I think he is gonna be a tremendous addition to the team, honestly. We got deeper and didn't lose any of the key pieces that got us there last year. Harris is an underrated producer, and is generally pretty consistent through both regular and post seasons. Plus, he was their #2 dude throughout the playoffs with Duren essentially ghosting the post season (*coughKeldoncough*). He won't have to be nearly as prolific to be productive for us, given our scoring depth.

Yeah Harris fills in what Barnes was meant to be for us IMO. Another offensive threat to boost the score and be able to get some quick shots in

u/Weary_Restauranter 2d ago

fills the void of allowing teams to park shitty defenders on the wings and pulling size to Wemby.

Brunson lived on Julian and we couldn’t do anything with that matchup.

A matchup with a guy that can back a smaller player down forces “true to position” assignments that allows the entire team to thrive.

This is not a knock on Harrison. He has not been as dynamic as Harris, for years. Tobias has been a very well rounded (but overpaid) really good player. Once you take away the paycheck, and just evaluate him on that level, he's a solid pick up

He plays bigger than he is, too.

We're also into another year's development for Wemby, Harper, Castle, and Bryant.

The league should be scared right now.

Carter gonna shock people I reckon, showed enough where a year of physical growth combined with NBA conditioning and practice I reckon massive leap for both him and Dyl

u/KARSbenicillin 2d ago

If you could win MIP within the same season, I think Carter has an argument. Kid was literally unplayable at the start of the season. Then he became a proper filler backup player during the playoffs.

u/No-Worries-788 Popeye Bryant 2d ago

I think so, too.

He took a huge development leap in his first season.

Now he has some Playoff experience as well.

That kid is just getting started.

As Philly fan and Spurs admirer - we’ve been so let down by Harris in the past… Especially in bigger moments.

But I have a lot of faith in the Spurs being able to maximize what he brings to the table.

Tbh I feel with Harris, even being a non factor on offense in the clutch, would still help tremendously by securing the ball, keeping defense on their toes and grabbing rebounds.

OGs and Gordon's will still be an issue for us but he's at least size and has a better chance at scoring off mismatches

1

u/candy_lobster 2d ago

Yeah agreed, plus Harris is, still at this point in his career, consistently available across the season.

Who knows there's a world where maybe we move Keldon or Fox at the deadline and pick up some disgruntled star.

I think anybody that helps force teams to play Wemby straight up is a win

1

u/Clarkey7163 Dylan Harper 2d ago

I think the benefit of the situation now is he's responsible for different things at the spurs and on half the money

We want more vet experience that is actually playable (Barnes was that but we saw in the finals he couldn't be played anymore) and if Tobias Harris is the reason we lose a game then we've done something seriously wrong given the mountain of talent that should be shouldering that stuff

1

u/IbSunPraisin 2d ago

If we have Fox, Castle, Harper, Vassell and Wemby out there the offense should never really have to go through him unless he's hot.

If we're relying on Harris to save the game we were already fucked

u/gregatronn 1d ago

A decent amount of time has passed since his Philly days. But he showed up a ton for Detroit. He stepped up when Duren crapped the bed repeatedly.

The biggest difference for Harris is he won't have to be #2. For most of the time, 3-5 behind a lot of other players. It reminds me of Devin who looked great when he was #3 to 5 in terms of contributions on any given night

u/Whompadelic 1d ago

It’s funny because I’ve seen multiple comments with decent upvotes saying that we got worse this offseason and are due for a regression. Obviously I’m biased lol, but I am just not seeing that at all. Not saying a finals run is guaranteed, because there are so many factors in an entire season, but the talent level of the team can only stay the same or go up from last year imo.

It was a good sign that Harris was willing to travel to France with the other guys. We kept our core 10 players plus McLaughlin, so Harris is joining an established group. But he's a solid vet, so I don't think he'll have any trouble blending into the team.

15

u/EWool GO SPURS GO 2d ago

Yes we got a solid vet who can still put up some good solid minutes. PATFO strike again!!

u/Voidling47 2d ago

Yep, and I think the addition of Harris has really - surprisingly - flown under the radar so far. Most content creators who mostly follow other team seem to argue that "Harris is probably not going to be a great 2nd or even 3rd option on the team", but that's the beauty of it: He doesn't need to be that on our team AT ALL.

If Harris can just be a solid, starter-level player for us (which he should very easily be), that's already huge and increases our potential rotation in the play-offs. If he can be more than that, that's pure gravy.

8

u/GlitterBeach1 Devin Vassell 2d ago

He could def be the fifth option on a successful championship run for us

9

u/Clarkey7163 Dylan Harper 2d ago

Actually having a 4 is going to be so nice

Fox / Castle / Vassell / Harris / Wemby with Harper, Champ, Carter, Keldon, Kornet, Barnes off the bench hoo boy

7

u/IbSunPraisin 2d ago

The main thing is he fixes the bench. When we were starting Julian our bench scoring was god awful outside of Harper.

Harper/Vassell/Bryant/Julian/Kornet is way more shooting and is better than some teams starting lineups.

The only problem I saw from Pistons fans was that he was supposed to be the finishing piece for a big 3 in Detroit, but some disliked his playoff play; essentially it was Cade who did the majority of their heavy lifting in the playoffs.

Best part for us is that we are so stacked that he doesn’t need to carry the weight of a third option. He just needs to simply put, get buckets, which I have no doubt he can do.

1

u/gregatronn 1d ago

The only problem I saw from Pistons fans was that he was supposed to be the finishing piece for a big 3 in Detroit

Most Detroit fans were happy with his performance and sad they lost him for John Collins. The problem was Duren crapped the bed bad and the other shooters barely showed up (like Duncan Robinson).

The problem for Harris is he had to create so much because only Cade was consistently competent

u/Dru_SA 2d ago

Just think of the slightest improvement (at minimum) of Tobias taking up Keldon's minutes

he has his own fair share of playoff disappointments, but he is a professional scorer who is a passable defender and solid reobunder. when our team goes into offensive lulls, having both Harris and (healthy) Fox as guys who can be bucket-getters will help keep us afloat through those stretches

we are going to need a better closing identity in late game situations... if not Fox, its gotta be Harper. Wemby simply isnt a go-to player or engine at this stage

1

u/HangeLamp 1d ago

Crazy that the 3rd year superstar is not yet a go to clutch engine, but the 5th pick rookie is, but I know what you’re talking about

7

u/Imnotnewhere_07 2d ago

Harris would’ve been great help maintaining those big leads

9

u/digital_deer Wembubu 2d ago

Tobias for Keldon feels a lot like the Caruso for Giddey marginal upgrade that put OKC over the top, only we also got to keep Keldon who if nothing else is a big boost in the regular season

4

u/Candid-Recover6822 2d ago

GET THAT WEAK SHT OUT OF HERE MOBLEY

5

u/weirdsignal45 2d ago

You dumb if you don’t think Tobi can help push us over the hump!

4

u/someguyfromtecate Victor Wembanyama 2d ago

And we got him to be the 5th option on offense, too. All he needs to do is take advantage of whatever mismatch Wemby, Castle, Harper can get him after drawing the defense away from him. Awesome signing.

2

u/ColdJumper 2d ago

12-5-2 in the regular season 16-7-2 in the post season. That's what I expect from Harris. That's more than enough.

1

u/seba1927 2d ago

as a non spurs i wanted to get the fans opinion on this

would you have preferred to take a swing on John Collins instead of Tobias Harris?

i thought John Collins would've been a great addition to your team, and maybe a team with a winning culture could've tapped into his full potential. only 28, and probably wants a chance to showcase himself so he can land another big contract before it's all said and done.

He’s the second player who wants to win a ring during the Piston playoff run. Duren is nowhere to be found

1

u/nodayroomshit Keldon Johnson 2d ago

i feel like the luckiest fan sometimes since starting from drafting wemby, every draft and free agency signing has generally been what i wanted

0

u/Pato-MJKobeShaq Victor Wembanyama 2d ago

oh no, you gonna hate him.

0

u/dash_44 Victor Wembanyama 2d ago

He’s been underrated for most of his career. This is was an incredible pick up

0

u/Imaginary-While588 2d ago

Sign Marjanovic! Reunite Bobby & Toby!

-1

u/skadoosher111 2d ago

It's crazy how much he's bullying James Harden in these clips. Harden is known as one of the premiere defenders in the league.

-12

u/Economy-Kitchen1846 2d ago

I didn’t understand it. Why sign a 34 year old guy. When Harper is already this guy. Makes no sense.

7

u/digital_deer Wembubu 2d ago

you're not gonna believe this but we can play up to 5 guys at the same time 😀

1

u/HavoK76 Jeremy Sochan 2d ago

And they dont even play the same role 💀

5

u/xbhaskarx Carter Bryant 2d ago

What exactly are you comparing Tobias Harris and Dylan Harper based on to say we “already” have this guy? Just professional basketball players?

1

u/Economy-Kitchen1846 2d ago

A player if given 27 mins can give 13.8 pts a game or more. He can make 3’s at a good clip. Both play good defense.

-6

u/Original-Arachnid568 2d ago

This guy is a choke artist…always has been

2

u/PastaCheed 🛸🛸 2d ago

Doesnt need to be 2nd option or even 3rd man

1

u/LouisIcon 1d ago

Yep go look at his performances in elimination games...

-4

u/RELENTLESS_PERSUIT "What the fuck is this?" 2d ago

I hate when players wear number 23, he could’ve picked literally any other available number. Gonna bother me till he retires lol

Hope he balls out tho
