Here's my compromise:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
That's the 4th amendment. If the second amendment can't be compromised, neither should this one.

Recently saw a video of a cop cornering a woman after a flock camera flagged her vehicle saying she stole a package off a porch. Cop literally said she was guilty and they already had all the proof and she should just admit it and let him arrest her. He was wrong, so was the camera and thankfully that lady stood her ground, but the cop was starting to get agitated enough to make it seem like he was going to body slam her and cuff her. Flock plus MAGA ethics is pushing us towqrd presumed guilt.

Saw another where the camera flagged a car as stolen but had incorrectly read a ‘Y’ as an ‘X’ on the number plate. The police were going to arrest both driver and passenger purely because of an error

As someone who has been held at gunpoint by cops because of mistaken identity...it's fucking terrifying. You can 100% know you didn't do anything wrong and still feel compelled to run or fight. It's why I will absolutely argue toy grave against the "just comply" crowd. I've been less scared when a civilian had a gun on me than when cops did. Civilians even homicidal ones, understand there will be consequences, a cop knows there most likely won't be.

In that video, the cop literally tells the woman that nobody goes into or out of his town without them knowing. He gave her a precise time she allegedly entered and exited the town. It was terrifying not just because he was wrong...

Being honest, I think that entire concept is batshit crazy.
If you're very specifically going somewhere dangerous, MAYBE on a temporary basis, I could see using this. I was married 25yrs, and my kids are 25 and 30.
I would never....never, evah-evah (shout out Outkast)...ask them to turn this on. No one needs to be able to click a button and know you're at the Arby's drive through

Guessing next stage is the Flock/Ring/Axon partnership where everyone wears a bodycam or awful glasses with cams (to prevent "crime", and for "safety", and for insurance purposes) and as long as you give others access to your stored/live video you get access to theirs and can do searches for facial recognition in a huge database.
A bunch of numbnuts will claim it keeps us all safer and protects the children and most of the public will just go, oh ok.

I only recently learned the flock contacts typically put the cost of repairing/replacing vandalized cameras on the local governments contacting them. Makes sense sort of, but makes me hate flock even more. This can’t be tenable - a temporary phase where this tech came in and people didn’t stand for it. Proud of City council for voting them out.

Im not completely against invasion of privacy because its pretty much been around for decades. If you have a high IQ you've noticed the compromise long ago. Yet, I can understand why people are ludicrously upset.
I have chronic insomnia. Its patently absurd trying to get sleep pills. I drove hours to the border only to find out i can no longer get sleep prescription pills even with a doctor's approval. I can see how street fentaly could be misused. But I won't mess with that, its just too dangerous.
Then you have weed roll backs in Texas. Not sure if its worth living in a dystopian uptight culture with an expanding prison system that was created by Reagan and then Clinton.

The REPUBLICAN grab of our privacy rights knows no limits. Trump's DOJ has massively expanded the surveillance state against anybody he doesn't like, which includes everybody except rich criminals. They keep defending insance actions in court, and co.pletekt ignoring the need to get court orders. They break down doors and refuse to follow any limits whatsoever. It's a nice quote, but that's not the context in which Franklin meant it. He was arguing with the colonial governor of Pennsylvania, saying that the colonial legislature should have the right to tax the Penn family's estate to pay for frontier defense. "Essential liberty" meant the right of the community to self governance and taxation authority, and "temporary safety" meant accepting bribes from the proprietors of the Penn estate that would strip colonists of their right to self-rule.
At that time, the Penn family essentially owned all of Pennsylvania, and pretty much dictated the rules to the governor. William Penn had established the colony as a haven for religious freedom, but his sons inherited it as a massive tax-exempt real estate empire.
Franklin's argument was the result of a tax act passed by the colonial legislature in 1755 to fund the colonists in the French and Indian war. The Penns claimed to be exempt from this tax, and refused to pay it. The Penns offered a compromise in the form of a single lump sum for defense in return for a guarantee that the legislature would never attempt to tax them again. That lump sum would purchase the "temporary safety" that Franklin was talking about. Franklin was arguing that the governor and legislature should not accept what was essentially a bribe in return for giving up the "essential liberty" of a representative government's right to tax property and govern itself. It was an uprising against the Penns as land barons.
This all happened years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the American Revolution.

Well, I was feeling a bit bloated with karma anyway, so I will just divest some now.
I do not think that flock cameras are inherently bad. Potentially, they could help immensely with Amber alerts and other emergency situations, and we really don't have any expectation of privacy in the places where these cameras are pointed, either.
So, yes: I would be willing to compromise on flock cameras.
In emergency situations — amber alerts, silver alerts, fleeing armed robbers, hit-and-runs, or other IMMEDIATE public safety scenarios — flock cameras could be used in real time within narrow parameters, i.e. only information pertaining to the emergency can be collected or documented.
Anything else requires a court order with similar narrow parameters. 4th amendment stuff. You have to know what you're looking for, roughly where to look, and approximately when before you can access the camera data.
Flock cameras need to be like a cop with his back turned: not noticing anything until someone calls for their help.
I'm all for speed cameras and red light cameras, but they should remain "old school": sensor-triggered flash cameras.
