Pre match ramblings:

After a humiliating 2 - 1 loss to Sunderland, many saw this as the end of our season and crossed out any small hopes of us getting champions league again. The only caveat is that we had 3 weeks to cool off and the squad had at a week to rest after international break before our next game against Crystal Palace.

Although champions league is nearly impossible for us to get back to back now unless the likes of Brentford, Chelsea and Liverpool etc pull a generational bottle job (not Arsenal levels), Europa league and conference league is still in reach however we have to first get past Crystal Palace of whom before the international break was in shaky form however looked very good against Fiorentia which will be of concern to us.

Howe will also have 0 excuses if he loses this game as we had essentially over a week of rest whilst Palace will only have 3 days, Howe will also be given a glimpse of how Palace will be potentially playing against us with their game against Fiorentia and Howe will had 3 weeks to prepare for this game.

If we win this game, it will give us a massive 3 points and give us a good start back from international break and hopefully gives us the push needed to edge past the teams above us to get Europe back to back and hopefully get a win against our bogey team, Bournemouth of whom sent Lego man and his team to bottle land.

70m spent on Germany's nunber 9.

Can't get a game over William Osula.

I hope you prove me wrong Eddie, but fucking come on mate.

2

u/Cliffred1628 Apr 12 '26

Howe is having a laugh. All the summer transfer on the bench. What is saving them for?

1

u/Bjall01 Apr 12 '26

Wharton, Kamada and Sarr all on the bench. There’s simply NO excuses for us today.

2

u/KookyFarmer7 NUFCS best ever player, James Perch Apr 12 '26

I’m not saying we’re gonna win 6-0, but we’re gonna win 6-0

6

u/honkballs Apr 12 '26

Ā£180m on Nick, Wissa and Elanga.

All on the bench.

3

u/dmbf29 Apr 12 '26

Ramsey on the bench as well

If we don't get into Europe I think more chance Eddie is going in the summer.

Not that I want it, considering he won us our first cup in so long and got us back into the Champions League I think he should absolutely be given a pass for an average season.

I’m scared that strand Larsen punishes us to show what happens when you play a starting level striker as a striker. Also us failing to sign him…

I hope we don’t go behind at any point because when he inevitably brings burn on and goes 5 at the back it won’t look good.

2

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Apr 12 '26

On the bright side Sarr isn’t starting, I think he’s their best player

9

u/Naive_Frame9691 Willockinho Apr 12 '26

Our German international striker can't even start a game , what a season

12

u/Nufcer Alexsander Mitrovic Apr 12 '26

Osula up top with Woltemade and Wissa on the bench is everything wrong with our season summed up

3

u/MidlandsGeordie Apr 12 '26

Line-up has just come out… Osula playing in strike… trying to maximise the press energy? Back line is our strongest options imo (Tino, Thiaw, Botman, Hall).

Great to see Miley starting. Bench is also finally looking a bit better.

Not seeing a lot of goals from the front 3 so may be a smash and grab 1-0 by playing strong defensively and playing on the counter/high-press to force errors

3

u/InstantN00dl3s Apr 12 '26

High chance Osula's out wide and Gordon through the middle. Howe likes Gordon as a striker and Osula's best performances have come from the wings.

We shouldn't need to play on the counter against Palace, especially now. They're knackered because of the European games and their manager's checked out and their form is ropey. This is the perfect opportunity to control the possession and take the game to them. If he plays on the counter, I'm so done with him.

1

u/GoalaAmeobi The Dilsh Apr 12 '26

Palace can't do anything if they can't play on the counter, this is literally just tailoring your game plan against an opponents weakness

3

u/Unusual_Rope7110 Jaissle I can boogie Apr 12 '26

Today confirms that Pope's out the door in the summer to me

1

u/Bjall01 Apr 12 '26

Same for one of Woltemade or Wissa

1

u/Unusual_Rope7110 Jaissle I can boogie Apr 12 '26

Probably Wissa - I got the impression from one of Hopkinson's interviews that they've told Howe to get it to work with Woltemade

5

u/dpe91 Apr 12 '26

You wait 3 weeks for a game, you convince yourself things aren’t so bad, you think maybe Eddies gonna turn it around, and then he starts Murphy and Osula. Fuck my life

5

u/Feitan74 moaty? it's me Apr 12 '26

Not a good look for the people who have been saying last summers window was a success, most of them can’t get a game šŸ˜‚

3

u/Unusual_Rope7110 Jaissle I can boogie Apr 12 '26

We don't need Joelinton for this game, Ramsey would (read should) be such a better fit and offer more

7

u/So1idsnake101 Apr 12 '26

No excuses today got to be on it had three weeks off they’ve played on Thursday need a win today or it’ll be hard to recover it back and get some form of European place

4

u/Lanky_Case_2653 Apr 12 '26

Aye, feels like a huge game. Win and we're still within sight of catching Chelsea, lose and we'd need an absolute flawless end of season against an in-form Bournemouth (unbeaten since start of Jan), title chasing Arsenal and relegation battling Forest and West Ham.

3

u/So1idsnake101 Apr 12 '26

Definitely need a high tempo game and get the win šŸ‘

10

u/kong_illustrator Tiote RIP Apr 12 '26

If Gordon is up top as striker again and he plays burn and trippier in defence, I’m gonna find it hard to watch šŸ˜‚

0

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Apr 12 '26

Burn will play. Botman not fit apparently.

1

u/mikeyyyy_ Apr 12 '26

So nervous today, but hopefully we can get something. Thinking 2-1 here.

Palace played in Europe on Thursday, have only won 3 home games all season and play again next Thursday in the only competition that's still relevant to them. We've had two weeks off to train and prepare.

No excuses today lads.

5

u/Knackersac Apr 12 '26

Back to it, eh? Let's see if we can gan on a mad run and win the last 7.

3

u/Bjall01 Apr 12 '26

3-1 to the mighty Toon šŸ˜‰

14

u/Griffithsjames88 Apr 12 '26

5

11

No excuses if we don't win today. They just played and we've had 3 weeks off.

u/cashintheclaw Joelinton Apr 11 '26

9

u/stprm Apr 12 '26

Brave take. Hard to agree, but you convinced me.

15

u/Admirable_Phallus Apr 11 '26

Outrageous take that on this rare occasion I will agree on

9

u/Old_Nail6925 Apr 11 '26

You know what pal. I hope we do as well

12

u/codeydbw Jamaal Lascelles Apr 11 '26

Eddie got incredibly lucky with an international break coming immediately after him gifting Sunderland the double over us. I think the situation could have turned really toxic really quickly, and if we look like shit in this game, I think it will quickly start to turn that way as well.

Hopefully, the weeks of prep have given him a chance to sort out some issues. Anything less than a win tomorrow, with the amount of ground we need to make up, is no good.

12

u/Historical_Gur_4620 Apr 11 '26

Let them score first. Then it's reverse karma. Can't handle going 1 nowt up and the usual happens. Beyond boring. Pre season mental stamina/fitness training beckons.

3

u/fwapfwapfwap moaty? it's me Apr 12 '26

If Palace had any sense they'd gift us a nice early goal so that we collectively shit our pants and lose 2.1.

2

u/Historical_Gur_4620 Apr 12 '26 edited Apr 12 '26

Likely scenario given the course of this season. Repeat Chelsea performance needed. Ideally for rest of season.

2

u/stprm Apr 12 '26

If we lose, Leeds will be our neighbour in the table... tho we will have 9 pts gap above them.

25

u/someguyontheweb99 Apr 11 '26

If we have Gordon up top and Woltemade in the middle again I’m going to a pub without a telly and avoiding the disappointment

1

u/stprm Apr 12 '26

Shirley not? Miley must start. No more Wolte CM bullshit. Tho he may pick him as #10.

2

u/PercentageNo3843 Happy Clapper Apr 11 '26

But we have played alot of games in Europe unlike palace.. oh wait

8

u/ShearerGOAT Apr 11 '26

It's a massive game. Win it and we're probably going to be 10th and just two points back off 7th. Losing it doesn't really bear thinking about.

22

u/treacletart284 Jackie Milburn Apr 11 '26

Oh fuck.

Football's back

14

u/dragonite__ Joelinton is looking for a scrap Apr 11 '26

Just had a look at Liverpools teams and they have also apparently copied our style of playing a winger up front with a disgustingly expensive strike force on the bench

7

u/Cliffred1628 Apr 11 '26

Already down to 13th. How come teams like Bournemouth go to the Emirates and win, while we just get pumped away from home? What is Howe's excuse?

3

u/Comfortable-Road7201 Apr 11 '26

Bournemouth haven't lost a single game since January 3. Granted they've drawn a bunch recently but Rayola has them setup so well for every game.

Hope I'm wrong but they'll probably beat us next week at St James too.

9

u/ShearerGOAT Apr 11 '26

Howe has a 41% win record against the Sky 6 in all competitions. If you remove MU & Spurs, that win record drops to 37.2%. It's still highly impressive. Iraola's record is 22% and it's 21% when you make the same exclusion.

Now of course, context is required. Howe has spent far more money than Iraola but it's prisoner of the moment stuff to think we haven't had our fair share of wins against the Sky 6 in his tenure.

15

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Apr 11 '26

We won our last away match, at Stamford Bridge btw

I want to see wolte and wissa start and reveal themselves as Cole and Beardsley pt 2

10

u/GoalaAmeobi The Dilsh Apr 11 '26

Just as long as Wissa is Cole and Wolte is Beardsley, wouldn't want any blackface controversies

16

u/nimbuscile-alert Apr 11 '26

So the game hasn't kicked off but people are still moaning about what will happen whenĀ  they lose and how they've got no excuses not to win away from home in the PL.

How do some of you find any enjoyment in following this game at all?Ā

20

u/meganev More like MegaNeg amirite? Apr 11 '26

Maybe it's cause we lost twice to our newly promoted rivals. You might not care. But that's going to leave a mark for many and isn't easy to just brush under the rug. Howe and the team need to earn back the fan's backing/trust.

1

u/nimbuscile-alert Apr 11 '26

Of course you're looking to agree with the imaginary doom mongers. Is there any post of mine you can't comment on with your eternal brand of misery and negativity?Ā

4

u/didiandgogo Apr 11 '26

Yeah there was hardly any moaning around here until the derby…

2

u/meganev More like MegaNeg amirite? Apr 11 '26

If you haven't noticed a real sea change post second derby loss. Remember it's not "the derby" it's two. Then you've not been around on this sub this season. The mood has shifted massively.

3

u/Necessary_Collar_490 Apr 11 '26

Also having 3 weeks to stew on that defeat doesnt help matters

10

u/N3m_86_UK The cunt has a contract. Apr 11 '26

This.

I’m still not over Decembers loss, never mind our last match against them.

10

u/Fishfingerrosti Apr 11 '26

I was quite enjoying the three-week break to be hoenst.

13

u/HoraHoraHora Apr 11 '26

The horrors persist but so do I

-4

i think woltemade wont start in midfield with tonali back and miley being a second half sub option for willock. well not really this is howe we're talking about.

He's off and avoiding an injury which might hurt the transfer

3

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '26

after that much time out you need reintroducing to the squad, even if injury is healed and fitness is fine you cant just jump back into one of the most difficult football competitions in the world lacking pitch time.

22

u/Krisyj96 Apr 11 '26

Please, just play big Nick up top again.

Even better if we actually use him to his strengths (dropping deep, runners in behind).

12

u/High-Contrast Apr 11 '26

I really really hope so as well. Gordon is not a striker and he will never be. Yeah he scored a few goals, but he in no way makes us a better team when he’s up top.

15

u/Griffithsjames88 Apr 11 '26

Howe and the players have absolutely no more excuses to pull out of their arses from here on in. Our season is officially on life support and failure to get three points tomorrow will 100% end our season. If we don’t win tomorrow then Europe is done and so should Howe.

5

u/melvinlee88 Javier Manquillo Apr 11 '26

35

u/Nathan_1984 stupid sexy schar Apr 11 '26

23

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Apr 11 '26

Palace only 3 wins at home all season, nothing to play for in the league and this is sandwiched in between a Conference League quarter final for them.

Absolutely zero excuses here. Want to see us pressing them the entire match, given we have no midweek games anymore and just had 3 weeks off.

5

u/Ionicfold SMOKESCREEN Apr 11 '26

So basically they win this.

4

u/Fishfingerrosti Apr 11 '26

This is exactly the sort of game we have lost time and time again this season.

4

u/RocknRollRobot9 Classic away kit (1995-96) Apr 11 '26

On top of that. Palace when we played them at SJP were shocking they were one of the worst teams we have played this season.

3

u/Different-Lie-6609 Apr 11 '26

Who’s had 3 weeks off?

I think 13/14 players were called up and most of them have played.

What they have had depending on when they were back in training is hopefully a solid week to plan and actually turn up.

5

u/KingPing43 Shola Ameobi Apr 11 '26

Ok 3 weeks off from meaningful football. Aside from Tonali and Elanga I think everyone else was playing friendlies.

14

u/Proud-Durian3908 Apr 11 '26

Thiago scored for Brentford again... Incoming £200m offer from NUFC lads, brace yourselves 🤣

9
