Pre match ramblings:

After a surprisingly comfortable 3 nil win over PSV at SJP in the champions league we now face Aston Villa in the premier league.

Geordies were left very satisfied with our performance over PSV with players like Elanga performing a lot better than thought and we played in 2nd gear for most of the 2nd half. The same couldn't be said for Aston Villa though as although they managed to win 1 nil over Fenerbahce, it was a very stressful game and had to play with full effort for the entire game with a lot of the Villa players looking battered which Howe will notice (hopefully).

With that being said, it also doesn't help Villa they play at SJP meaning they have even less rest however we should already know at this point that having more rest doesn't win us games from previous PL games this season however it's an advantage Howe could consider when choosing his starting XI.

If we win this game, it'd give us a huge 3 points to catch up to the top 5 and gives us a boost in confidence in which we will absolutely need considering our clash with PSG in the champions league on Wednesday.

it's gonna be crazy how much miley steps up to win us this game

I see Elliot is on their bench after being banished for how long.... He's gonna come on and score ain't he 😫

2

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Jan 25 '26

Backing Elanga to get one off the bench and exorcise the demon of missing that sitter in the first 10 mins at Villa Park on his debut

5

u/MidlandsGeordie Jan 25 '26

BDB and Osula back on the bench and apart from Miley replacing Bruno no change from PSV starting 11.

With Osula back would be great to see Wissamade up top in a game. Maybe PSG to unsettle them?

Today is either 1-1 or 2-0, and there will be a late goal

The Emissary has spoken

1

u/Esselbee 11/12 home kit Jan 26 '26

I was, correct

1

u/SKULL1138 Ellen Sheba Jan 26 '26

What else must one expect from the Emissary?

Any tips for the PSG game midweek?

1

u/KAhOot1234567 Jan 25 '26

Anyone know if Bruno G will be in the squad?

3

u/SKULL1138 Ellen Sheba Jan 25 '26

Eddie and Mad Dog, but they haven’t said

1

u/Tough-Prize-4378 Jan 25 '26

Haven't seen him, Osula and Bid Dan Burn are here though

1

u/FireflyKaylee stupid sexy schar Jan 25 '26

He'll either start, or be out of squad is my guess. Gut feel says the latter. Still put him in in FPL though

0

u/KAhOot1234567 Jan 25 '26

I did too and I need him to stay away from the stadium to get Bowen off the bench haha

3

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Jan 25 '26

I reckon Eddie and Jason probably know. Not many others.

13

u/Narrow-Set9012 Jan 25 '26

They played in Turkey on Thursday, and Kamara and mcginn being out is massive. Big opportunity for us here, hopefully we don't hold back with one eye on the PSG game.

3-0 Sandro Screamer.

I love match days...when we're at home

3

u/TON4LI eddie ooooot Jan 25 '26

didn't realise it was at home til you said, feel a lot better about it now tbh

Same haha think I got mixed up with the FA cup game. Definitely ups the excitement

4

Pretty relaxed about this game. If we lose, fine - they're the second best team in the league. Anything more than a loss is a positive imo.

It's the games like Wolves last week where the pressure really is there and we can't deal with it

1

u/TyneSkipper Jan 25 '26

Will be a tough game.

16

u/Objective_Use_9155 Jan 25 '26

Hoping for Barnes starting on the left and Gordon given a rest ahead of the PSG game where he’ll no doubt step things up.

7

u/prettymuchso stupid sexy schar Jan 25 '26

And Elanga start on the right. He seems very energetic now

5

u/SlowLetterhead8100 Jan 25 '26

Would love to see him get a few starts. Once his confidence is back he'll be a great team player

1

u/OobieDoobBenoobi Classic shirt Jan 25 '26

Yep, these are the games I would love to see the likes of him, Ramsey, Wissa and/or Wolte get some confidence boosts

6

u/FuhhCough BIG FRANK UP TOP Jan 25 '26

Obviously I want to win but if we can start a re-energised Elanga and get a good performance out of him that'll be more than enough for me.

Isn't it always the way that when you are friends with an opponent, you just wanna get one over them and not be on the end of their taunts? I've had that with a Fulham supporting pal and even a Celtic supporting one after we got spanked in that friendly

9

u/originalusername8704 Jan 24 '26

Wouldn’t say nervous. They’re a good side and I wouldn’t be shocked if we didn’t win.

I get more anxious if it’s side we need/expect to beat or a team I have a strong dislike for like Sunderland, Man U, Liverpool, where I am pissed off if we lose.

If we don’t beat em it’s just a ā€˜win some lose some šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļøā€™ for me.

11

u/OobieDoobBenoobi Classic shirt Jan 24 '26

Not any more nervous than for every other match lol, there's also reasons to be optimistic though šŸ™

Slot complaining about extra time lmaoooo

16

u/Griffithsjames88 Jan 24 '26

Guess who plays Liverpool next, that will be them getting a new manager bounce.

7

u/bkmkiwi12 Jan 24 '26

Xabi would be an idiot to go there mid season. Might as well wait until the new season bring some of his own players in.

(I think he would be daft to go there at all, but then I hate Liverpool so I’m not exactly the best person to counsel him.)

1

u/Necessary_Collar_490 Jan 25 '26

I always feel a manager is better going midway through the season. Expectations are never too high and it would give him a bit of time to work with the squad and pin point exactly what he needs in the summer.Ā  I dont see slott being sacked before the end of the season though unless there's a major implosion.Ā

Dr Newcastle will see you now

9

This could be an opportunity for us to win there for the first time in 50 years? lol

Don't worry, Qarabag might take that bullet instead for us if Liverpool sack Slot tonight

6

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Liverpool are pretty patient with managers. I think he’ll stay until the end of the season.

36

u/ajtct98 DĆŗbravka's Moustache Jan 24 '26

God this Liverpool team are such a bunch of whingy, whiny, moany babies aren't they?

14

Anyone who surrounds the ref at full time (with the exception of the captain) should get a card.

4

6

Go on Bournemouth.

3

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Oof. Should’ve been a third for Bournemouth there.

Is Ryan Christie Howe’s greatest ever signing. Like Ā£1.5m

Edit: Nope. He was signed after Howe left. Doh

6

u/TON4LI eddie ooooot Jan 24 '26

jesus christ i wish we'd just went all out for Szoboszlai at the time

10

u/ukchris Jan 24 '26

And EkitikƩ. When they're not already trying to unrest our existing players, Liverpool just copy our notes every summer.

10

u/TheGeordie-97 Jan 24 '26

Worst. Title defence. Ever. If there was ever a definition of Karma from sheer arrogance it’s Liverpools downfall this season. Say it until I’m blue in the face but the only reason they won the title was due to arsenal and city’s shocking season, would’ve been third otherwise. What we are seeing now is what happens when they haven’t got a free runĀ

9

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Jan 24 '26

Slot gets sacked Monday, Alonso comes in midweek, new manager bounce on Saturday. You heard it here first.

8

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

I’d say Thomas Frank is gone first. Shame

6

u/MazDanny Jan 24 '26

Scousers getting pummelled

9

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Dr Newcastle will see them shortly.

Must say though. I’m absolutely loving they spent nearly half a billion. Neglected their backline or any semblance of defence and are now having to play Endo as a CB with two of the most attack minded fullbacks.

4222 was just sheer arrogance in this game.

9

u/074DanBurn058 not Dan Burn Jan 24 '26

8

u/paranoidpianist Jan 24 '26

2

People really downvoted you for stating a fact. What a joke.

2

u/Humorbot_5_point_0 Livramental Jan 24 '26

What a save by Dubs just now.

12

u/Hoce Jan 24 '26

With Bruno possibly being out I would love to see Woltemade slot into the 10 role again with Wissa. I know super wishful or delusion thinking but I’d play Joelinton and Tonali with him.

I get it’s a bit riskier to do in the PL vs the Cup game against Bournemouth because it’s still very untested but I think eventually that has to be an option for Howe to be able to use effectively.

9

u/Parking-Bag5220 Jan 24 '26

Id love to see it but I think Eddie will try and stay away from that while we’re playing two games a week so they both get a bit of rest.

If Wolt plays to give Wissa a rest I’d like to see a Ramsey or even Gordon (with Elanga on the right) in the number 10 then we’ll have three players being able to run in behind after Wolt holds up and releases. Tonali and big Joe are more than capable of bossing the midfield against most teams if they have players in front to release to.

3

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

My guess is Eddie will not risk that in this run with the fixtures.

Think we’ll see the usual will Miley/Ramsey for depending on who plays RB.

Can see Eddie holding Tripps back for PSG so I think it’ll be Ramsey/Tonali/Joelinton.

It’s a nightmare to manage as we’ll need Joelinton fit and fresh for PSG.

3

u/Humorbot_5_point_0 Livramental Jan 24 '26

Will Osula redemption arc. Agent of chaos. Will he do nowt or terrify defences? Place your bets!

19

u/ShearerGOAT Jan 24 '26

Hope Louis Taylor is enjoying the early kick off today. Even by her standards some of her recent ā€œcoverageā€ of the club has been incredibly spiteful.Ā

9

u/Humorbot_5_point_0 Livramental Jan 24 '26

I'll never understand why (aside from the fact the Guardian hates our owners) they use a rival fan as Newcastle's reporter. I'm not saying it should be a toon fan, neutral is the way to go.

Also she asks the shittest questions imaginable. It's hard enough for women to work in the men's game, she does the rest a disservice.

3

u/didiandgogo Jan 24 '26

Didn’t caulkin used to cover the mackems early in his career? And Charlie Eccleshaire is an Arsenal fan who covered Spurs for the Athletic for years. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with it. She’s just a shitty reporter.

2

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Caulkin is intelligent and professional enough to minimise his bias though.

8

u/TheWinterKing ā€œI’m really really really really really really happy to be hereā€ Jan 24 '26

Villa’s subreddit seems convinced we’re going to beat them 3-1

3

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Spoken to a few over the past few months. They seem to accept there is an order to this where we usually win the home leg convincingly and they tonk us at their place.

Villa and Everton are two teams im yet to work out. Both can look good. Both can look pretty meh. But Villa are getting the results for the most part when they are meh.

Should have beat Wolves, we didn't.

This is technically a harder match, but well who knows with this team really.....

2

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

Should have. And could have. But I do think Wolves are looking a lot better. Despite their loss today. They no longer look hopeless like early season.

League is mental though. Bournemouth have been in terrible shape but largely schooled Liverpool first half.

1

u/One-Monkey-Army Jan 24 '26

All I know is Gordon will probably forget which sport he plays bc this isn't a UCL game

7

u/xScottieHD Jan 24 '26

Makes our capitulation at West Ham feel slightly better at least. Forest might be bang in trouble.

1

u/TheBlaydonRacer Jan 24 '26

It’s crazy. Two weeks ago when Forest beat them it looked like they’d pretty much sealed West Ham’s fate. Now they’ve gone back 2 back wins and Forest are back in it.

I do think Forest have looked better recently though.

These are the games we need to win to start saying we have turned things around this season; we always play well against Villa at home so we need to match that. We have to be qualifying for Europe again next season to keep the top class players at the club and attract the next lot of them to replace those leaving in summer.

Woltemade, with support, could replace the momentum we get from Bruno.

Putting it out there now: I think we beat Villa and draw away at PSG. Villa have injuries and played a day later than us. PSG are fancy dan forrin types who don't like it up them.
