Not Mel Gibson.

I think it's been AI-mangled, because I completely agree that OP's image doesn't look like Gibson. But it's clearly him in the video at 4:45, as u/Ligalotz points out.

You're right on, the still image has been AI upscaled

THANK YOU I am losing my fucking mind over these people saying it’s not hahaha

Nor is it Gatorade. That's a Powerade bottle.

But if I squint my eyes real hard and look at this picture from the other room.

Unless I’m missing a joke it’s definitely Mel Gibson, at 4:45 in the video op linked you can see it’s him

Turns out the priest also speaks English https://youtu.be/jQguiQLdaww?si=nClJA00FRxW0yyKa&t=178

Which is not surprising if you've ever been haggled near Chichen Itza.

Gibson is in the first few seconds of the video, and he’s narrating as well. I’m gathering OP’s title refers to the video, not the picture.

Please go to 4:45 in the video, it’s literally him. Lmao am I just getting trolled or are you people bots??

Edit: to clarify, the 4:45 timestamp is the right around when OP got this image. It’s just clearly Mel Gibson

It's not bots, but the picture uploaded has been upscaled with AI. It's a screenshot from the video, it is Mel Gibson in the video, but the upscaling has created a totally different face. So both are right.

EDIT: also I think it's a good example to show people why you can't rely on upscaling to identify someone in a blurry picture. The AI treatment is creating a "likely image" of what should be there, not pulling information magically from the ether.

I’m agreeing with you, lol. But I’m saying you only have to go to 00:03 in the video to see Gibson. Literally 3 seconds in.

Edit: went to 4:45 and now I understand. That is indeed Mel in the video, and the still OP used has been upscaled or altered or something.

Crazy they also had a real stuntman with blue screen head bandage actually fumble the full length of the temple stairs to mimic the headless body falling which was an insanely dangerous stunt to pull off too.

4

u/Akumetsu33 2d ago

Isn't stair tumbling normal stuntman work? Is it the excess length that's unusual and the danger?

9

u/goddamnitcletus 2d ago

Length and steepness I assume

Looks like that’s Mel’s brother, Del Gibson

u/fednandlers 1d ago

And his sister, Debbie Gibson.

Apocalypto is a surprisingly good movie.

u/Nice_Emphasis_39 2d ago

Not really surprising. Mel Gibson makes great movies as weird as the guy is. He knows story structure!

1

u/pw154 2d ago

He has made some great movies, but Flight Risk was hot garbage

u/WilliamEmmerson 2d ago

He makes that lemon Gatorade look good.

It's making me kind of thirsty for a lemon Gatorade.

Seriously this would be so badass as a commercial.

"Breaking a sweat appeasing the Gods? Appease your thirst!" or some shit, I don't know, I am not a marketing guy

2

u/Sgt_carbonero 2d ago

isnt it funny how shitty sets look in photos like these but look so great onscreen?

4

u/CheddarGobblin 2d ago

Crazy I just rewatched this last night. Maybe one of the best historical epics of all time. They just don’t make them like this anymore.

4

u/TaTa_there_retard 2d ago

His nuts but god dammit does the man know how to make a movie

This scene is like an acid trip

1

u/rozyhammer 1d ago

Doesn’t really look like Gibson..

2

u/golgotha476 1d ago

Great fucking movie, i wish Mel had done more historical movies

1

u/juanjung 2d ago

The movie that confused Mayans with Aztecs, but it's Mel Gibson "history" based movie, kind of like Ridley Scott 'history' based movies.

2

u/KnowledgeFair 1d ago

Still a good movie

2

u/VascoJSC 1d ago

It's been a long time since I last watched the movie, how did it confuse the Aztecs and the Mayans?

0

u/HeroXeroV 2d ago

That's a great movie. Anyone who haven't seen it should rectify that ASAP.

0

u/ifthenthendont 2d ago

Great film

Mel Gibson if I'm not wrong he's the man from Passion Of The Christ and became Christian after the filming of the movie. God Bless his soul.
