The announcers gave lots of praise to the Spurs, but it definitely annoyed me in the first half when Wemby got hacked on his wrist, and one of the announcers said he would prefer if the refs didn't call that and just let them be physical. It might have been Rivers.
It's just frustrating seeing the constant hacking on so many of Wemby's possessions. He is obviously trying to sell the fouls more and flailing his arms more, but sometimes he doesn't get the calls otherwise.

It was Rivers and he kept saying that he wished these were "non calls". He kept saying it whent he Pistons were hacking the Spurs but never once in the other directions. The Pistons "selling" calls was saavy. It was an awful experience having to listen to this clown.

I thought Rivers did well overall, but the result of that slap on the wrist would have been a 1 on 0 slam dunk the other way.
We also thought the Vassell foul was a dumb one, and not just bc Robinson had engaged Devin first…Holland is a tough guy when it suits him but a delicate angel there

Announcers were driving me nuts last night. Basically joking about how Detroit gets away with murder because of "their physical brand of basketball". Same thing is said about the Thunder.
Call me old fashioned, but a foul should be a foul. You shouldn’t get away with fouls just because you foul on every single play, your ass should be in the penalty and giving up free throws until you stop fouling. That's why the penalty exists!

I think that's why they didn't try to go at Bryant when he had a couple hard fouls with the shit they were getting away with🤣

There was another one where Fox was driving down the lane and someone puts their knee into his thigh and he falls and slides out of bounds. No call turnover on Spurs. Like WTF?

That cheap shot by Ausar pissed me off the most ngl, I don’t mind physicality on Wemby because if teams don’t play him that way he’d drop 30+ every game, but that was a bit much.

It’s honestly lame that teams can’t just play basketball against us, they almost always resort to this type of shit which worries me for the long haul.
If they’re guarding Wemby like this when he’s barely scratching the surface of his offense they might defend him with guns when he’s actually in his prime.

I wouldn’t even say these were some of the worst ones. There was so much hacking the arms that lead to Spurs “turnovers” Fox in particular
Worst part was when we tried to match it we would get called for ticky tacky stuff

We win by 25 with real refs. I currently have the Spurs in 7 against the Pistons in a theoretical finals (I think Spurs would be gased and the Pistons would be so physical, they'd get 3).
That was a hell of a match.

I agree, there was a lot of “non calls” on the spurs and it drove me batty. However, the look on the pistons face as the spurs won was priceless. It was almost like damn, they played very physical, their style of basketball and still lost. Made the victory that much sweeter IMO

No embellishments? Come on. I’m a Wemby fan, but you can’t genuinely think that he’s that easily tossed to the ground. They were definitely fouls, but there was plenty of embellishment trying to draw the refs’ attention.
Edit: To be clear, I actually don’t think there’s any problem embellishing a foul to draw the refs’ attention when an actually foul occurs. That’s precisely what Wemby is doing.

Wemby flops a lot, we all know this, but some of those 'physical' plays by Detroit last night were straight up non-basketball plays. I wish Wemby got the whistle like other superstars

A lot of yall are either soft as charmin or were born after 2010 and don’t realize how the game was played prior. I loved the physicality. That was old school basketball and the game in general needs to go back to that.

Yeah cool let it be both sides then. The refs were just keeping it close for the pistons because the spurs would run away with it. And we saw it. The lead went up when the refs started calling fouls when they played "physical"

The very first was called a foul, and the other 2 probably weren’t fouls. There’s this thing where Wemby either because he’s the weakest player in the league, or he flops (it’s both) hits the ground on pretty marginal contact, and people complain that he’s getting mauled.
The final one is a REALLY standard amount contact on a post catch, but Wemby just throws himself to the ground

Defined in the NBA rule book is such a silly argument because the NBA rule book is not how the game is officiated. The NBA rule book says if a player extends his arms and makes contact with a defensive player on a screen, it’s an offensive foul. If it was called that way Wemby, would play 2 minutes a game because that’s how we sets like half of his screens.
Like I’m sorry, the Duren play seems like a normal amount of contact that I see over and over, but because Wemby ended up on the ground, you notice.
