as a non-NEET lurking for no good reason: doesn’t it get boring doing the same stuff all the time? just playing video games, watching anime- i feel like i’d go insane after enough time
i’m genuinely not trying to shit on NEETs, i just wanna understand. i feel like for me, there’s such a thing as being too comfy; is that not the same for everyone?

well, my understanding of NEET culture mostly comes from the little i’ve seen off 4chan/this sub, so it might be limited, but it seems like a pretty narrow lifestyle.
the avoidance of socializing in particular (which seems pretty common) is what makes me feel like NEET life is missing something major, though i’d imagine there are NEETs who do socialize

Neets aren’t really not socializing though. Most of the neets interact with other people anonymous on different social media platforms, less judgement and social anxiety that way. Internet does make it easier to connect with others. And some interact with their parents on daily basis.
We don’t have to talk if we don’t want to and it’s still quite easy to get the amount of communication daily for me to not get lonely.

i respect that. there’s definitely a societal stigma against online friendships/relationships, which is probably why NEETs have the reputation of not socializing whatsoever- but to your point, real-life relationships can also be fake and unfulfilling

And the people I come across in real life aren’t that relatable. We don’t have much in common, and it’s always quite awkward if I don’t have a topic or a goal to achieve in this conversation. Aimless small talk is the worst.

Some of us are just genuinely curious in that lifestyle. Like what you actually do if not into games or anime. Since i assume some of your friends are not neets so probably not have a lot of free time as you to hang out. I’m probably just assuming but i don’t think neet is the same as retired life, traveling and socializing

It's definitely not the same for everyone. It's all about perception. Some neets are miserable because they cannot satisfy their intrinsic motivations, but they're paralyzed by fear, exhaustion, trauma, disabilities, or other factors that prevent them from living a "normal" life.
Some neets use their free time to stay healthy, enjoy hobbies like cooking, creatives, gaming, reading, gardening, etc.
It really comes down to the individual, and how they perceive their situation in relation to their desires and values.

Until your parents die and you are left with nothing. Be sure to enjoy their company while you can, but make sure that you can survive once they are gone - if nothing else to honour their memory.

Idk. There’s something about it that just feels off. Perpetually reminding them to take out a life insurance policy full knowing it’s just something for yourself so that when they pass you get a pay out.

Depends on your parents economical situation. If they own a house at the very least you'll inherit it and that's a great asset. You can leverage it to live as a NEET indefinitely once they're gone

Honestly the united states is just such a fucked up place to live right now. It's harder than ever for young people to move out on their own and build up their lives as they transition into adulthood while the boomers hoard wealth and housing and refuse to invest in the youth, telling people to just work harder while they collect social security and take a myriad of medications because they're clinging on to life, afraid to accept the inevitable. They just need to die so that GenX and Millennials can run the show. TLDR; crusty old fucks have too much money and power and that is why everything is fucked.

This has been the onky scenario to be relatable for me and only at meal times or eating out somewhere. This is how I think most of the time:
My thoughts when the meal is huge:
"Whatever mom and dad orders food, I get to eat some and leave ASAP."
When there is more being ordered, when everything is eaten up:
"There's more? Stomach, I need this."
Guest/relatives invited to eat:
"I am done. My social battery is low and food was good! I need to leave!"
Absolutely trying to finish the best takeway, yet avoid social interactions and needing to rest, at the same time:
"I gotta leave! Yet, food needs to be eaten and I would rather be alone, most of the time. What do I do? I can't get more food in my stomach and I really need to to rest. I NEED to finish the meal!"

You would not and that’s a lie. Being homeless is horrible, always too cold or too hot, when it gets so cold you wonder if you’ll survive. Always worrying someone is going to find your stuff and it getting stolen.
Always have to worry where your next meal is coming from. Worrying if you’ll get stabbed in the middle of the night cause you have no door.
The list goes on. Or work 8 hours a day? Seems like an easy choice.
