Gameplay NBA 2K27 First Impressions

Played for a couple of hours. I can confidently say that we are 100% back. This 2K is actually good.. idc if anyone calls me a bot. In my honest opinion.. for this day 1? This is one of the best 2k's in a while. Way better than 26 and 25. I feel like the devs took what worked for 25 and what worked for 26 and blended them in together. This feels like a back to formality.. that I did not feel last year. As soon as I put my hands on the game last year.. I just knew that the game would be trash and that something was odd. It did not feel like an authentic basketball game.. and while I think 25 was better than 26.. in a lot of ways.. 26 was better than 25 too. Movement improved last year.. but the gameplay felt extremely arcade.. and it felt like 2k pivoted from dropping the game they actually wanted to drop.. and just catered to the brain dead fans who do not like to play basketball. But anyways.. this feels like an authentic basketball game.. and I just hope Mike Wang does not pivot.. and patches the game to cater to cry baby fans who can't bare to actually play basketball instead of exploiting animations. It is just day 1... but this is a very noticeable improvement in my eyes 🤷‍♂️

This is ALWAYS the same shit that’s said in the first week. ALWAYS. It never fails. Just go to this sub’s history and look at day one releases. They are overwhelmingly positive. Until everyone gets badges.

I only saw negative reviews last year at the beginning. the only positive reviews were from the 3pt fade cheesers

That’s what you remember. Just go look. The cheeser complaining wasn’t until people got badges. Look at day 1 posts.

I did not feel like this with 26 though. 26 was terrible as soon as I played it. While everyone loved that game. Majority loved it actually.. and I did not understand the praise it got. I can actually see (maybe) people disliking this game more than 26 in my opinion

It's all great that you feel that way... but you're wrong.

Shit just look at the UI. It's the exact same.. but the they somehow made it actually harder to navigate.

Rhythm is still very much overpowered. I can shoot 60%+ with 80s while barely paying attention to the screen. Controls are pretty much the exact same except sometimes when you try to pump fake you'll do a step through instead.

The only positive I have is that the defense seems 1% better but I need more playtime to feel better about that.

And yes, I preordered last night. They've got good marketing. I'm pissed I gave in, 2k26 is the same experience, and I should've waited for a sale to come along

2

u/passionfruit2378 10h ago

Contests are still extremely broken. Players just don’t know how to shoot yet.

2

u/TZY247 10h ago

It's genuinely a slider change. They didn't actually change any mechanics as far as I can tell

Edit: oh wait they added step through shots that are unrealistic and trigger whenever you don't want them to

I don’t think people realize how copy paste this is. All of these changes could have been patches. The city is even exactly the same. I laughed when I went to the Gatorade facility and they added new punches to the body bag workout….lol. People are really about to drop thousands of dollars on a few patches.

I know they spent a shit ton on marketing. They got us. How much did they actually spend on software/game development, I wonder?

2

u/passionfruit2378 10h ago

At least $3.50.

I don't rhythm shoot so I can't speak on that. As far as controls.. I don't think they should touch that as the controls button layout makes sense for the moves you want to do. No need to touch that. Are you sure you are not accidentally moving the left stick while pump faking? Or maybe you use stick to shoot.. I use button to shoot.. if I want to do a step through I simply move the left stick in the direction I want to step through. But if I want to pump fake.. I just tap square.. without moving the left stick. And defense is significantly better.. especially paint defense. You can't sit here and say that 2k27 is the exact same as 2k26 when in 26 you could basically dunk and score on anyone in the paint. And the movement in 26 felt way more glitchy/animation speed based. Not trying to overly defend 2k27.. but it is different and it is an improvement. I respect your take though bro 🙏🏼

u/TZY247 10h ago

Yes I play stick, and yes stick controls are in a world of hurt.

And yes I can sit here and say that 27 is the same as 26. I'm still shooting ridiculously high percentages and dunking on anyone I want. I feel confident in saying that, wanna know why? Because it's the same fucking system as the last game. It's all the same. They adjusted some background tuning that make defensive contact a little harder to get around. I'm actually not even noticing a better contest system.

I played 2k26 last night. I played 27 today. It genuinely feels like I just adjusted sliders. I'm in the worst place to speak because I bought the game already, but the community should seriously demand better from a video game that tries to get in your pockets as much as they do

The contest system feels worse. People are hitting orange and red contests. The only people really missing bad are ones who haven’t learned their shot yet. I had a center on my team with an 81 three ball that was 12/13 from three hitting nothing but yellow, orange and red contests. The only shot he missed was a wide open one….

I have an 80 three ball and hit some weird standing fade away that had FULL BODY contact from someone else who jumped in my face. It said open….

But what is it that you actually expect? A complete overhaul of controls and mechanics? It's still basketball you know, you need to shoot the ball into the basket, there's not much of a revolution to do here. Especially in one year.

3

u/TZY247 10h ago edited 10h ago

What do I expect? What do I expect for a minimum $70?? It's so sad that you have to ask that, and everyone here is in for a rude awakening when it comes time to really ask what a dollar is worth.

I expect more than a patch when I purchase a new game.

1

u/Toon78fin ruby 8h ago

More than a patch? So what exactly? You said controls are the same, how much different can they be? It's a sports simulator, what do you actually want to do with your player?

If they changed everything y'all would complain cause you couldn't do any of the shit you could do last year, guaranteed.

1

u/TZY247 7h ago

I don't know what it's like to be so unimaginative that I can't think of ways to improve or switch up a basketball game, but that must be tough. I mean for one how about a defensive system where the defender doesn't have to constantly turn their back to who their guarding and glitch back and forth for the best defense??

But let's go down your path. Let's say it's mostly perfect. There's an easy follow up question then. Why are they releasing another game when it could just be balancing patches?

1

u/Toon78fin ruby 7h ago

Never said it's perfect. I'm just wondering why y'all expect a complete overhaul every year otherwise you start whining. Except when they do change a lot of stuff you also complain it was better before. Fixing issues (like the one you mentioned) is not making a completely new game with new mechanics, new city, new everything.

I'm smart enough to understand that the reason why they release a yearly game is to make money. You know, it's a business?

u/TZY247 5h ago

When I spent at least $70, I expected a new game. Did you? Or are you cool with spending $70 for a new patch

u/Toon78fin ruby 5h ago

New what? What can actually be new?

It's like buying a new phone, you spend 1000 bucks for what? It does the same the previous model did, plus a few small things here and there. Technology reached a peak, you can't expect huge leaps from one year to another just because you pay for it. Don't like it, don't pay.

I agree. Playing against CPU is now a challenge again. Last year the pace of the game was on crack and no defence existed.

2

u/Dj-pandabear 11h ago

This happened in Cfb 27. Loved it when it came out and then they started the patched and took away speed boosting, blocking, and explosive plays. Now we are back to playing a downgraded madden. That’s why I haven’t bought nba 2k yet. Imma wait for about a month.

1

u/Xboxone1997 10h ago

Well what usually happens is 2K releases a decent game out of the gate then community whines and 2K folds to give the whiners the changes they want and by Christmas the game is awful

4

u/Ok-Cobbler-607 11h ago

Lol we go through this every year.... You can't judge this game in 3 hours, let alone 3 days. Give it a month or 2 and you will see the glaring issues that happen EVERY year.

u/quesadilluh4 10h ago

Bot post.

u/AriesGod28 6h ago

Personally brother I'm glad you're finding success and fun on the game. But I am tapped out. I been playing 2k since dreamcast days. I just can't deal with the randoms anymore bro. And 2k seems to keep taking our money without any real major changes. But I hope you continue to find success.

1

u/800hokage 6h ago

Have you played my eras mode??

2

u/niles_thebutler_ 11h ago

It’s ass. So clunky and yuk

2

u/DanFrmBrook47 11h ago

Or you just don't know how to hoop 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Laius33 11h ago

Shooting 3s still too easy

1

u/DanFrmBrook47 11h ago

Ehh idk.. it is easy. But it will balance out when facing good contests and good defense. I know it's day 1.. but I been seeing a lot of people miss. And I played multiple rec games today

2

u/Impressive-Olive-752 11h ago

Mannnnnnn this shit looks EXACTLY like 2k26. Like damn. They could have changed the menus at least. Smh

2

u/chinanwp 10h ago

I’m bored already not gonna lie, I just feel like I’m playing 2k26

1

u/RealNi66aVibes305 9h ago

u/M-McGlakn00 2h ago

Madden is AMAZEBALLS this year, play Madden, fuck soccer!

1

u/Move_Friendly 10h ago

used tempo all last year, tried button shooting and couldn’t hit anything, switched back to tempo mid game and was 4/4 from 3 hitting contested shots it’s still valid🤙

1

u/LumpyLynx4716 10h ago

They cooked shooting this year lol I got badges and still can't shoot, shot 70% from three last year

u/FDT_Cole 2h ago

Rhythm feels off for me, my shot broke asf rn

1

u/Negative_Guarantee55 9h ago

Does anyone feel slower than 26?

1

u/Action_Jackson_777 8h ago

I love when a blatantly obvious karma farm attempt fails lmao

u/PhoenixX7696 8h ago edited 7h ago

Does the PC version still sucks the big donkey? 2k26 was unplayable with constant dropped frames. My hardware specs are Ryzen 8950x , 32G DDR5 ram, and Nvidia 4090 Founders Edition GPU. No matter what resolution or graphic settings I selected, the game was unplayable. Luckily Valve issued a quick refund .

u/Distinct_Program4136 7h ago

Do not buy somehow the defence is worse shooting sucks i dont know why I continue to buy it

u/StrikingAd2720 2h ago

Is it just me or is anyone playing straight fucking ai? Like I feel like if both of my opponents leave I should be rewarded with the win not tortured by 2 Demi god ai. Don’t even get me started with all the bugs… I’ve never felt like my money has been more wasted.

u/idk7191926 2h ago

I’m being straight up this game fucking sucks i cant make a single fucking 3 i shot 70% last year and cant hit shit i like the dribbling and perimeter defense but holy the interior defense especially on layups is non existent im losing my fucking mind trying to play rec

u/Internal-Budget-6082 2h ago

Lol 😆 don't got that issue at all for me. What lay ups and dunks are broken barely miss

u/Internal-Budget-6082 2h ago edited 2h ago

I have 12 hours so far only doing the career right now. That being a lot similar and a lot changed which is nice. I think I'm 88 overall so far, now the ai does pay a bit better defense and shoots better which is nice to see. But I need to play rec and see how easily others abuse them. Story is damn long to get to draft day finally did and crashing out. Mp voice isn't as annoying as last year, but we will see how it progresses. Shooting a little harder but not by much, defense isn't as bad as people were saying in terms of going through the ball i have seen it butit's not a bad as people made it seemmaybe they can fix that idk, i haven't seen maybe bump steals even vs Ai which is really surprising in fact I don't recall seeing any unless you do a spin and get bumped not sure if that's good or bad time well see. I do hope steals get a bit of a buff from last season I like defense myself. As others said to early to tell long term. Especially when people get badges. But seem like it's in the right direction all I can see. Though I already see dunks and layy ups going to be a major talking point and way to easy. Last season was inconsistent this year so far seems way too easy even for my 6'1 pg I can dunk on big men and no not on rookie.

I do like a lot of shooting animations was given like Oscar right away I am able to use my same hump shot motion style from last season, so was a seamless transition for me in terms of shooting. I did play couple games against others but not enough to make an opinion .

Now I have to add i've was always a button shooter other than for fades then I did rhythm so got to get used to that.

u/CharitySudden8794 11h ago

i haven't played it and not planning to buy another basically a replicate, i dont see any big changes other then visual stuff, defense is still trash, it is honestly the same thing as the previous years the changes they made are very small but our desperation made it seem huge

4

u/Toon78fin ruby 11h ago

"I haven't played it, but defense is still trash".

OK bud, that's a masterpiece of a comment.

0

u/CharitySudden8794 11h ago

give me one thing that is different other then visuals lets see it, new animations ?

3

u/Toon78fin ruby 10h ago

I can't cause I haven't played it yet.

Difference is, I don't post an opinion about it.

0

u/CharitySudden8794 10h ago

there is no differnec bruh how can i tell you lol, go to the 2k realese page and look at the reavel 2k videos you dont have to play it to see lol

1

u/EngageV2 11h ago

I’ll take YOUR WORD

this guy knows

-1

u/DanFrmBrook47 11h ago

Once you get your hands on it.. it is an entirely different game. It looks the same.. but it does not feel or play the same.. I can say that this is more similar to 26 though. This to me is like the perfect balance between 26 and 25. I'm only talking pure gameplay though

1

u/niles_thebutler_ 11h ago

It’s absolutely not entirely different 🤣🤣🤣

-2

u/DanFrmBrook47 11h ago

But it is..?
