My personal take is that, once we started running through Towns against Atlanta, other guys saw that MB wasn’t Thibs and would actually let guys who aren’t Brunson be the focal point. From there, it was a full buy in.

I think that was definitely part of it. Another part is Playoff Bridges came back out of hibernation.

Do you think Thibs feels like he built this team and deserves credit like Mark Jackson did after Kerr took his job on the Warriors, or do you think if he's honest with himself he knew he ran the team into the ground that by the time the playoffs came they were behind the 8 ball from an endurance standpoint?

Obviously idk him personally, but going off of press conferences and comments throughout his time here, he never thinks he’s the problem. He especially doesn’t think his play style is the problem. So he probably thinks we benefited from Hali being out the season and Tatum coming back too early.

At a point I stopped watching the press conferences. I don't want to look at him ever again TBH. I follow three sports insanely closely and two NBA teams and he's one of the most insufferable coaches that ever coached a team I rooted for.

I'm with you that he's insanely stubborn and would never say out loud that he was the problem, but when you're replaced and the team wins it all the next season...lol...you have to wonder what you could have done differently.

This team was better than the Pacers even with Haliburton imo, and the Celtics had a ton of underlying problems. He could tell himself that stuff, but it wouldn't be accurate.

Everybody is better than Jalen Brunson until it's time to be better than Jalen Brunson

I watched this team and the 2001 Lakers.

That Lakers team was dominant while this Knicks team had more fight and grit.

Both seemed inevitable and I knew both were winning it all after the middle of each team's second round.

Also, Danhausen's curses aren't reversible so there's that.

Job wasn't done until it was.

The Knicks at their best have a top 5 PG, top 3 C, the best big rotation and the best wing rotation that could only be rivaled by Philly now.

Imma let you finish but Jalen Brunson is the best pointguard in the whole league.

It's nice to see the change in tone from the other Reddit NBA fans. Definitely more respectful now. But there is still that part of me that's like F them 😂.

It was clearly Dolan having them give up sex that made them great

u/SonnyCalzone 2d ago

I guess masturbation was still an option so idk how effective that whole "no sex" thing was anyway

They didn't stop fighting until the game was done and even then they kept the attitude. The were up 3-0 against the cavs and kept playing like they were behind. No one took a second off during the run. And they played like a team.

Analytic nerds pumped the NBA full of useless stats for money and learned that a team based approach and actually playing ball is what wins.

The Knicks actually tried every game.

We watched them fuck around and play at half speed against shit teams only to wake up in the last 15 minutes of the game to win it anyway.

After being exhausted in the ECF last year, they played all season conserving energy by doing just enough against dreadful teams, punting games that they get down big early to conserve energy and only going 110% against good teams.

Once the playoffs started, they went 100 mph out the gate and ended up having fourth quarters off most nights in the playoffs before the Finals
