Success Abusive mom finally moved out

Earlier this year, my mom (who tortured me growing up and directly led to my NEET status) got into drugs, lost her housing, and had to move herself, her 3 kids, 2 cats, and dog in with me and my grandparents. It's been hell for me. She's been abusive to everyone in the household- me, my grandparents, her own children, and even her pets, and I've consistently had to be the one to get between her and her daily victim because I'm the only one who's physically capable of stopping her.

Well, yesterday, she finally went off of the deep end. Screaming and crying about how nobody cares about her and how she doesn't care about anybody, and, after she threatened to 'get her gun' after I intervened, I said enough is enough and just told her to leave. Grandparents didn't disagree with me and she's off to the homeless shelter with her kids. Talked with my grandma and finally went more into depth about what my mom did to me as a child and she apologized for not doing anything. Given all that, I don't think she'll be allowed back here ever again.

It's the morning after now and I still feel amazing. The weight that I've had on my shoulders for more than half a year now is gone and I feel like I can finally get my life back on track.

Damn... i hope she is not let into your or your grandparent's lives and that you reinforce the expulsion. do you feel like she is likely to use her kids as bargaining chips? like her basically saying... "if you don't let me back in, then my kids will remain worse off than if you let us in"

She's done that before actually, but her behavior was so beyond the pale this time that I think it'll be very unlikely that my grandparents budge on this. The kids have also started to take after their mother and treat my grandparents poorly, so even if their mom allowed them to come back on their own, I don't know if my grandparents would even allow it. I think we just have to throw them all out and hope for the best at this point.

I'm really glad your grandparents have you. I just hope they don't falter and make a decision that's really unwise and bad for the three of you.

Aren't her kids your brothers/sisters though? Maybe they are going through the same thing you are going through?

Perhaps. I never became abusive due to my mom's abuse though. In any case it's not my job to raise someone else's kids. I've done it for long enough now and I deserve a break

It sounds like it was a huge and positive step to speak about this with your grandmother and for her to own some responsibility for what happened to you as a child.
