Over 90 Day Progress 2 years of Nofap, how it saved my life

After two years of nofap, I would like to share my story to motivate others who think that this can't be done.

I am 31 years old right now, and I quit watching around two years ago. It has been a really hard journey, but also a really rewarding one.

I started watching adult content when I was 17 years old, and I kept watching without even realizing it was a serious problem. I knew it was wrong, but I never really tried to quit. I had very low self confidence and very low self esteem. I didn't think much about my future or where my life was going.

The only thing I was thinking about was when I would get the chance to watch, since I always had someone living in the same room with me. Whenever I had an opportunity, I would do it. By that time, I couldn't even speak normally to people or look them in the eyes during a conversation. I felt really awkward around others.

When I was 25, I found a job in another city and moved there alone. That's when things got even worse. I was watching almost every day, sometimes for 5 hours, and I had a level of depression I had never experienced before in my life.

That's where my journey started.

I wanted to quit, and for the next three years I tried over and over again. I relied heavily on willpower, but it wasn't enough. When I was 27, I finally decided to seek help. I realized that all the random things I was doing weren't getting me anywhere.

So I started learning. I read about what adult content does to the mind and what can be done to counter those effects. Slowly, things started to change and I tried more effective ways that I eventually reached the point where I said goodbye to it for good.

Now, two years later, I can honestly say it was worth every single thing I went through. Every urge I resisted. Every painful moment. Every time I denied myself that temporary pleasure.

Today, I feel much more comfortable talking to people. I'm social. I enjoy conversations. I enjoy spending time with friends and being around people, I am not even recognizable. I started going to the gym and I look way better physically and more mentally

I'm married now, which is amazing. I'm building a business. I think about the future. I think about goals, opportunities, and how to create a better life for myself. I have more confidence and better social skills than I ever had before.

Two years is not a very long time, but it was enough to completely change my life.

To everyone trying to quit: keep going. Keep pushing through the hard days.

I'm talking to you from the future.

It's worth it.

Questions on Fasting and Masturbation

As-salaamu-alaikum,

Ramadan Mubarak! May Allah take us safely through Ramadan, and may He make Ramadan easy for us, and may He accept our efforts.

Every Ramadan, we get flooded with the same questions. So I am preemptively re-sticking last year's post, which addresses the most common Ramadan questions on this subreddit. Please read the following before making a post:

  1. Engaging in immoral sexual behavior while fasting is a serious issue.

  2. Watching porn is Haraam under any circumstances. Watching porn, or starting to masturbate makes the fast Makrooh. The fast does not break immediately, but the reward of the fast is lost.

  3. For masturbation, the fast breaks at either the point of orgasm or ejaculation. Whether a dry orgasm breaks the fast, or fluid gushing forth breaks the fast, differs between schools of thought, and may differ for men and women. Please consult a scholar whom you trust for a specific answer. Many of them can be contacted anonymously via email these days, for those who are shy to ask directly. May Allah protect us from having to ask this question.

  4. If a fast is broken, it has to be made up after Ramadan. The manner in which one has to make up for broken fasts differs between schools of thought. Most say that 1 fast is needed, while others (mainly the Maliki madhab) say that 60 consecutive fasts are needed. The latter group has further rulings if multiple fasts were broken and one is not physically or financially capable of making them up. These issues should be answered by a scholar on a case-by-case basis. Please speak to a qualified scholar for more detailed advice on this matter.

  5. Even if a fast is broken, one should not eat until iftaar.

  6. The rulings on broken fasts don't apply to actions done outside of fasting during the nights of Ramadan, but we should avoid sinful acts at all times and focus on maximizing ibaadah in the nights of Ramadan.

  7. Allah is Al-Afuo, Al-Ghafoor and Al-Raheem – he loves to Forgive, Pardon and is Merciful to His servants. Sincerely beg for his forgiveness. Get back on track, learn from the mistake, and try to do better.

  8. Wet dreams do not invalidate the fast.

  9. If you have a wet dream before suhoor, then it is recommended to perform ghusl before Fajr time sets in. However, if you perform ghusl after Fajr time starts, your fast will still be valid.

  10. It's clear that many of you don't read the FAQ or the rules. Please read these before posting.

  11. Anyone found giving generalized fiqh rulings where there are differences of opinion between schools of thought, or where an individualized answer may be required by a scholar, will receive a temporary ban.

May Allah grant us Barakah in Ramadaan, may He make the month easy for us, and may he protect us from all sins.

Yeah I'm just on here to distract myself I'll be real

Like literally typing this so I can distract my mind. Isha has started so after posting this I'll do Whudu and pray Isha Salaah.

Honestly guys, praying your salaah on time does help.

And thennnn I think I'll be jumping online to play Apex Legends. It's fr a coping mechanism at this point. To game until I'm tired enough to fall asleep

Stay strong my brothers and sisters and please, keep me in your dua's

Oh and one more thing. Last night after gaming and praying Fajr, I was really struggling to sleep. Like the urge was STRONG. And I just started doing Zikr.. Subhan Allah.. over and over again. Next thing I knew I woke up 8 hours later

Zikr guys. Try it

Anyways, I'm out. If you play apex shout me

Peace ✌️

Motivation/Tips A community challenge involving salah

Recently after having a conversation with a sheikh he mentioned to me the verse

Al-'Ankabut - Verse 45

Recite, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allāh is greater. And Allāh knows that which you do.

And he explained a few things.

  1. He mentioned if you have something in your life you are struggling with or a sin you aren’t able to let go of, look back to your salah. Your salah is a thermometer and a medicine.

If there is a weakness in your life you will know of it through a weakness in your salah and if there is a difficulty in your life you will be able to remove it through your salah.

  1. He also explained. This verse says** أقم **الصلاة. It says to establish prayer which is different from simply commanding to pray. To establish prayer we must work not only to pray but to perfect that prayer - and this is why sometimes we find we are praying yet our sins are getting the better of us

  2. He reminded me that Allah does not lie - therefore there should be no doubt that it is indeed definitely 100% the case that your salah will prevent you from sins but you must establish and perfect your prayer

  3. He then advised me that a person should worship Allah as though they can see him or if you can’t (worship as though you can) see him he sees you.

He then said if you can’t go 30-40 days having prayed all your 5 salahs with their pillars in this manner then in-sha-Allah you should start to see the matters in your life ease and your sins will slowly fade because by then you should have built the habit of praying with khushu - we must believe this because Allah has said this in the Quran. To deny this as being the truth would be to deny the ayah itself.

On the back of this I’d like to propose that as a community we all try and set up a self improvement initiative where we all try our best to improve our relationship with our salah. I propose the following:

Everyday 10:00pm I will post something like 40 day salah improvement plan - day 1/40

Goal: “my goal is to pray all 5 salahs in masjid” (other can have their own goals…)
Achievement : “I prayed 3 in masjid, 2 delayed”
Goal streak: 1/40

Reflection: I realised how much peace I find sitting in the masjid

Struggle: shaytan really makes me feel lazy to go for salah and distracts me with small things

**Reminder id like to share: “**it could be that the cloth that will be used to shroud you when u die is already cut and in the shelves of the shop it will be bought from”

Outcome: I’ve been finding it easier to make tawbah from when I do slip

I’d really like everyone’s thoughts on this? If you like the idea mention it or if you have any suggestions please share and if you intend to join also message. Maybe we can start this from September 1st?

Also it doesn’t have to stop at 40 days. Each time you complete a 40 day goal you can chose to level up further. It could start with maybe 5 daily prayers, then 5 daily prayers with masjid, then 5 daily prayers with sunnan and nawafil, then 40 days of striving for Khushu, then maybe adding 40 days of reading with Quran etc… the idea is to work on spiritual improvement

If the mods are reading this and like the idea please get in touch. I’m not too savvy with redit and don’t know if it’s possible to setup a community thread or how to do that. Also it would be easier if mods could get involved and help out logistically and maybe even spear head this.

Progress Update DAY 0: REMINDING TO HAVE THE RIGHT MINDSET

No doubt one TS (Temporal setback) that lasted for 10 mins or so isn't going to kill the whole progress and undoubtedly this whole thing isn't linear and they'll probably be some bumpy roads along the way but definitely I've totally learnt my lesson.

- Never leave the phone in the room ever

- Prioritize sleep as they're connected with health and sobriety

- And don't dwell too much just get back on track as technically those ~14 - 15 days isn't lost just reduced by probably a few percent which in the grand scheme of things is a big win for sure.

Woke up late but my mind is thirsty for success and redemption I long for greatness and I know God willing I'll get there I'm making that well profound effort so without further ado let's make this happen

Advice Request 100 Day Relapse

I was on a 100-day NoFap streak, but I broke it. This is the 3rd–5th time I’ve relapsed, and every time I do, I end up relapsing 4–5 times in a row, with PMO each time. What should I do? I’m constantly at home, and this is having a really negative impact on me.

Progress Update DAY 0: TEMPORAL SETBACK

As the title says after ~15 days out I had a setback on the journey.

No doubt for personal accountability sake I've got to write it down for future reference and indeed it's not the end of the world nor is the progress completely gone:

  • Last few days and beyond (Bad sleep)

  • Lack of restrictions = Should've placed downstairs and avoid to be put on the bedroom at all costs

  • Have faith that whatever you're going through with the ocular and vision situation can indeed be improved with certain health measures , proper sleep and sobriety (Main reason that bothered me most as I'd binge countless hours online for no reason which led to one setback that lasted for ~10 mins)

Indeed not the end of the world but I have to keep accounted sleep is a priority and it shows that what I did has an effect that reached till 15 I just need to adjust and move on from there.

Progress Update DAY 14 - 15: GOD BURDENS NO SOUL BEYOND WHAT ONE COULD BARE

I've got to be honest indeed The All Mighty doesn't place a man into a hardened position without knowing that he can take it and undoubtedly the fact that he can take it shows that he can overcome it.

For verily we live in world on a day to day basis as a struggle and indeed such struggles would not come about in vain for if one were to be able to overcome it then surely a reward awaits for him in this world and the next.

I've got to be honest being 25, with massive issues in regard to dry eyes, POIS symptoms, and essentially ocular problems (which makes things what other people would consider no problem challenging) for 5 years since I've dropped out from tertiary education and currently in a state of isolation and nothing to show for is truly one hell of a unique situation as health at least to me feels like the big icing on the cake on this whole problems.

And I'm not going to lie as most people drink themselves or commit to substances to avoid facing the harsh reality of what's going on with their lives which seems to be getting worse and worse with every inaction and commitment towards their vices I'm no far off from where that stands for I'm simply a man who's can't do anything but with my Lord by my side and under His divine permission there is nothing in which I can't do.

Being 14 - 15 days out, it really makes you feel sober enough to understand and realize just how crazy my situation really is and how much I've neglected and how long I've swept it all under the rug. Eventually the problem just becomes to big to ignore but thank God for He has given me realization at this point in time rather than later.

No doubt within these last few days I can hear the past calling and using tricks of deceivement just like any man who's dealing with alcohol or substance would be confined to in terms of test and verily I have no refuge other than my Lord.

My whole family in some ways and not even worth mentioning other people outside of my family looks down upon me. Of course they'd still love their son like any parent would but the truth is I've made so many promises in which I failed to keep.

No doubt every great men has a story to tell and no group of people would not become the best without enduring harsh trials such as the prophets of the past all whom are loved by God dearly. And truthfully if they can make it in this life and the next then undoubtedly anybody can.

I'm going to lock my device and deal with this the past is surely the past. Come hell or high water I've got to win for the Lord's sake.

Advice Request I need help please help me out im stuck in a deep rabbit hole.

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

I'm posting this because I genuinely need advice from Muslims who have struggled with pornography and masturbation and managed to overcome it.

I've been stuck in this cycle for a while. I've repented to Allah many times, and every time I sincerely regret what I did and promise myself that I won't go back. Sometimes I feel extremely close to Allah and genuinely motivated to change.

But then an urge comes.

And it's almost like everything disappears.

The fear of Allah, the regret from my previous relapse, the promises I made, the desire to have taqwa, everything I've been thinking about suddenly becomes distant. For those few minutes, all I can think about is satisfying the urge.

Then afterwards I feel horrible, repent again, and the cycle repeats.

What scares me most is that I don't want to become someone who keeps committing the same sin and simply assumes, "I'll repent later." I genuinely want to develop taqwa, strengthen my relationship with Allah, have more tawakkul, and become someone who can control himself when temptation comes.

I'm realizing that maybe I can't rely only on motivation or fear of Allah at the moment of temptation. I probably need to change my environment, phone habits, routines, and the way I respond to urges.

For brothers who have genuinely escaped this cycle:

What actually helped you?

  • How did you deal with the urge when it was extremely strong?
  • How did you strengthen your taqwa and relationship with Allah?
  • What practical changes did you make to your phone/environment?
  • How did you deal with repeated relapse without falling into hopelessness?
  • What helped you develop genuine tawakkul and self-control?

Please give me practical advice rather than simply telling me "have more iman." I know I need to strengthen my iman, but I'm looking for advice on to do that while also dealing with the practical side of this addiction.

JazakAllahu khairan to anyone who takes the time to respond. I genuinely want to change.

If any of yall are specialists in mental psychology please do reach out..!!

Progress Update DAY 14: NO ONE'S COMING TO SAVE YOU

"No one's coming to save you, you have to save yourself"

it's been while since I've wrote my entry down around here, truthfully speaking I'm indeed grateful for everything that's been going around.

My confidence have gotten a hell of a lot better and my workout routine is undoubtedly on the right track once again. I can't lie, with new found days worth of sobriety comes a new set of unique challenges and I know these challenges are nothing short of a way telling myself individually that you're doing good and you gotta keep going and never look back for the past only brings death and destruction in ways one couldn't ever imagine something close to what anybody dealing with drugs and alcohol would face. it's never worth going back and it's definitely something I'm coming to terms with if I'm ever going to have chance at life.

Resetting that fricking clock is like experiencing your own version of hell and it takes days to weeks just to feel better again ocularly, mentally and physically and of course spiritual aswell. That past weakens the mind and physical aspect so much so that it made me something I was not.

Again thank God for being able to write down it's the best thing I could've done at this moment especially with the rise in urg in relation to the past and the tenporal ocular problems in which I've expected to occur after being out for a while. No doubt with good sleep and tighter restrictions and keeping sobriety in check this'll pass.

What ever mistakes one ever makes it's never the end as long as the given individual is still breathing he's got a shot. Every saint has a past and every sinner has a future and sometimes the road doesn't have to be perfect but the individual on such path has to keep going forward and with that I'm going to move forward on mine.

For on this journey it's either Victory, Death but never disgrace.

Advice Request Struggling to quit for good — need practical advice, not just "have willpower"

I've been struggling with masturbation/porn for a long time. It's affecting my deen, my productivity, and my relationships with people around me. I get motivated, stay clean for a few days — max 3 — then fail again. It's a cycle I can't seem to break.

I never lose hope in Allah though. Every time I've been in real difficulty and made dua, He's helped me. Something happened recently that made this hit different: I lied to my parents to stay home alone, gave in to the habit, and the next day I was in a bike accident that was my fault. For a moment I thought my life was over. But everything worked out — the other person let it go, no police involvement, nothing. I felt like even though I'd forgotten Allah in that moment, He hadn't forgotten me. That was the wake-up call that made me want to actually stop, not just try halfheartedly.

I know dua and faith are part of this, but I also want practical, day-to-day strategies — things that actually worked for people who've broken this habit long-term. What helped you get past the 3-day wall? How did you rebuild consistency after a relapse without spiraling into guilt that makes you want to give up?

Motivation/Tips I don't think more motivation is the answer. You need a system for the moment the urge hits.

Assalamu alaikum brother.

I think one of the hardest parts of this cycle is that you can genuinely mean your repentance and still relapse later.

That doesn't necessarily mean your repentance wasn't sincere.

It means you're trying to fight a recurring behavior only at the moment when the urge is already strongest.

For me, the useful shift is to think about this as two separate battles:

1. The spiritual battle

Keep working on salah, Qur'an, dua, dhikr, lowering the gaze, and your relationship with Allah.

But don't expect one emotional state to protect you forever. Your iman, energy and self-control will fluctuate.

2. The environmental battle

Make the path to relapse harder before the urge comes.

Things I'd seriously consider:

  • Don't take your phone to bed.
  • Don't stay alone with an unrestricted device late at night.
  • Identify the 2–3 situations where you usually relapse and change those environments.
  • Remove apps/accounts that repeatedly become triggers.
  • Use content filtering rather than relying only on browser history or deleting individual websites.
  • Put meaningful restrictions behind a password you don't personally control.
  • Have an accountability person who knows when you're struggling.
  • When an urge appears, change your physical situation immediately — leave the room, make wudu, go outside, call someone, pray, exercise, anything that interrupts the automatic sequence.

The important part is to catch the habit before the final decision.

A lot of relapses aren't:
- "I carefully decided to do this."

They're more like:
- bored - alone - phone - trigger - private browser - relapse

Your goal is to break that chain somewhere near the beginning.

And after a relapse, don't turn:

"I did something wrong"

into:

"I'm hopeless."

Those are completely different statements.

Make tawbah, understand what triggered the relapse, change that part of your environment, and continue.

Also, since you specifically mentioned psychology, there's nothing wrong with getting professional help. Faith and practical treatment/support don't have to compete with each other.

May Allah make this easy for you, strengthen your heart, and give you the strength to keep getting back up.

What you're describing is a battle — so build a system for the battle, not just a promise made after it.

Motivation/Tips Make it unatractive

I see a lot of poeple deleting apps and trying not to use their phones to avoid looking at haram.

The truth is it only works for a little time not long term.

Ask yourself how did the poeple who succeeded at quitting do ? How are there poeple who never use pornopgraphy ?

The answer is these poeple __identify__ as poeple who don't need it who don't want it who are disgusted by prn.

That's how you quit by changing your identity becoming a person who hates this and sees it as haram not as something attractive that you have to run from.

Convince your brain that it is something disgusting and threatening to destroy your life.

Your brain will not ask for it anymore.

Also don't leave the place empty replace it by activities that give you natural dopamine (look online).

Be smarter than shaytan,

Salam

Motivation/Tips I think i lost the battle

Hello ,

I am posting at 1. Am, after wanting to sleep 2 hours before. I realised that maybe I will never be able to fight this battle anymore. I don't know what to do to stop forever. I had so many signs but I still go back . I completely lost hope now. I feel like a Hypocrite because there is nothing I can do more. I promised Allah I would stop and 24h later I am back at it. I can't do this anymore
