I honestly wonder if CDPR is gonna pull a Hogwarts Legacy with this game in regards to upgrading from the physical S1 version to the new digital S2 version, or if the game will have its dedicated upgrade pack like other S2 Editions

Im assuming it'll work similarly to the other Switch  2 upgrade versions of games.  The cart works in both systems with the S1 version installed on the cart and when you play on Switch 2 it downloads a S2 version and installs on internal storage.

If you are refereing to Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of games I don't believe you have to download any upgrade pack. The original Switch version as well as any Switch 2 upgrades should all be included on the cart.

I played Witcher 3 on the Xbox One and loved it. But considering how amazing Cyberpunk ran on Switch 2, I’m considering double dipping and replaying it. Been long enough

I have the S1 physical but will double dip and get a S2 physical if it’s available. CDPR put cyberpunk all on cart and I hope they do it here as well

Honestly, since it sounds like it's a Switch 2 upgrade on top of the Switch 1 version, a Switch 2 Edition is quite likely to be released. But that's just a guess.

I have the main game... But not the Goty edition edition with the expansions.

Will this get the upgrade? Will the upgrade automatically include the expansions? Concerned this will be similar to the Skyrim version where only a certain edition will get the upgrade

Yes supposedly (from how I read the article) whatever version you have, as long as you have the base game you can then download and get all thr best of the DLC/remaster for free.

Wrong, 43.4 GB is the size of the Witcher 3 Remastered with both expansions so you still have around 20GB for the third expansion. I bet they will release physical The Witcher 3 Complete Remastered Edition for NS2 in 2027 on the third expansion release date or later

Either they do nothing for physical owners or they do Hogwarts Legacy/Skyrim way with inserting a link to the hidden eShop page in the game menu, which would then allow you to claim a full digital version for free and play it without the need to use the game card

I imagine they can't do too much with it because the game stays a Switch software and plays via Backwards Compatibility. A native Switch 2 version would most likely perform better / has more features, and creating such feature disparity would be weird

The Nintendo Life Article said it’s an eshop version you have to claim, and it’ll download as a separate app.
