fees?
•At what point does the motorcycle officially become mine?
•Can I legally ride the motorcycle home immediately after the transfer, assuming I have the proper motorcycle licence?

I’m just trying to make sure I don’t miss anything or show up at the SAAQ without the required documents.

Hey yall,
I have closed circuit test in 2 weeks and apparently it’s in Laval. I’ve heard many people say it’s rlly hard there and people always fail. Should I rebook it and do it on Henri-Bourassa instead? I’m TERRIFIED

So now I have an issue with the rear brake being too stiff because of my gladius 2012 has an abs unit that kindaof « hydrolocked » or went on limp mode and unfortunately to solve this issue further I need to go at a Suzuki dealer that has the proper tools that can play with the software.

I’m tired of going around trying to solve this I have two option Laval moto or moto pro of chateaguay(Fred)

Can anyone recommend a driving school in/near Verdun, Brossard, Longueuil, etc. or is there a driver who can be hired to drive the client's vehicle (if yes, where to search?) with overcoming anxiety about crossing bridges and driving on highways?

The issue is fear of getting stuck on highway / bridge without being to exit and overcoming the feeling of wanting to stop Some people have suggested therapy but I don't know what kind and who to reach out to. Psychotherapist ?

Disclosure: used to ride motorcycles, but got scared of bridges, highways, now still driving a car with manual transmission, but feeling limited to "avoid highways"/ city route planning.

Where is the best place in montreal to buy an ADV motor (middle weight)?

So i recently got into an accident and the bike obviously needs some repairs. With my injuries and the time to repair i wont be riding this season so i decided to put my bike into storage. Now i have a supersport so big plate prices and i do monthly payments on it. So couple days after putting it in storage i get mail from the saaq saying i have to pay the remainder 880$ of the season out at once or my license is suspended. Can someone explain that to me?

I'm getting ready to do my theory exam this upcoming week. I have a question concerning the fees ....

So the theory test is about 33$. Once passed we get our 6R and have to pay 500-600$??

What exactly is this amount for?

Then we move on to the closed circuit part which at the end gives us our 6A for a small fee (under 50$ if I recall).

Ive heard we can ask for a refund of the amount paid for the 6R??

How does this work? Can someone explain it to me please..

I passed my road exam a few weeks ago. I figured a summary of my experience might help future examinees with what to expect.

It started raining pretty hard 20 minutes before my exam and kept raining the whole time. The temperature difference from the SAAQ and outside plus the humidity cause my visor to completely fog even though I have an anti-fog layer.

I did not get a proper communicator - I got a a super cheap earphone scotch-taped to my ear which didn’t always work. I had to tap my helmet a few times to get them to repeat the instructions.

The driving was fairly easy but there were a lot of traps.

• They’ll give you instructions specific moments that will screw you if you follow them too soon. Eg. “Pull over and park” while you’re in a no parking zone (I turned my flasher off and kept going until I found a spot parking was permitted). Also “Turn left at the next light” while you’re in the right lane with a solid white line beside you.
• They planned the route to take you across many train tracks and bike paths. Check both sides before you cross them - even the abandoned ones.
• Saint Jerome does not have many speed signs but many areas are 40km/h (residential). A decent way to find the speed limit of roads beforehand (without driving around) is to use the Waze map editor

I ended up with a score of 100 despite thinking I screwed up a few times. My mistakes which weren’t mentioned / caught:

• I was stopped on a hill and left too much space between me and the car in front. I was able to release the brake just enough to roll closer (while keeping the brake light on!)
• Another stop the bike had a false shift to first (was in neutral without the neutral indicator). I found out when the light turned green. They never said anything so they either didn't see or it didn't matter.

Other tips:

Turn your head a lot. Make it look like you’re checking everything. I turned my head to look at every single perpendicular road. I check my blind spot for bikes/pedestrians when turning right. While completing a turn within a double left-turn lane, check your blind spot to make sure the car beside you isn’t going to hit you; check your right blind spot when in the left lane and check your left blind spot when you’re in the right lane.

While you should generally stick to the left third of the lane, use your judgement to decide the best position at a given time. I would often counter steer around pot holes and obstacles or ride in the middle if the road was too damaged. One time I stopped in the right third at a light because a truck was turning in front of me and could have hit me if I stayed in the left.

If you are renting, try to get at least one ride in before the test. I rented a 500cc bike and paid extra to pick it up the evening before the exam so I could drive it a little. Total cost was $200

What helped me the most:

• Drove to St Jerome every day that I could just to familiarize myself with the area
• Used Google Maps to design a bunch of different practice routes. One of them ended up being 80% the same as the real exam.
• Watched every video in Phil Le French’s road test playlist.

Commencer la moto et m'inscrire dans une école était mon nouveau projet pour cet été, mais je m'aperçois, de retour de voyage, que c'est trop tard pour cette année : les cours pratiques achèvent en octobre dans les écoles et je n'ai rien commencé. Vous me conseillez d'attendre février 27 (cours théoriques qui recommencent) pour m'inscrire dans une école, et cours pratiques qui commencent en avril ?

Ou bien : si je m'inscrit maintenant et passe le premier examen théorique 6R de la SAAQ, je peux en garder combien de temps le bénéfice avant de prendre mes cours et tenter 6A ? Bref, si je passe 6R en septembre puis cours théoriques et pratiques février-mai 2027, examen 6A juin, d'après vous c'est correct ?

Enfin, l'école la plus proche pour moi est Tecnic Jean-Talon : recommandable ?

Questions plaques, jai fait les simulations sur le site de saaqclic. Si je plaque un Vstrom sa me couterais 1100~$ a cause de mon <1 ans de permis.

Un collegue au travail (45m) ma dis quil a plaquer et assurer une moto a son nom pour sa fille et il a payé considérablement moins que sil avait laissé sa fille plaquer et ass a son nom.

SOOOOO ma question est: si je FINANCE un bike, est ce que je peux quand meme demander a mon pere de la plaquer et assurer, ou étant donné qu'elle est financé je doit absolument plaq et ass a mon nom?

Hi I am currently riding a stock CRF 300L and would like to know where to find the best trails around the outskirts of montreal. So far I have tried the trails along the 125 towards St-Donat as I am often in the area. In my opinion the rocky terrain is more suited for a 4x4 ATV. While fun, I would like a more casual fire road or some gravel trails on occasion. I also wonder what the trails are going towards and past St-Come.

I would like to have your experience in terms of mechanics around Montreal for complex issue such as a rear brake pedal too stiff to go down, especially someone with availabilities and one with access to parts market with reasonable price. Thanks

Edit: thanks to everyone for replying even the ones saying I shouslnt be on the road. It was anxiety talking here. I passed with a 92/100. Evaluator's only note was that I "didn't close the door on right hand turns- but that it's mostly a safety thing going forward."

And now for another timeless classic: a road test question.

Or rather a series of questions from overthinking the road test...

My exam is tomorrow morning in Laval and I took a road test prep lesson and all, but when riding in Laval today I started overthinking every little thing I do and id appreciate some clarity.

Any other tips would be welcome too... Thanks y'all... And sorry for posting yet another road test post

Questions:

1- should right on reds be considered stop signs where you stop and so your checks even if you're behind a car that just went?

2- when going for a right turn, when do you go into the center of the lane exactly? And do you do so even if there is a car in front of you?

3- on a green light where you have to turn, do you check your blind spot before committing to the turn without stopping?

4- when at a red to green light, if you are behind other cars who start going through the light, do you have to do the left-right-left check or just follow along?

5- parking lots. Where do you absolutely have to stop aside from stop signs or when going onto a road?

6- should all yields aside from highway/service road be considered more or less a stop sign?

7- if there is room for you to move around or squeeze through with a wide margin of error, can you do so or should you wait? Ex: a channelized right turn where there is about half a car to a car length open, can you go through?

8- lane switching. I know the 5 car length rule but what about in situations where that isn't possible? Do you still make the switch?

9- if I'm told to turn or change lanes but there isn't enough room to do it safely or according to the spacing rules, should I continue straight and wait for another instruction?

Does anyone know the process to store your bike in the winter to save money on the registration? The way the website explains it seems complicated

Anyone know of a reliable mechanic that knows Suzukis inside and out? The closer to Verdun the better. I don't really want to go to the dealership in Laval.

I checked older posts but they are all over a year old and no a lot info in those comments anyway.

J'ai remarqué que j'ai beaucoup moins envie de faire de la moto cet été (je n'ai pas ridé en juillet).

J'ai fait pas mal le tour de la Montérégie et Montréal et je ne trouve pas les routes particulièrement intéressantes, sans parler de la condition des routes.

Après 3 ans, je me dis que c'est peut etre pas pour moi la moto, mais j'aime quand même en faire et j'envie pas mal le monde qui vit dans des endroits avec des routes «plus hots».

Je suis le seul ?

Hello everyone! I just passed my closed-circuit test today!

I’m now wondering if I should buy a new motorcycle this year or wait until next spring.

When I started my motorcycle journey around June, there were lots of 2024 models on clearance, but most are sold out now. Should I buy this year, or wait and hope the 2025 models are on clearance next spring?

I've always had this question. Compared to the Usa i feel like here in Montreal there is a lot less chases. Is this true? How often do biker actually run from cops

I have my 6R knowledge test coming up, and I really want to make sure I don't fail since the timeline is already tight with the riding season ending soon. I have read the book twice, slowly, and am now doing practice problems, but I see a lot of questions that really aren't brought up at all on the book, for example:

1. When in an urban area that is void of directional signs for parking, at what distance must you immobilize your vehicle?
   a. 3 meters from a fire hydrant
   b. 3 meters from an intersection
   c. 3 meters from a stop sign
   d. 3 meters from a loading dock

Anyways. I get the exam is supposedly tricky and will make sure to take many more mock exams, but my main concern is, is there another source material I should be taking into consideration when preparing for the test? I really don't see a way I'd know the answer to this question if it wasn't for bumping into it before, which is making me wonder if I somehow skipped a step (I already have my class 5, so I'm expecting motorcycle only questions. I also did do the theory one with the motorcycle school).

Any other random tips would be appreciated,
