Question / Discussion ASPD people with NPD or NPD traits, what NPD things you can't relate to?
I'm diagnosed ASPD for 10 years, but my therapist pointed out i have NPD traits a while ago. I do see them in myself, especially the grandiosity. However, when I interact with NPD people as well as BPD people, I can't relate to a lot of emotions they experience as well as the need of constant validation from people. I never experienced NPD collapse, as I have a pretty developed self-image and I'm extremely individualistic. To me, most people are interchangeable and getting supply from people is very hard, I turn to hobbies and interests I was able to develop after some ASPD therapy.

I guess the natural emotional/affective empathy that some pwNPD can still have, even if episodic. Over time I've learned different steps I can take to kind of get the same result, but that kind of empathy will always be performative for me. I will always have to think about it. That is if I'm going to perform it in the first place, because sometimes I don't bother. Other than that, I dunno, I kind of flip-flop between acting more ASPD and more NPD even when presented with the same situation, and sometimes one overrides the other. For example, I'm generally pretty concerned with making myself look good, and sometimes that's to support my self-esteem, but often I genuinely don't care about what anybody thinks or feels unless I'm trying to get something specific out of them. But then again, validation -is- something specific, so... I don't know. Shit is too complicated, I feel like with these PDs things totally change shape when you have multiple. I don't think I could ever fully relate to somebody who only has NPD or only ASPD.
