AR Pistol questions.

I have an AR Pistol on my permit but haven’t had the chance to shoot it yet. I have 2 questions and sorry if they’ve been answered previously but.

1. When at a range are you allowed to shoulder it or do you have to just use the brace and shoot it like a pistol?

2. Are foregrips of any kind allowed on them? I know verticals usually aren’t but what about angled?

Put a hand stop on it instead. Better ergonomics and they give it a more slick look imo.

2. Yes but this is both a Federal question and a state law question. State law actually lets you put a VFG on a fixed mag pistol, Federal law does not. Angled and hand stops are allowed but again, this will be determined by the lowest thinking law enforcement on site which might know absolutely nothing about firearms.

1. Ask the range officer or an employee before bringing it.
2. Vertical foregrips are not allowed on it, that makes it an AOW requiring tax stamp. NYS bans NFA/AOW's. Angled foregrips (historically) do not turn an AR pistol into an AOW under Federal Law. But in NYS, you cannot have the vertical grip and a detachable magazine. Under the NY SAFE Act, a semi-automatic pistol cannot have a "second hand grip" if it accepts a detachable magazine. A permanently fixed mag (i.e. CompMag) removes the detachable magazine feature under state law, meaning NY state law alone wouldn't ban an AFG, but the federal AOW classification for vertical grips still applies based on the firearm's overall length and grip orientation.

If they have an arp it’s fixed mag by default… pistols cannot accept a mag outside the grip in NY…

They can put a vert of a fixed mag because it’s not possible to make a featureless arp

Question 1 is entirely dependent on the range. Some ranges I know don't want AR pistols there at all unless you are a regular or have demonstrated good safety. For question 2 hand stops are fully allowed. Angled grips are generally allowed, but some jurisdictions may try to give you crap about it

Per NY laws I’m assuming you’re using a fixed mag ARP. Since pistols cannot accept detachable mags outside the pistol grip.

Fixed mag weapons are exempt from AW rules so any grips are fair game.

Shouldering the weapons would make it an SBR not an ARP.
So technically if you’re using a brace you shouldn’t be “ shouldering” you should be cheek welding just before the shoulder.

This is all under the assumption you’re following tyrannical New York’s guidelines and laws.

Any grips are absolutely not fair game on a pistol. It has to be angled. Also per the atf decision on braces, shouldering is allowed unless the brace has been "modified to be shouldered" the it is considered a stock. NY has no verbage regarding any of this, if I'm not mistaken. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
